THE VOLGADACHA HOUSE IS LOCATED IN A BUCOLIC RUSSIAN VILLAGE ON THE UPPER REACHES OF VOLGA RIVER. DACHA, IN RUSSIA, IS A COUNTRY HOUSE OR A COTTAGE USED AS A VACATION RETREAT.
LA CASA VOLGADACHA SE ENCUENTRA EN UN BUCÓLICO PUEBLO RUSO EN LA PARTE ALTA DEL RÍO VOLGA. DACHA, EN RUSIA, SE REFIERE A UNA CASA DE CAMPO O UNA CASA USADA COMO UN RETIRO VACACIONAL.
Seen from the windows is a 17-century orthodox church cathedral and glimpses of waterfront of Volga. Prior to construction the 3.000 sqm plot was thickset by weeds namely the cow parsnip reaching 3 metres high. A family with two kids wanted a quiet retreat from the everyday busy life in the suburbs of Moscow.The house where you spend most of the time inevitably gets cluttered so the idea for VolgaDacha was to have a clean and minimal space, almost to the point of austerity. The house has a living room and an open kitchen on the first floor and separated master bedroom and kids sleeping places on the loft.The bathroom has a glass door leading to the deck with an outdoor shower.A vast terrace made of Siberian larch and surrounding the house can be used to relax with a good book or an iPad.Wooden shutters close floors to ceiling glasssliding doors when owners are not at the VolgaDacha. Due to good insulation heated floors can keep the house warm and a small wood stove in the winter. The concrete floors are keeping it cool during the hot summer months. The courtyard formed by a house and a shed was levelled by sand, than covered with geotextiles and thick layer of gravel to provide for a maintenance free garden.
La visión desde los ventanales presenta una catedral ortodoxa del siglo XVII y atisba la zona ribereña del Volga. Antes de la construcción, los 3.000m2 de la parcela exhibían malezas que llegaban a los tres metros de altura. Una familia con dos niños quería un retiro tranquilo, lejos de la ajetreada vida cotidiana en los suburbios de Moscú. La casa donde uno pasa la mayor parte del tiempo acaba inevitablemente abarrotada, por lo que la idea principal de VolgaDacha era tener un espacio limpio y mínimo, lo más cercano posible a la austeridad. La casa presenta un salón-estar y una cocina en el primer piso, y un dormitorio principal y las habitaciones de los niños quedan en la planta superior. El baño tiene una puerta de vidrio que da a la cubierta, con una ducha al aire libre. Una gran terraza de alerce de Siberia, y que rodea la casa, puede utilizarse para relajarse con un buen libro o un iPad. Unas persianas de madera cierran desde el suelo hasta el techo ambas plantas, ocultando las puertas corredizas de vidrio cuando los propietarios no están en el VolgaDacha. Debido al buen aislamiento, los suelos radiantes mantienen la casa caliente, con la inestimable ayuda de una pequeña estufa de madera en el invierno. Los pavimentos de hormigón consiguen mantenerlo fresco durante los calurosos meses de verano. El patio, formado por una casa y un cobertizo, fue nivelado con arena, que cubre con geotextiles y una gruesa capa de grava un jardín libre de mantenimiento.

THE PLOT IS SHAPED LIKE THE TRUNK OF A LONG PYRAMID IN PLAN, IT IS ALMOST FLAN AND IT MEASURES 2 HA. IT IS DIVIDED IN TWO PARTS, ONE, ON THE NORTH SIDE, COVERED BY A VINEYARD, AND THE OTHER, ON THE LOWER SOUTH SIDE, WHERE THERE ARE BOTH DECIDUOUS (CHESTNUTS,WALNUTS) AND EVERGREEN TREES (PINES AND HOLM OAKS).
LA FINCA TIENE UNA FORMA TRAPEZOIDAL, PRÁCTICAMENTE PLANA Y CON UNA EXTENSIÓN DE 2 HA. SE DIVIDE EN DOS PARTES, UNA, EN LA ZONA NORTE, DONDE SE DISPONE UN VIÑEDO Y LA OTRA, EN LA PARTE BAJA, SUR, EN LA QUE HAY UNA ZONA DE ÁRBOLES, DE HOJA CADUCA, (CASTAÑOS, NOGALES, ETC.) COMO DE HOJA PERENNE (PINOS Y ENCINAS).
The dwelling is placed in the centre of the plot, dividing it in two like a diaphragm. It is a pure concrete box opened in the middle, where the living is placed, by two large French doors (9 x 2,5 m) in both North and South faces, which allow a complete transparency that visually connects the vineyard with the trees. The house is conceived attending sustainable concepts such as: green flat roof (planted with low water consumption plants), insulated sliding shutters and awnings (that open or close depending on weather conditions), crossed ventilation (openings in the concrete allow for ventilation in both North-South and East- West directions) and economic construction (the architect has been also the home builder, has sought at all time, simple construction and local solutions. The final price has been from 60.000 €). Two interior elements, bathrooms, installations and kitchen, divide the house in a living room at the centre and two bedrooms, one on each end. The openings in the concrete volume form two visual axis shaped like a cross, one transversal across the living and another longitudinal that links the bedrooms. At the same time, the pool area, intersected with the volume of the house, enhances the continuity between the inside and the outside.
La vivienda se dispone en el centro de la finca, dividiéndola en las dos partes antes mencionadas, a modo de diafragma. Se trata de un paralelepípedo puro de hormigón, roto en su parte central, donde se sitúa el salón-comedor, por dos cristaleras de 9x2,5m en las caras norte-sur, de esta manera se produce una transparencia visual, que conecta la zona de viñedo con la del arbolado. La vivienda se concibe desde el inicio, con criterios de sostenibilidad, los más destacados, son los siguientes: cubierta vegetal (compuesta por plantas crasas, de bajo consumo de agua), contraventanas correderas aislantes y toldos solares (se abren o cierran en función de la época del año y de la situación del sol), ventilación cruzada (las aperturas en el volumen de hormigón provocan dos líneas de ventilación, una, norte-sur y la otra este-oeste) y construcción económica (el arquitecto ha sido también el constructor de la vivienda, se ha buscado en todo momento, soluciones constructivas simples y locales, el precio final de la misma ha sido de 60.000 €). Dos piezas interiores, baños, instalaciones y cocinas, distribuyen el espacio interior en una zona central de salón-comedor y dos dormitorios en los laterales. Las aperturas del volumen de hormigón, producen dos ejes visuales en forma de cruz, uno transversal, a través del salón, y el otro, longitudinal, une los dos dormitorios. Por otro lado, la zona de la piscina se macla con el volumen de la vivienda, en la zona central acristalada, produciendo un efecto de continuidad exterior-interior.
