SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES BACHELOR’S DEGREES IN HUMAN SCIENCES REQUIRED FOR BA AND BAS Total number of hours required (not including prerequisites) in major: 36 semester hours of social behavioral science with 18 advanced hours (sociology, psychology, anthropology, organizational leadership, criminal justice, political science, economics, education and social welfare). Required courses (not including prerequisites) in the major: One of the following: • Sociological Statistics • Statistics One of the following: • Qualitative Sociological Research Methods • Quantitative Sociological Research Methods • Psychological Research Methods Concentrations: • Concentrations of 9 hours in 3 social behavioral science disciplines (total 27 hours) Human Sciences is an interdisciplinary degree that allows students to combine a range of classes in the social and behavioral sciences to create (in conjunction with an adviser) a degree tailored to their educational and career goals. Students can combine a passionate interest in psychology and sociology with classes in education, and criminal justice and come away with an excellent background to pursue graduate or professional studies, or to enhance their career. The program, offered through OLLU’s School of Professional Studies, emphasizes critical thinking, writing and analytical skills. It prepares students to use their knowledge in a professional and practical way that enables them to make ethical and positive contributions to the community and work place. The faculty hold advanced and terminal degrees from institutions throughout the United States. Faculty are dedicated to their students and to the educational mission of Our Lady of the Lake University. THE UNIVERSITY Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), founded in 1895 by the Congregation of Divine Providence, is a coeducational liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students.
