Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING Practice nursing with the guidance of a registered nurse or physician in a variety of healthcare settings. NURSING ASSISTANT Provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff. Perform duties such as feed, bathe, dress, groom, or move patients, or change linens. May transfer or transport patients. Includes nursing care attendants and nursing aides. MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT Administrative duties include a wide variety of tasks such as: updating and filing patient medical records, coding and filling out insurance forms, and scheduling appointments. RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST Take x-rays or administer nonradioactive materials into patient's blood stream for diagnostic purposes. Additional certification in areas such as MRI, Mammography and Computed Tomography may increase job responsibilities and salary. RESPIRATORY THERAPIST Duties may include: management of Mechanical Ventilators, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, obtaining and analyzing Arterial Blood Gases and acting as members of resuscitation team for patients who are experiencing pulmonary and/or cardiac distress or failure. PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT Assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures. Document the progress of treatment and modify specific treatments within the scope of treatment plans established by a physical therapist. EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN Assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, and extricate trapped individuals. Transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities. PHLEBOTOMIST Draw and analyze blood for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Perform a series of complex chemical, biological, microscopic and bacteriological tests on patients and provide an appropriate diagnosis. PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN Assist doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing direct patient care in a variety of healthcare environments. Duties may include: basic patient care including bathing, feeding, toileting and ambulating patients, obtaining EKG readings and performing phlebotomy procedures. programs Nursing The Nursing program equips you for todayâ€™s careers in healthcare. The following programs are available: l Associate Degree in Nursing (Registered Nurse) l Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Diploma l LPN to Associate Degree in Nursing (Registered Nurse) l Associate Degree in Nursing to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Physical Therapist Assistant The Physical Therapist Assistant program equips you to perform selected physical therapy interventions under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist. You will get classroom instruction, hands-on practice in simulated laboratory activities, and live experiences on real patients at clinical education facilities. Upon graduation, you will be able to work in a variety of settings to assist individuals who have lost function so they can live more active lifestyles. Effective April 30, 2014, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College's Physical Therapist Assistant Program has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone: 703.706.3245; email: firstname.lastname@example.org). Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates that the program may matriculate students in technical/professional courses and that the program is progressing toward accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation. Radiology In the Radiologic Technology (RAD) program, you will receive a technological education consisting of classroom and clinical experience. You will assist the radiologist in examining patients for disease or injuries by using radiographic equipment. With additional education, RAD can be a stepping stone for prosperous careers in the related allied health professions, such as Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Education, Management, Special Procedures, Computed Tomography, Mammography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The following programs are available: l Associate in Applied Science - Major in Radiologic Technology l Certificates in Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Mammography. Respiratory Care The Respiratory Care program provides the advanced training needed to demonstrate strong analytical and technical skills in a variety of healthcare settings. Career opportunities may include: Adult and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (ICUs and NICUs), general floor therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, sleep labs and transport teams. The following program is available: l Associate in Applied Science - Major in Respiratory Care Medical Assisting The Medical Assisting program will prepare you for a career that requires knowledge of basic office, patient care and laboratory skills in medical offices, clinics, and hospitals. Medical assistants are multi-skilled allied health professionals specifically trained to work in physician's offices, clinics, and group practices, performing administrative and clinical procedures. Wellbalanced instruction in business skills and medical procedures enables you to assist the physician in routine practice. The following program is available: l Diploma in Applied Science - Major in Medical Assisting certificates l Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) l Computed Tomography* l Emergency Medical Technician l Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)* l Mammography* l Patient Care Technician (Electrocardiography/Cardiac Monitoring (ECG), CNA and Phlebotomy) l Pre-Dental Hygiene l Pre-Health Information Management l Pre-Occupational Therapy Assistant *Requires completion of Associate in Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology and licensure as a Registered Radiologic Technologist. HIP session Admission requirements to any of the Nursing and Health Science programs may be obtained by attending a Health Information Program (HIP) session. All applicants are required to attend either a face-to-face or online session. A listing of scheduled sessions can be obtained from the Admissions Office or online at www.octech.edu. OCtech graduates consistently score above state and national averages on licensure exams. Earn your BSN online and $ave Money! After you earn your Associate Degree in Nursing, you can continue your education online with USC Upstate to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The Associate Degree and general education courses required for the BSN degree can be completed at OCtech, with some of the courses even available online. The BSN degree can then be obtained with an additional year of online nursing study through our partnership with USC Upstate. If you want to further your career and make more money, this is the program for you! By pursuing your BSN degree at OCtech, you will earn your degree at a fraction of what it would cost at a four-year university. University Transfer If you desire to continue studies at a four-year university, the programs available at OCtech will help make your first two years of college more affordable. With our University Transfer Program, we have created specialized transfer pathways to four-year universities for you. Courses offered from the list of 86 transferrable courses will transfer to any South Carolina public college or university and to most private colleges.
