Taking Classes at ALCO Eligibility All persons age 16 or older are eligible to attend training classes at ALCO. Individual courses or programs may have prerequisites.

Registration and Payment All registration and tuition fees must be paid at the time of registration. You may register for ALCO programs and classes in one of the following ways:  In-person at the Kissimmee or Poinciana locations (cash, check, or, Visa/MasterCard/Discover cards are accepted). 

Online registration and payment is available for ed2go online classes and traffic school classes only (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express are accepted).

Course Cancellation 

Register early! Classes that do not have the sufficient enrollment one week before the class begins are subject to cancellation. ALCO reserves the right to change dates and times of classes, or cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment or a complication beyond our control. In these circumstances, a full refund will be processed.

Refund Policy 

Registration, testing, and tuition fees are nonrefundable.

Full refunds will always be given if ALCO cancels a class.

Please allow 3 weeks for refund processing.

Adult Basic Education and GED® Adult Basic Education (ABE) The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program provides instruction in reading, math, and language for individuals wishing to improve basic skills.

General Education Development (GED® ) The General Educational Development (GED® ) program provides instruction in language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics leading to a State of Florida diploma. Enrollment in the Adult Basic Education or GED® training programs: Cost: New Student Continuing Student

Prerequisites:  Students are required to take a placement test and attend an orientation session during enrollment. Visit the “ABE/ GED” section of our website at alco.osceolaschools.net for more information. Online training classes are available for the ABE and GED® training programs. Discuss this option with your counselor if you are interested.

General Education Development (GED® ) Testing Location: All GED® Testing will take place at the Main Campus only. Cost: $128 for the full battery of computer-based tests. ($32 per individual test.) Visit www.ged.com to register for the test. All tests are now given only on the computer. * If you are enrolled as an ALCO student, you’ll receive one free Ready (practice) test and a 50% discount off of the cost of the GED® test! English Enrichment Adult ESOL College and Career Readiness This course is open to students who have completed the adult ESOL course and to other students who demonstrate the required level of English language skills. Students enrolling in this course have a goal to enter a university or college. The class is intended for students who already have a high school diploma, but want to improve their English academic skills before going to a post-secondary institution. Location: ALCO Main Campus Class Schedule: Morning and Afternoon (Monday—Friday) Cost: New Student $70.00 (Continuing Student $45.00 )

Conversational English This 12-hour course is designed to improve English speaking skills through small group discussion and pronunciation activities. Location: ALCO Main Campus Dates and Times: Check the ALCO website at alco.osceolaschools.net. Prerequisites: If you are a current ALCO student, you must be at least a Level 5 or 6 student to attend this class. If you are not an ALCO student, you will be required to complete an oral screening to determine eligibility.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) English for Speakers of Other Languages The six (6) levels of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes are designed for adults who need to develop skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Spanish Conversational Spanish (Level I) This 30-hour course is designed for adult students who have never studied Spanish. Dates and Times:  February 7—March 9 (Tuesdays/Thursdays, 5:30 PM-8:30 PM)—30 Hours Register by January 31 and pay just $149. Cost is $159 after January 31. Osceola County School District employees receive a discount—inquire when registering. Location: ALCO Main Campus Prerequisites: None.

Conversational Spanish (Level II) This 30-hour course is designed for adult students with some Spanish background who want to improve their conversational skills. Dates and Times: Check the Training Classes section of our website at alco.osceolaschools.net or call ALCO at 407-518-8140 for upcoming classes. Osceola County School District employees receive a discount—inquire when registering. Location: ALCO Main Campus Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Spanish or Level I class. The following Spanish courses are offered online: Speed Spanish—Levels I, I, III; Spanish for Medical Professionals; Spanish for Law Enforcement; and Spanish in the Classroom. Test Preparation Citizenship

FCAT Reading Test Preparation

This 16-hour class is designed to prepare eligible permanent residents to successfully complete the process of becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen.

During this 16-hour workshop, you’ll refresh your reading skills necessary for achievement on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).

Cost: $45 for the class. (There is no cost to take Cost: Tuition $30/Book Fee $30/Placement Test Fee $25 the test. Please specify when registering if you want to sign for new students up for both the class and the test.*) Location: ALCO Main Campus

Other Programs & Services Career Center The ALCO Career Center provides career planning, assistance with job search and applications, resume preparation, job interviewing skills, and financial aid/scholarship assistance for ALCO students. Cost: Career Center services are free for all ALCO students. Location: ALCO Main Campus, Building 5 Dates and Times: Office hours are during regular school hours and Tuesday evening until 8:00 PM.

Career Pathways Your education doesn’t stop once you obtain your diploma. As a student at ALCO, you will have the opportunity to work with staff members who will help you develop your own Career Pathway.

How it Works:  Meet with your Career Pathways Advisor and teachers to discuss your progress and goals during and after completion of ESOL classes or the GED®.  Visit the Career Center to participate in career exploration activities to consider opportunities beyond ALCO and to create a career plan.  Receive assistance with your resume, job searching, applications, interviewing, and employment skills.  Attend ALCO workshops and events designed to prepare you for the workforce or higher education.

ALPFA Professional Student Organization The Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) is a national professional development and networking association, consisting of over 22,000 members nationwide. ALCO is proud to have its own student chapter of ALPFA that provides student members with access to skills development workshops, leadership opportunities, networking with regional professionals, and access to scholarships and assistance with college and career endeavors. Cost: Free Prerequisites: Current ALCO students or alumni are eligible to join.

Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) Testing Center Adult Learning Center Osceola (ALCO) is an official testing location for adults who would like to retake the Reading FCAT. Cost: Free. Pre-registration is required and you must register in person; bring photo identification or state-issued ID and Social Security Card. Location: ALCO Main Campus Dates and Times: Tests are administered in the Fall and Spring semesters. Call the ALCO office at 407-518-8140 for more information and test dates.

Test Proctoring ALCO offers test proctoring services to students who are enrolled in internet-based college classes or taking correspondence courses. Cost: $25 Location: ALCO Main Campus Dates and Times: Call the ALCO office at 407-518-8140 to schedule an appointment.
