What is OBESSU

T

he Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU) is a non-profit and independent platform for cooperation between the national school student unions active in general secondary and secondary vocational education in Europe. It was founded in April 1975 in Dublin, Ireland, and brings together Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisations from all over Europe. All Member Organisations are independent, national, representative and democratic school student organisations. OBESSU is a key player on the European arena of policymaking on educational and youth matters, representing the voice of secondary school students towards European decision-making bodies, political institutions and other stakeholders in the field of education

Represents the school students as stakeholders of their educational systems, and in issues concerning their lives

Promotes new teaching methods in learning and promotes healthy teaching environment

Provides the national school student organisations with assistance and support and cooperates for the development of representative school student structures

Encourages and enables exchange of experience and good practice among the national school students organisations

Promotes solidarity and understanding between young people

Contributes to the development of democratic educational systems in Europe, that promote active citizenship in all forms

Promotes equal access to education and strives for the end of all discrimination and injustice within the educational systems
