NUVO readers have named it their favorite and for good reason. The small bar helps you get intimate with the bands on stage. Punks abound here, as do a healthy dose of other non-conformists — all of whom know the Melody Inn has a longtime commitment to the local music scene (and self-expression). They’ve recently added new dance nights like Souldies — a mix of oldies and soul held down by burlesque dancers and local DJs — that are punk in their own way, too. 3826 N. Place for Hippies Mousetrap Bar and Grill Perhaps no other venue in Indianapolis is better suited to jam bands, the smell of patchouli and a bunch of people just interested in grooving to some tunes and hanging out with friends than six-time winner of this category The Mousetrap Bar and Grill. With a good dose of live, mostly local, music as well as pool tables, big screens, darts and a dance floor that occasionally gets pretty crowded, the Mousetrap dominates this category for good reason. It’s the kind of place where everyone is made to feel welcome and most quickly make friends (or at least a friendly acquaintance). Say hi to the Indy Mojo crew, who hosts Altered Thurzdaze weekly and a variety of other events regularly. 5565 N. Keystone Ave., 255-3189, themousetrapbar.com. 2nd: Earth House 3rd: Lazy Daze
