NOW THEN 3. FEB – MAR 2013.

Happy 2013! That seems a funny thing to say in February but the dew is only just evaporating from the new year’s freshly mown grass. I’ve heard the phrase ‘dry January’ all too often as the latest 12 month block was waking up, but now widen those bleary eyes and let’s push on with our first issue of 2013.

5 // LOCAL CHECK.

We have a geographical theme running through the opening pages, with Manchester Mule, Skyliner and the Wythenshawe Walker all returning, plus Richard Barry’s rubbish rant. Food and drink are covered within separate musings on pop up versus permanence, and craft ales. You may already be familiar with the artwork featured in this issue. He’s been featured on the Out House MCR walls on Stevenson Square, amongst other recognisable projects, and has a distinctive colour scheme across his current work. He was initially recommended to us by Jon at The Nook and we’re certainly grateful for that. Dan Birkbeck is his name; remember it. As well as interviewing him, we also feature questions posed to music’s The Age of Glass and fringe theatre’s Lucia Cox. MMU’s creative writers take on Wordlife, Filmreel features community cinema projects, and there are plenty of views and reviews around and between. One reference that we conspired to overlook was for last month’s tiffin recipe. That was provided courtesy of Chorlton’s Sweet Tooth Cupcakery, so we’d like to extend our gratitude for that. Enjoy the read.
