Steps to a Sustainable Future

Nor Luyce is 5 years old On June 7, 2015 Nor Luyce celebrated its 5th anniversary. Representatives of different NGOs and of political and cultural entities were present at the event. During the event, we celebrated the activities we implemented during the 5 years, their results, accomplishments and further plans. The guests were entertained with different musical activities organized by Nor Luyce mentees.

Individual Meetings in Nor Luyce During these three months we completed the mentoring individual meetings. We realized 46 individual meetings during these three months. The individual meetings were also very interesting and unique during this period. The mentees and mentors visited museums, completed volunteer work, and visited different cultural sights. While analyzing the work of the whole year, it was decided that Larisa Jamakochyan and Lilit Shahnazaryan would be recognized as the best mentors of 2014-2015, because we could see their productive work, unique meetings, mentor-mentee cooperation, and the positive changes in the mentees. In 2014-2015 a total of 364 individual meetings were realized .

Extra curriculum meetings During these three months, 3 group meetings were realized for the extra curriculum meetings. Two meetings were about Adobe Photoshop, during which the mentees learnt how to color photos, and write their names in ice and fire styles using different Photoshop tools. During the 3rd meeting the mentees took exams in Power Point, MS Word, Paint, and Adobe Photoshop. Our mentees did practical work that provided us with an opportunity, not only to understand how well they learnt the taught programs, but also fill gaps in their knowledge .

Skill Building Phase During these three months 4 skill-building phase group meetings were realized. Those meetings were about Leadership, power-point presentations, career planning, and career plan presentations. These meetings contributed to the development of leadership and rhetorical skills, of creating the career plan and speaking in front of the public with ease.

Overall group meetings During these three months 2 overall group meetings were realized. Those meetings were titled: “Gestures” and “Smile and the world will smile back”. The topic “Gestures” was presented by mentees: Gohar Galoyan and Hasmik Nahapetyan. Larisa Jamakochyan, who was Hasmik’s mentor, helped Gohar and Hasmik prepare for the topic. The overall goal of the meetings were not only provide the mentees with new information, but also to help them become more positive towards life and reveal the positive impact of a smile .

Mentoring training During these three months we had two mentoring training, titled “One step forward” and “The principles of the mentor’s work”. The trainings allowed the participants to look back at their past, present and future, as well as to refresh their knowledge regarding the mentoring relationship, the role of a mentor, and the necessary rules applied during the mentoring work .

Mentoring meetings During these three months a new mentoring group was formed. The group meetings organized by the new mentors started in this period. So overall 7 group meetings were realized by the mentors, which were titled as follows “Let’s get acquainted with each other”, “Who I am,” “Character,” “Dream,” “Armenian culture,” “Tourism,” and “Rhetorical speech.” The group meetings were aimed at getting to know each other, revealing each other, building a team together, having a good time and of course gaining new knowledge .

Nor Luyce NGO is cooperating with “Tribuna” NGO “Nor Luyce” NGO has organized a soccer game with “Tribuna” NGO. Our mentees had an opportunity to play soccer with the local soccer team who got first prize in Girls Soccer Championship of Armenia 2015. The game took place at the Soccer Academy of Gyumri .

Nor Luyce took part in Shirak-Artsakh NGO Expo An NGO expo was organized in Artsakh. All the active NGOs from Shirak and Artsakh took part in it. In this big event Nor Luyce was presented by one of its mentors: Lena Ghazaryan. At the event, Lena presented when and with what mission the organization was established, what successes it has had and what future plans the organization has. The NGO Expo participants also met with the Artsakh cultural ministry head, with parliament members and with the representatives of local entities.

Nor Luyce mentees took part in GLOW day camp Nor Luyce NGO and YIC NGO with the cooperation of Peace Corps started GLOW summer camp in Gyumri. A number of 25 teenage girls took part in the camp. In this camp some of our mentors and mentees took part not only as participants, but also as councilors and Jr. councilors.

Nor Luyce in Psycamp On August 1, Nor Luyce NGO partook in a two-day Psycamp in Gyumri. The opening presentation was started by Nor Lucye organization. During the Psycamp Nor Luyce members gave a speech on the topic titled: “Does a teenager need a mentor?” During the speech we presented who a mentor is, with what principles mentors work, what work they do together with their mentees, and what changes they have as a result of the meetings. At the end the participants chose the most important points from all the aspects and they mapped the important points-- concluding that Yes, teenagers need a mentor .

The successes of our mentees This year four of our mentees said goodbye to their schools. Anna Unusyan was admitted to the “Finance” department of the Economic State University, Drmoyan Lusine was admitted to the “Enterprising and finance” department of Polytechnic university, Ruzanna Hakobyan was admitted to the “Methodology” department of the Pedagogical university, and Naira Hamazaspyan was admitted to the “Social work” department in Shirak regional college. We wish good luck to our mentees in their student life. Nor Luyce is here for you and is ready to cover all your expenses.

Armenian language classes at Nor Luyce Nor Luyce continues to organize its Armenian language tutoring for 9 mentees. During the tutoring, attention was focused on the improvement of the mentees’ knowledge of grammar. Thank you to our tutors for educating our mentees

Nor Luyce NGO took part in Yoga International day event On June 21 it was Yoga International day and Nor Luyce mentees took part in Yoga International day event. Birthright Armenia volunteer Sophie Vranian organized a Yoga class in Hayordats tun organization, and Nor Luyce mentees took part in that class and learnt about Yoga, its importance and did some easy exercises. Youth International Day EXPO in Gyumri On August 12, Youth International Day, a number of events took place in Gyumri. One of the events was Youth NGO and Entity expo in the central park. 15 NGOs, as well as Nor Luyce Mentoring Center for Youth NGO partook in the Expo.
