New Faces in NIU Athletics Sean Frazier

Associate Vice President & Director of Athletics

On July 16th, 2013, Frazier was announced by President Doug Baker as the new Associate Vice President & Director of Athletics for NIU. Frazier brings vast experience as a Director of Athletics at three institutions and has spent the last six years in senior leadership roles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, serving most recently as Deputy Director of Athletics. A former football student-athlete at the University of Alabama, Frazier has 22 years of overall experience as a director of athletics at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels. Frazier oversaw all fundraising and advancement activities at UW, including the annual fund, major gifts, suites and club seats, endowments, multimedia rights, ticket operations and alumni affairs. During his tenure at Wisconsin, he served as the administrator for three revenue-producing sports (football, men’s basketball and men’s ice hockey), prividing direct support to the football program that won three consecutive Big Ten Conference Championships. Frazier and his wife, Rosa, have three Children, daughters Marina (11) and Marcella (4) and son Maximo (9).

Ryan Sedevie

Associate Athletics Director for Collegiate Advancement and External Affairs

Sedevie comes to NIU from the University of Wisconsin, where he spent the last 18 years. At NIU, Sedevie will serve as a member of Frazier’s senior staff with responsibility for the marketing, sales and game experience of NIU Athletics events with an emphasis on increasing revenue and exposure. He will lead the creation, execution and evaluation of NIU’s marketing, awareness and sales campaigns and be responsible for initiatives designed to generate ticket sales and increase home attendance. Sedevie will also manage external operations associated with NIU Athletics fundraising and special events. His duties extend to overseeing the university licensing program and managing the premium seating and suite holder hospitality for football and basketball game day. Sedevie will be Huskie Athletics’ liaison to the NIU Convocation Center Box office and to NIU multimedia rightsholder, IMG College. Sedevie and his wife, Melissa, have a daughter Madelyn (8) and son Gavin (4)

Rod Carey

Head Coach, Football Rod Carey, who has spent the last two seasons on the coaching staff of the most successful teams ever at Northern Illinois University, was named the 22nd head football coach in school history on Dec. 2, 2012. The 41-year old Carey was promoted after serving as NIU’s offensive coordinator during most of the 2012 season. Moments after Carey was introduced to the Huskie team as the new head coach, NIU made history as the first Mid-American Conference team invited to play in a Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bowl game. Coach Carey spent his first two seasons at NIU helping guide two of the most prolific offenses in school history as the Huskies won back-to-back MAC Championships and 11-or-more games each year.
