2 NEWPORTPARKS&RECREATION FALL 2013 ACTIVITY GUIDE WWW.NEWPORTOREGON.GOV/RECREATION NEWPORT RECREATION CENTER A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Nothing ever stays the same. I like change and I like to see all the guests come, but, it is also fun to be able to take a left turn in town. This summer has been much busier then recent memory and that is good for all our service industries. As I start thinking about the weather changing and pine needles dropping I can’t help but think about all the Holidays coming and packing on a few extra pounds. Since I’m not alone in this seasonal phenomena, I’m looking for a few good partners to walk the track an get the loss to gain ratio tilted before the food hits. Are you with me? The next thing I want to bring to your attention is that the City is asking the question as to whether we should move forward on the construction of a new municipal pool. The planning has been done and many thoughts have been considered and the architect has incorporated as many different desires as would fit in the space and keep costs under control. We are including some information in the guide about the specifics and I encourage you to take the time to look over what is being proposed. If you have additional thoughts or questions, please feel free to call me. Lastly, it’s not too late to enjoy the great daylight we still have. Yes, the days’ are getting shorter and the nights’ cooler, but the afternoons can be spectacular. There might be a special stretch of the beach to discover or a trail you have been meaning to get on. The window is closing and it won’t stay like this for much longer. When things change, we are here to welcome you inside at your pool, 60 plus center and the Recreation Center.
