BIMPE III
Introduction BIMPE III - the Third Biennial International Miniature Print Exhibition - was promoted and organised this year by Dundarave Print Workshop, a co-op printmaking studio and gallery, and New Leaf Editions, a custom print workshop, both on Granville Island, Vancouver. The exhibition is held during the summer months when Granville Island gets itís largest influx of visitors. With the help of Debra Yelva Dedyluck (a founding organizer of BIMPE), it was possible to arrange a tour of this exhibition to San Chun Gallery in Calgary, Alberta. The only requirement for BIMPE III is that the print is not to exceed 10 x 15 cm. The image making process can employ any printmaking technique, from traditional to digital. The convenient and cost-effective shipping size, along with alternative arrangements made with artists for whom the entry fee is prohibitive, make the show accessible to all countries. This year’s entries came in from 30 different countries, revealing current trends in ideas and latest developments in printing techniques and providing invaluable experience for all taking part. Three jurors, Lisa MacLean, Barb Zeigler, and Kent Lovelace, struggled through the process of choosing the prints for the BIMPE III exhibition. We were all thrilled to see the wide variety of printmaking going on in all corners of the world. The winners were announced at the opening reception on July 4th. Michiko Suzuki of Japan was present to receive the first prize of $1,500.00 USD, while Vladimir Zuev of Russia was awarded the second prize of $1,000.00 USD. A third honorary placement was given to Georgina Arce Cano from Mexico We would like to thank everyone who entered the exhibition, including those who submitted excellent prints, which were not selected.
