Η ενστικτώδης και διαισθητική ζωγραφική της Βάσως Τρίγκα, επίπονα δουλεμένη με πινέλα και σπάτουλες, που οργώνουν ακούραστα τον καμβά και με οπτικό αποτέλεσμα που διατελεί σε απόλυτη ελευθερία, συμπαρασύρει μονομιάς τον θεατή σε ένα εξπρεσιονιστικό σύμπαν με εκρηκτικά φυσικά χρώματα και ποικίλες πρωτογενείς υφές, ένα οργανικό, απτικό σχεδόν σύμπαν παλλόμενο από εναλλασσόμενες εναιωρήσεις και καταβυθίσεις στην ίδια του τη βασική πρώτη ύλη. Ανάμεσα στα περιπετειώδη μπλε και τα χλωρά πράσινα ξέφωτα των λαχανόκηπων, πίσω από τα πυκνά θερινά κίτρινα των ήμερων κοιλάδων και τα ζωηρά κόκκινα των ροδόνων και των απάτητων κοραλλιογενών βυθών ενός τροπικού αρχιπελάγους, κοντά στην αιωρούμενη αύρα της φωτεινής μνήμης του Chagall και του Matisse, η Τρίγκα μας συστήνει μια νέα μικρή γεωγραφία του κόσμου, έναν ανεξερεύνητο και οργιώδη σε βλάστηση τόπο θαυμάτων όπου η λεπτότατη απόχρωση και το απειροελάχιστο θρόισμα αίφνης αποκτούν μια διεσταλμένη σημασία. Αφήνοντας πίσω της την προηγούμενη συνθήκη του βλέμματος, την ιδέα ενός ανοιχτού «παράθυρου στον κόσμο» που αποτέλεσε τον εννοιολογικό άξονα αλλά και την οπτική γωνία της προηγούμενης δουλειάς της, μα διατηρώντας την επιτακτική ανάγκη ελευθερίας της έκφρασης που συναντήσαμε και στις προηγούμενες ενότητες της δουλειάς της, η Βάσω Τρίγκα επινοεί ένα νέο και εξαιρετικά εύγλωττο παιχνίδι θέασης των πραγμάτων, μια καινούρια συναισθηματική και εννοιολογική συνθήκη όπου το «μέσα» του «εγώ», εισχωρεί και συνενεργεί στο «έξω» του άλλου: στο βλέμμα και το νου 5

της ζωγράφου, ακόμη και όταν αυτός παραμένει αθέατος, υπάρχει πάντοτε τώρα ένας κρυφός «Πίσω Κήπος», ένα μικρό οργανικό καταφύγιο για τις ατίθασες χειρονομίες του χρωστήρα, για τις πυκνές και σχεδόν αόρατες σχεδιαστικές γραμμές, για τα ρυθμικά τόξα και τις καμπύλες, για τα φώτα και τις σκιές, για τις διαφάνειες και τις πυκνώσεις, για τους μυστικούς καρπούς, τις ρίζες και τους πλοχμούς, για τις αφαιρετικές οργανικές φόρμες της με τη χαρακτηριστική απτική ποιότητα. Στον πίσω αυτό Κήπο του νου, οι ώρες και οι ημέρες διαδέχονται απαλά η μία την άλλη. Οι τίτλοι, εύγλωττοι, συμβολίζουν στο σύνολό τους τη συνομιλία του διηνεκούς με το εφήμερο: λευκοί ανεπίδοτοι φάκελοι κρυμμένοι ανάμεσα στην άμμο και τα τρυφερά χαμομήλια, ημερολόγια μοναδικών στιγμών και κυκλικής επανάληψης, σπορά και βλάστηση –οι μικροί θάνατοι και οι νέες γεννήσεις που αναδεύουν τον ύπνο της γης, ανθισμένοι τοίχοι που εγκαλούν τον θεατή να μαντέψει εκείνο που κρύβεται πίσω τους, μικροί υδάτινοι πίδακες που υπαινίσσονται κάθαρση, χαμηλές πτήσεις επάνω από ανθισμένα λιβάδια και καταδύσεις σε θαλασσινές αβύσσους με μυστικούς ενάλιους κήπους. Στον επινοημένο ετούτο εύφορο τόπο με την απεριόριστη θέα, η Βάσω Τρίγκα σχηματίζει και εικονοποιεί τις σκέψεις της για μία ακόμη φορά παρορμητικά, σταματώντας «εκεί που κάθε φορά την ικανοποιεί η ακαθόριστη αλλά ωσεί παρούσα αίσθηση του έργου, το χειρονομιακά και συναισθηματικά φορτισμένο πεδίο του αλλά και η ενδοφλέβιά του ρυθμολογία». Η απεριόριστη ελευθερία της ζωγράφου που εγκαλεί ταυτόχρονα σε ονειροπόληση και επιθυμία ερμηνείας, μοιάζει εδώ να αφορά εξίσου και τον θεατή: η διηνεκής κατάλυση των εύπλαστων ορίων, προτείνει αναρίθμητες δυνατότητες περιήγησης τόσο στην ίδια την εικόνα όσο και στα ορατά της σύμβολα, επιβεβαιώνοντας και επαναπροσδιορίζοντας με ευφράδεια την ίδια την ουσία της ζωγραφικής πράξης. Και εντέλει, στο τελευταίο έργο της έκθεσης, το επινοημένο από τη ζωγράφο «περίπτερο» των εφήμερων ειδήσεων, αλλά και στον «Στοχαστή», τη μοναχική ανθρώπινη φιγούρα που συνοδεύει με το συμβολικό της εκτόπισμα την ενότητα «Θέα», συμπυκνώνονται οι αναζητήσεις και οι λύσεις της αυτογνωσιακής πορείας της ζωγραφικής της Βάσως Τρίγκα: στην κόψη του βλέμματος και της μνήμης, το εφήμερο της είδησης τρέπεται σε διηνεκή εμπειρία και το διηνεκές της σκέψης σε άυλο αλλά ωσεί παρόντα σύντροφο. Vasso Triga’s instinctual and insightful painting, painstakingly worked with paintbrushes and palette knives, which furrow her canvas tirelessly, creating a visual result that operates in absolute freedom, sweeps the viewer up in an expressionist universe with explosive natural colours and varied primordial textures; an organic, tangible, almost pulsing universe, alternately soaring above and sinking into its own basic raw materials. In amongst the adventurous blues and the verdant green clearings of the kitchen gardens; behind the dense summer yellows of the cultivated fields and the bright reds of the rose gardens and the untouched coral reefs of a tropical archipelago; near the hovering aura of lambent memories of Chagall and Matisse, Triga introduces us to a new, miniature geography of the world, an unexplored place of miracles with its riotous vegetation, where the slightest nuances of shade and the lightest rustle suddenly gain an expanded meaning. Setting aside any previous accord of sight, the idea of an open “window on the world”, which constituted the conceptual axis as well as the perspective of her previous oeuvre, but maintaining the imperative necessity of freedom of expression, which we have encountered in previous chapters of her work, Vasso Triga conceives of a new and exceptionally eloquent game for viewing things, a novel emotional and conceptual compact, where the “inside” of the “self” permeates and acts with the “outside” of the other: in the artist’s gaze and intellect, even when it remains unseen, there 8

is always a Secret Rear Garden, a small organic refuge for untamed gestural brushstrokes, for rhythmic arches and curves, for lights and shadows, for transparencies and densities, for its secret fruit, its roots and braided tendrils, for its abstract organic forms with their tangible quality. In the Secret Rear Garden of the artist’s mind, the hours and days gently succeed one another. The titles are eloquent and symbolise as a unit the discourse between the perpetual and the ephemeral: white, undelivered envelopes hidden in the sand and amongst the tender chamomile; journals of unique instants and cyclical repetition; the seeds are sown, the plants bloom - the little deaths and new births that stir the sleep of the earth; the blooming walls that call upon the viewer to guess what lies hidden beyond them; the watery fountains, that hint of cleansing; low flights over blooming meadows; and dives into water abyssals with mysterious underwater gardens. In this conceived and fertile place, with its unrestricted view, Vasso Triga yet again shapes and illustrates her thoughts impulsively, stopping “each time where my indefinable yet nevertheless present sense of the piece is satisfied, where I feel its gesturally and emotionally loaded feel and its intravenous cadence”. The artist’s boundless freedom, which simultaneously calls one to daydream and to attempt to interpret, here appears to concern the viewer equally: the perpetual dissolution of malleable boundaries proposes countless possibilities for wandering, both through the image itself and through its visible symbols, affirming and articulately redefining the very essence of the act of painting. And finally, the final work in the exhibition, with the “kiosk” of ephemeral news conceived by the painter, as well as the Thinker, the sole human figure, which accompanies the chapter Théa - View with its symbolic displacement, condenses all the progress in Vasso Triga’s painting - the quest for self-knowledge and the solutions found: in the cutting edge of gaze and memory, the ephemeral quality of news is transformed into perpetual experience and the perpetuity of thought becomes an immaterial yet almost palpable companion.
