After to positions of greater authority and responsibility. Thus, skill-levels of people filling those roles must be developed and enhanced. You must take your game to a higher level. I am not saying that you will never find a clerical position... What I am saying is that to get a clerical position, you need to stress your accomplishments in your prior jobs instead of your job duties. Remember... Vanilla is not the flavor! An abundance of (Support-level) positions are not likely to return any time soon. These positions were eliminated to reduce red-tape and streamline the flow of information in companies. A recurring theme in the job market is `contribution to the bottom line.' Employers have been faced with the challenges of all, with out customers, we have no business. And without people that can create value for customers, the business cannot exist. As a job seeker, it is critical that you stress how your contributions to your past employer. You must sell your accomplishments � not your previous job duties! Most positions are easily understood. For example, most people know that a Process Engineer reviews and evaluates business processes, performs time studies... blah, blah, blah. But how did the Process Engineer, improve organizational efficiency and effectively improve deliveries to the customer and reduce cost? In other words, what value did the process Engineer create? I am going to repeat, as a job seeker, you must sell your accomplishments � not your previous job duties! Be sure to read our article in next month's issue for practical tips for resume building. Whether you are looking for work as a Financial Advisor, a Process Engineer, a Web Designer, a Sales Representative, a Controller, a Warehouse Manager, a Machinist or an entry level position, you have to stand out from the pack! You have to package and present yourself in a way that creates value for the employer. After all, why should the employer choose you over the hundreds of other people that may be applying for the same position? What do you offer that can help the employer grow revenues or reduce cost in the organization? As you focus your job search, you must start with the very basic understanding that many organizational support functions have been eliminated. Support functions are best described as jobs that require skills of a clerical nature. I cannot tell you how many companies I visit that no longer have a Receptionist. Many of these duties have been consumed by technological advances in telephone systems and the reduction in paperwork created by the use of our economic efforts to go paperless. Monthly gains were seen in all regions. Mortgage Rates Near Record Lows When you consider the news from the National Association of Realtors and the current mortgage market conditions, there may never be a better time to buy a home or trade up to a larger home. Mortgage rates have dropped recently to near record lows. A question that I get asked on a daily basis : Is it worth it for me to refinance and for the most part my answer is yes. There are two schools of thought that customers have regarding a refinance, the first is lowering their monthly obligation by a few hundred dollars a month and seeing an instant savings. The other, and with the lower term mortgage rates really dropping, is should I go to a lower term and maybe have their monthly payments go up a bit. These are decisions that only the customer can make and it is my job to inform them of their options so they can make the best decision for themselves. That said people who are in longer term mortgages, 30 year fixed or adjustable rate mortgages have a unique opportunity to significantly shorten the term of their mortgage substantially. This option is very popular right now as people can see the long term savings. For example, if you have a 30 year mortgage at 5.5% interest rate that has been open for 5 years and your original balance was 200k your payment would be $1135.58 a month. If you were to refinance to a 20 year loan at 4% the payment would be $1181.66, $46.08 more a month but you have knocked 5 years of your mortgage. You would save tens of thousands of dollars. It is important to know these facts as you contemplate a refinance.
