Sandy will bring with her, her beautiful quilts and fabrics and share the stories behind American Jane. Sandy Klop had her first exposure to the world of colorful patterns while watching Klompen dancers perform. Every year in May her hometown of Holland, Michigan, celebrated tulip time with a vast array of Dutch costumes. She was first exposed to quilting in 1979 at her sister-in-laws when she returned from teaching in Iran. She went on to teach art in Saudi Arabia for the next four years. She loved the rich colors and patterns in the tiles and carpets of the Middle East. Back in California, Sandy began to make pattern samples for a local quilt store. From there she moved to machine quilting. She has worked at a local quilt shop and taught many quilt classes. In 2000 she published a series of quilt books with Jan Patek under the series title Folk Art Favorites before venturing out on her own as American Jane Patterns. In 2003 at Quilt Market Moda approached her to see if she would like to capture her look in fabric. She has been designing for Moda ever since. “Now I have a new fabric range from Moda every six months and I design quilt patterns to feature my new fabrics. I’m truly living my dream.” Her creative designs have appeared in several catalogs and many magazines. She speaks regularly on the topic, “The American Jane Story in Fabric”.

It's amazing what you can learn about color just by paying attention! Becky will share with us what she's figured out about color over the years and how she uses what she's learned in her quilts. I was born and raised in Oklahoma City. My husband, Steve, and I met at the University of Oklahoma. We married in 1978, at the end of our senior year at OU when we each completed our degrees, mine in interior design and his in zoology. He went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Zoology at Arizona State University. His career has taken us to Tempe, AZ, Tulsa, OK, and most recently to Sherman, TX, where he is currently chair of the Biology Department. Luckily, I can make quilts anywhere! Our boys, Chris and Jeff were born while Steve was in graduate school. I discovered quilting when the boys were young and needed comforters for their bunk beds. I have not put my needle down since! I met Linda Jenkins, my partner in Piece O’ Cake Designs, not long after I started quilting at a meeting of the Green Country Quilters’ Guild in Tulsa. We’ve been friends ever since. We started Piece O' Cake in 1994. I could not ask for a better partner. Making quilts is interesting, fulfilling, and challenging. Being an author, teacher, and running a web-based business is exhilarating. This is not what I thought I would be doing with my life when I graduated from college. This is so much better!

Joanna Figeuroa Lecture & Trunk Show Class #135 Joanna Figeuroa is the face behind the beautiful Fig Tree quilts and fabric for Moda Fabrics. Joanna will share with us her beautiful quilts, the stories behind them and her journey in being a "well-known" fabric and pattern designer. My name is Joanna Figueroa. I am a textile designer, a quilt pattern designer and the owner of Fig Tree Quilts. I run the business with the help of my right hand man, my husband, the encouragement of my children and the busy hands of a whole team of wonderful ladies [and a gentleman]. And that's just my second job! My first job is being a mom to my three kids, Ben-8, Zack-6 and Ella-2...

Between these 2 loves of mine, there isn't much time left for other things, including doing the laundry and doing my hair in the morning. I am currently trying to do a better job of balancing all of the things I feel passionate about. The list is long.
