The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore: In the historic town of Glen Haven find old-fashioned treats and toys at the general store, a working blacksmith shop next door, and a wooden boat museum housed in a defunct cherry cannery. Off M109, south of Glen Arbor. Just down the road (left at Lake Michigan) at the Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Station Maritime Museum catch a live reenactment of a shipwreck rescue (in which Raggedy Ann & Andy play the part of the rescued) every summer day at 3 p.m. North of Glen Arbor off M22, more than a dozen 19th-century subsistence farmsteads comprise Port Oneida Rural Historic District—the nation’s largest historic agricultural community, forever preserved.
