John Finizio President, St. Joseph Health Center St. Joseph had a very exciting and successful year in 2011, and I want to thank our medical staff for all their contributions and commitment to St. Joe's and our patients. The big event of course was the launching of CarePATH, our electronic medical record that went live in August. This is by far the one of the biggest initiatives that we have seen in recent years and although a significant change, physicians and staff have done well
in the transition. Some other significant events worth mentioning: • Recertification of St. Joe's as a Magnet Hospital • Installation of lift equipment for patient and employee safety • Opening of our new Infusion Center • Our new location and expansion of our Sleep Lab • Received the Anthem Quality Award • Acquired adjacent property on Eastland Avenue for future expansion • Contracted with AVI for all dietary services • Successful ACOS survey for Cancer Care Center • Renovated the Howland Surgery Center
Outpatient Speech Pathology Services at St. Joseph Hunter Square Facility Convenient, comprehensive care is the standard at St. Joseph’s Outpatient Speech Pathology Hunters Square location. Evaluation and treatment are provided for children and adults with speech, language, cognition, voice, stuttering, laryngectomy, swallowing difficulties, and autistic spectrum disorders. Parents/caregivers can watch the therapy session through an observation window allowing them to observe the progress of the patient and to understand how to follow- through with therapy at home. The speech pathologist communicates closely with the referring physician. Referring physicians receive the patient’s evaluation report as well as routine, on-going therapy summaries. Insurance verification is completed for the family by the Rehabilitation Insurance Verification Administrator and the
information is quickly passed on to the patient’s family. The Speech Pathology Department at St. Joseph Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Hunters Square is open Monday through Friday and 2 evenings for after school appointments. • Added digital radiology at our Andover emergency • US World and News report distinction for St. Joe's Gynecology services As we look to 2012, there are going to be continued growth and operational initiatives at St. Joseph that will improve our physician, patient and employee experience. Although 2012 will be challenging, I am confident that we will continue to have the same success in achieving quality outcomes, operational improvements, and strong financial performance as we did in 2011.
Nursing Update I am very happy to share with you that on December 16, 2011 we were notified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) that St. Joseph Health Center which includes Andover Emergency and the Howland Surgery Center, received Magnet re-designation. For SJHC along with SEHC, this is a second re-designation. In addition, SEBHC received first time designation. This is truly a wonderful achievement for our nursing division. Magnet status means clinical nurses, along with nursing leadership, are making a difference in patient care and outcomes. It also demonstrates the collaborative processes between nurses, physicians, and other members of the health care team. I especially want to thank the doctors at SJHC who took time to meet with the Magnet appraisers during their visit in September. The ANCC always seek out our physicians’ perspective of nursing.
