2012 MVC Tournament Review Game 1 --

Creighton Takes 2012 Title   Doug McDermott had 33 points, and Antoine Young scored eight of his 14 in overtime as No. 24 Creighton survived an upset with an 83-79 win vs. Illinois State in what was just the fifth overtime championship tilt in MVC history.

Notably, Creighton won the conference tourney for the seventh time in 14 seasons and earned its first NCAA bid since 2007.   Freshman Nic Moore had 20 points for Illinois State and drove the length of the court for a layup with 6.5 seconds to go in regulation that forced overtime. Jackie Carmichael added 17 points and nine rebounds for Illinois State.   McDermott made 12 of 18 shots with three 3-pointers, while scoring 33 points -- the fourth-most in championship game history.   Coach Greg McDermott of Creighton became the first coach in league history to win the conference tournament at two different schools (he also previously won as UNI’s head coach.)
