MITI - Museo dell’Innovazione e della Tecnica Industriale Corridoio storico

The MITI - Museum of Innovation & Industrial Technology is housed within the “Montani” Historical Works of the Industrial Institute in Fermo. The goal of the Museum is to tell the story of the prestigious Industrial Institute from the 19th century origins to the present day, emphasizing the close relationship between the School (the knowledge) and the Factory (the know-how), which characterized in the past, and still does nowadays, the learning trajectory of this Institute. In an exhibition route, which intends to highlight the historic machinery of the Institute and the transmission of centuries-old technical knowledge, the visitor is involved in a real journey of discovery through interactive and educational equipment devices. In the first Hall dedicated to Girolamo and Margherita Montani thanks to the educational technological equipment, the visitors will be able to comprehend the necessary interaction, between the hands and the brain, for the production of technological innovations. The heart of the Museum is the large central room, home of the old Foundry, the Ernest Hallié Hall, where next to ovens, the historical machines (the mallet, the calander, the punching press, the milling machine, the lathe and the gear-cutter) take their places used by students in the workshops to learn the “know-how”. The room is completed by the six interactive places that allow the visitors to understand the use of the machinery and their evolution. The historic corridor, with period documents, traces back through the history of the “Montani” and of the distinguished individuals who gave life to the Institute in the wake of the Unification of Italy. The tour ends in the Hippolyte Langlois Hall, the didactic equipment room from various periods and fields (mechanics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, electronics, radio electronics, computing), used in the school for the teaching of scientific knowledge. The Museum, in addition to preserving the testimonies of the past, includes spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions and is a place to promote innovations, fruit of the union between Knowledge (brain) and Know-how (hands).
