3rd SEASON

Hometown Chicago, Ill. Birthdate April 9, 1975 Education Avila University ‘99 Degree Business Administration Baker University ‘02 Master’s Degree MBA High School Wells Chicago, Ill. Billy Kennedy on Chew “Isaac is a tireless worker and is a very good recruiter for our program. He is a big part of our success and also has a great way of communicating with our guys.”

Isaac Chew begins his third season at Murray State with a renewed spirit for recruiting and continued passion for coaching. Since joining the staff in 2007, Chew has assisted in the Racer’s consistent overall record improvement. Recruiting elite talent, including last year’s Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Ivan Aska and OVC All-Newcomer Team member Isacc Miles, Chew has been instrumental in introducing young players to the Murray State mentality. Well known in the AAU basketball circuit, Coach Chew led the Kansas City Pump ‘n Run and Kansas City Keys teams prior to his stint at Murray. These championship squads were highly touted, but this mentor is most proud of his 25 athletes that signed with D-I and D-II colleges. Chew joined MSU after serving as an assistant coach at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. The team advanced to the NJCAA National tournament for the first time in five seasons, and finished 34-2. His collegiate coaching career initially began as an assistant at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo. from 1999-2001, and then again from 2004-2006. Chew is a consummate educator of the game and believes in making an impact on the studentathletes in the MSU program. He keeps the door of communication open and encourages his players to take full advantage of every opportunity set forth. Chew was an outstanding talent during his playing days. He was the Blue West Chicago Public League Player of the Year out of Wells High School, and played college basketball at Iowa Lakes Community College from 1994-1996. He finished his playing career at Avila University. He earned a degree in business in 1999 at Avila and his MBA from Baker University in 2002. After working for six years as a director of finance in Corporate America, he came back to the college game. Chew thoroughly enjoys working for a coach like Billy Kennedy. “It’s refreshing to work with Coach Kennedy,” Chew said. “He provides me a lot of autonomy while giving me a great deal of responsibility. This allows me to be a leader in so many different ways. Yet, he’s always around to give me the necessary guidance needed to have continued success.” There is also great anticipation for the season ahead. Finishing just shy of the OVC championship for the last three years, Chew believes that the pieces are finally in place. Backed by toughness, leadership, and experience, Chew feels that this group truly epitomizes the components necessary to be triumphant. The Chicago native is married to the former Patrice Coleman and has three children Deijah (13), Jada (8) and Patrick (5).
