number...in a week! Our first ever digital edition, has reached over 350,000 readers and counting, and has clocked over 2.2 million unique pageviews. Amazing. W

hen we launched our first digital issue months ago, our goal was to reach an ever growing online audience spanning the globe. And at that time, the magic number in my head was 10,000. I thought that if we could reach 10,000 readers, then we did a great job. Thankfully, we reached that magic

This issue promises to bring you another full dose of digital fancy. It’s our most multicultural issue to date, with weddings ranging from Milwaukee to South Africa. “In the wedding world you don't really see too many people of color. I wanted to channel some really fun, fresh and beautiful energy into an inspiration shoot with a gorgeous black couple. So a preppy/geek chic feel for him, and then just a gorgeous fantasy feel for her. Spring, fresh, beautiful, fun, geeky... Those were my inspiration words. Nailed it! lerkia’s inspiration

“I was inspired by natural beauties that I would chat with in passing who were undecided as to how to style their hair for their wedding and honeymoon. Since I too have been natural for 13 years, I felt that it was time to showcase women of color who need inspiration in preparation for their special day. Many women have decided to alter their look just for their wedding because they are frustrated and unable to find the perfect style for their hair. I discussed my concept with my hairstylist and she agreed that we should begin featuring stunning looks for brides who need inspiration that would compliment their bridal hair vision. I visited Paris recently and met a natural bride and she had a vintage pearl comb in her coiled tresses and that inspired me because basic hair accessories can provide a universal look effortlessly. There are so many natural hair options for brides and my goal is to continue to partner with natural hair care professionals to style shoots that will showcase the possibilities. I’m very pleased that many women are embracing their natural state, because it is a beautiful thing.”

meet the stylist

TELL US ABOUT YOU AND YOUR COMPANIES, SAVVY SOIRÉES AND MODAGE? HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? 44

I’ve always loved planning events and planned my own destination wedding in Negril, Jamaica in October 2004. Upon my return from my honeymoon, I decided to enroll in a Wedding Planning course that my mentor Shelby Tuck-Horton taught at a local community college. I was very excited about the possibilities and to date, Savvy Soirées Event Management Company has planned over 100 social events, 50 destination weddings and 35 traditional weddings. With respect to my bridal styling firm, MODAGE, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for fashion and discovered (while planning weddings) that ultimately the “Dress” is really the centerpiece of the event. I began to breathe bridal fashion, researched my favorite designers and their signature styles. I work closely with reputable boutiques and designers locally and abroad and have connected with many bridal professionals by attending industry events and Bridal Market in both April and October in New York. My bridal styling firm “MODAGE · Where Modern Meets Vintage,” is derived from my love for “modern” pieces that compliment my “vintage” finds, so I combined the two words and established “MODAGE” in January 2009. From taking measurements to consulting on the choice of bouquet colors, our professional styling services are tailored to compliment our clients personality and style.

DIGITAL. ISSUE 02 . 2012

WHO ARE YOUR FASHION ICONS? My female fashion icon would be Audrey Hepburn, I was and still am mesmerized by her style, especially in Roman Holiday, Breakfast At Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady. Her style was very refined and so glamorous. My male fashion icon is Tom Ford because he too exudes sophistication and has an eye for unparalleled quality and style. WHO INSPIRES YOU? Right now, I’m inspired by Ms. Solange Knowles and Olivia Palermo - they both take risks and are the epitome of chic. Life itself is the best form of inspiration because it forces me to change my perspective daily. Watching old black and white movies provide me with so much inspiration as well and I’m convinced that the 1950’s was the most glamorous of decades with respect to fashion. I could go on and on.

45

WHAT IS A TYPICAL MODAGE BRIDE LIKE? The Modage bride is very unconventional. She loves mixing modern elements with vintage pieces. She is a very confident woman who appreciates a timeless look that will be relevant 20 years from now. She entertains the current trends but stays true to her individual style and doesn’t mind turning heads in the process. HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT STYLING A BRIDE FOR HER WEDDING? WHAT'S THE PROCESS LIKE? All of our clients complete a style analysis questionnaire before we proceed with pulling bridal looks. Once we decide on their specific needs, we assist them with their engagement session styling as well as selecting their dream gowns (because many have two) and all their soughtafter accessories, including stunning shoes. We accompany them on their wedding day to dress, button, bustle, pin and prepare them for the wedding and reception. Our staff also assists with the selection of all the bridal party attire and accessories. The fun part is helping the couple with their honeymoon wardrobe, as well as their gift shopping registry.

www.munaluchibridal.com . DIGITAL.ISSUE 02. 2012

WHAT ARE THE BRIDAL FASHION TRENDS YOU'VE NOTICED THIS YEAR? Couples are really getting creative this wedding season. The demand for peplum gowns are increasing, as well as fitted beaded bodices and full skirts. We also love convertible gowns which provide brides with multiple looks for the wedding, cocktail hour and the reception. Many of our clients are stepping out of the box and using unique nail polish colors, unique colored veils and gorgeous vintage necklaces to complete their look. I’ve had a few request for blush wedding gowns, as well as utterly feminine and romantic short bridesmaids dresses. Our grooms are wearing more tailored suits because they like the practical look but will put a spin on their attire by wearing a textured necktie or signature eyeglasses.

46

ANYTHING NEW COMING UP FOR MODAGE? Yes, we are implementing a new website and currently working on several pop up bridal fashion-inspired events this Fall in the Washington, DC area. I think it’s so important to educate and provide inspiration to couples on how to look, feel and dress on and before their wedding.

FROM THE BRIDE:

“Everyone told me that planning a wedding would be tough, but being the type A planner that I am, I thought I could handle it alone. Well after trying to get started for a little over 3 weeks in addition to managing my full time job and part time job coaching my dance team, I knew I needed help for the sanity of my relationship ;) We looked online for some top planners in the area and came across Table 6 Productions. After viewing their online portfolio I immediately knew that was the company I wanted to plan my wedding. After our initial planning meeting with Lauryn, our planner, I immediately was more calm knowing that I had someone that would be by my side every step of the way in the planning process. From the start we knew that we wanted a Winter Wonderland Wedding. I love rhinestones and bling but my now husband is more laid back and less flashy so I wanted to make sure his style would be represented too. After our first venue DIGITAL. ISSUE 02 . 2012

fell through we stumbled upon Lincoln Restaurant. We never even considered this venue before but after our initial meeting with Jeanhee we knew immediately that this was our place. It was the perfect mix of style, air, modern and rustic. Our planner helped us secure our vendors, which I have to say was a huge plus..I had no idea how much work and detail went into everything. With the help of Lauryn we also met Abby our photographer. After one meeting with Abby we knew she was the one. To me, your photos are one of the most important details of your wedding and Abby was amazing..I still tear up when I look at our photos. The sleepless nights, long to-do lists and periods of stress were all worth it when the church doors opened and I saw the love of my life waiting for me at the end of the aisle!

memories

“Wow it’s so hard to choose one...in addition to seeing him tear up as I walked down the aisle to him it would have to be our first dance. He agreed to take lessons with me and we danced to an original song we heard while on vacation. Being that I’m a professional dancer, he wanted to make sure he didn’t make me look bad on the floor. That intimate time dancing together for the first time as husband and wife is a moment I will never forget!”

the proposal...

“One weekend he asked me to go with him to buy an engagement ring for his friend to propose to his girlfriend. I raised an eyebrow and asked why his friend had to ask him to pick out an engagement ring. He said his friend was working in the rural parts of the country and would want to propose to his girlfriend the night he comes into town. I believed him and decided to go with him. During the shopping for the ring, he asked me to try the rings on because his friend's girlfriend has ďŹ ngers like mine. LOL. I decided to play along and totally believed this young man was shopping for my wedding ring with me... DIGITAL. ISSUE 02 . 2012

67

Few weeks passed by then I found out that his friend had actually proposed to his girlfriend with the ring we bought. I was totally gutted. I went over to his house mad and totally ready to tell him how insensitive it was for him to take me shopping for a wedding ring. I had called to say I was coming over and he said he was going to take a short nap and I should come straight to his bedroom. As I opened the door to his bedroom he wasn't there but I saw a huge box on his bed with a note on it 'OPEN ME'. I opened the box and I saw another box then another and another till I saw a tiny box. I opened the box and there it was. A very beautiful ring. I started blushing then he walked into the room grinning from ear to ear. He began this long speech about how beautiful I am, and how happy I make him. I had to interject and say "ask me already." He knelt down and asked, "Onyinye, will you be my wife?" www.munaluchibridal.com . DIGITAL.ISSUE 02. 2012

FROM THE BRIDE

“We always wanted a very small wedding because the engagement party was big. The wedding preparation was rushed and planned in 2 months. I even got my dress within the 2 months. We found the venue and vendors online. Gone are the days when you had to start planning for a wedding centuries before. We had never been to Capetown before but the venue got great revues and as adventurous as we are we decided to go with flow. We arrived in Capetown 5 days before our wedding. Our families and friends thought we were crazy but we did not want anything too serious. We just wanted a serene atmosphere with a beach and mountains and trees all in one place. We pulled it off with the help of the 12 Apostles wedding coordinator.” - ONYINYE DIGITAL. ISSUE 02 . 2012

Pewter with hints of red...cranberries and wrought iron trees in lieu of owers... Rochelle and Muhammad's winter wedding at the St. Regis in San Francisco was far from the norm in terms of decor, but perfectly chic nonetheless.

FROM THE BRIDE

“Our wedding was a labour of love with friends and family involved from start to finish. Our colours were pewter with hints of red. I am not a huge flower person and since we wanted a contemporary feel, we opted for wrought iron trees, cranberries and mood lighting. We wanted everyone to have fun and as a result, chose both a pianist and a DJ to help set the mood. The ceremony was held at the hotel as well. We initially wanted to hold it at the museum next door, but they were unable to accommodate our event. In hindsight, we are delighted we opted to have everything under one roof. The transition between activities was seamless!”

The typical bride we get is stylish, trendy, high-end and fashionable, looking for custom desserts that are unique and that show off her individual style.

Jenine Cravatt & Stephanie Franz of Cupcakes Couture Manhattan Beach INTERVIEW WITH STEPHANIE FRANZ EXEC. PASTRY CHEF FOR CUPCAKES COUTURE OF MANHATTAN BEACH

89

WE’D LOVE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR BEGINNINGS. WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND AND HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR WAY INTO THE PASTRY INDUSTRY? I have been working in the pastry industry for about 8 years, I started out at a 5 star resort in Laguna Beach, and it was there that I found my passion for all things chocolate. I then became the in house chocolatier for 4 years, I made everything out of chocolate - candies, garnishes and showpieces. I then went to work in Beverly Hills and focused in all things pastry. I never expected to be a cake decorator, I just fell into it when I started at Cupcakes Couture. The business opened as solely a cupcake store but we began getting so many requests for custom cakes that we realized it was necessary to reinvent the business model. Now that is the bulk of our business and I love it! It’s always something new and keeps me challenged. www.munaluchibridal.com . DIGITAL.ISSUE 02. 2012

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS PARTNER. HOW AND WHEN DID THE TWO OF YOU JOIN FORCES TO START CUPCAKES COUTURE? I met Jenine Cravatt in September 2009 through my sister. She was looking to open up a Cupcake Shop and had a business and marketing background and was looking for someone to partner with to handle the pastry and kitchen side of the business. We met and knew instantly we were a perfect match - we got along great and had the same vision of what we wanted Cupcakes Couture to become. We work very well together; she brings her business and fashion savvy outlook to the shop and I take that vision and create it into edible works of art. GREAT JOB ON CUPCAKE WARS! TELL US HOW YOU LANDED THAT AMAZING EXPERIENCE AND WHAT IT WAS LIKE. It has always been my ultimate dream to be on Food Network, I watched it growing up and it was definitely a huge factor in making me become the DIGITAL. ISSUE 02 . 2012

pastry chef I am today. They called and told me they were casting for the show and I immediately knew I could win this. Filming seemed to be way more stressful and nerve wracking then I ever expected but it was a great experience that I will never forget, not to mention the winning title! WHAT ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION? I get inspired from everything around me, most of it I get from fashion, lifestyle trends, seasonal colors, floral arrangements, wedding dress designs and patterns. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE CAKE FLAVORS? My favorite cake flavor would have to be our milk and cookies cupcake, which is a vanilla chocolate chip cake topped with rich chocolate frosting and a homemade cookie. I also love our Bailey’s Blackout cupcake - a chocolate cake soaked in Bailey’s filled with a milk chocolate praline crunch center and salted caramel frosting.

DO YOU PREFER FONDANT OR BUTTERCREAM? I deďŹ nitely prefer fondant, it is more versatile than buttercream and gives the cakes a much nicer look then buttercream. DĂŠcor pieces look more elaborate, it gives you more creative freedom to do intricate designs, and it holds up better at weddings and events. The type of work we do here at Cupcakes Couture almost always requires a fondant cake to get as detailed as possible.

92

FOR WEDDINGS, WHAT'S THE MOST POPULAR REQUEST FROM YOUR BRIDES? The most popular request we get is for custom dessert bars. They typically will include a small cake to cut with an assortment of our dessert items - mini cake pops, French macaroons, cheesecake bites and caramel corn, to name a few.

DIGITAL. ISSUE 02 . 2012

93

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR BRIDES WHEN CHOOSING A WEDDING CAKE? Keep it personal to your individual style, don’t worry about what all the guests want. A wedding should reflect the couple, so choose designs and flavors that you love. Personalized touches are great and give that WOW factor at any wedding.

www.munaluchibridal.com . DIGITAL.ISSUE 02. 2012

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD COUPLES ORDER THEIR WEDDING CAKES? Once the couple has selected their color scheme and overall theme of the wedding they should reach out about their cake and desserts. About 6 months ahead of time is good, but the sooner the better! We want the couples to come in having a good idea of the style of their wedding so we can create your desserts with that in mind. I would do some research before the tasting to figure out if you would like a wedding cake, cupcake tower or dessert bar. Gather ideas and inspiration online to give your bakery a better idea of what look you are going for. WHAT ARE THE TRENDS FOR CAKE DESIGNS AND SWEETS THIS YEAR? I am starting to see that brides like to include lace details not only on their dress, but also on their cake to give it an elegant touch. I am also noticing lots of wood/grain colors and textures, as well as watercolor designs on cakes and desserts. It’s always a nice touch to take your wedding dress and replicate it in a cake form whether it be ruffles, lines or lace applique.

94

WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU? We are currently working on securing deals to be the exclusive cake provider for select venues around Southern California. We are also continuing to broaden our product range to add new unique products that can be shipped nationwide. Our current most popular items are our Cupcakes in a Jar and Cupcake Pushpops. They allow us to create our signature cupcakes with a fun twist that can be enjoyed by people around the country. By shipping nationwide and providing our desserts to numerous retail outlets we are building a brand to be recognized around the world.

FROM THE BRIDE: “I knew early on what I wanted my wedding to look like. Both of my sisters had very traditional weddings and I knew mine would be slightly off-beat and truly reflect the characters of my fiance and I. I liked the idea of a shabby-chic/rustic theme. I had approximately a year to plan and I started immediately. I wanted an outdoor wedding and reception and I wanted it to be beautiful and rustic. Orcutt Ranch was exactly that. I wanted long rectangle tables at the reception as opposed to the traditional round tables.”

Kristin Sonderman and Efosa Ojomo had a very important first conversation: they discussed their mutual love for Africa and their need to positively impact the world’s most vulnerable. Amazingly, after that first conversation, Kristin knew without a doubt that she had found the man created just for her. Efosa would take a little more time to make the realization, but once he knew, he really knew! Now, Kristin and Efosa are set to change the world together. The couple’s dazzling Nigerian and American wedding ceremony is a vision in cultural fusion.

113

www.munaluchibridal.com . DIGITAL.ISSUE 02.2012

114

FROM THE BRIDE It was very important that our wedding was a reflection of our different cultures. To do this, we combined a traditional Nigerian ceremony and a "western" Christian ceremony. When we decided to do this, we had to make sure we had all the things necessary for the Nigerian part of the celebration. We had to find a Nigerian DJ, a catering company that would cook Nigerian food, and a host of other things. We were able to get a lot of things from Nigeria and that helped limit how much we had to find in the U.S. Efosa's family graciously brought all the clothes and jewelry, and his aunt agreed to be the M.C for the Nigerian part of the ceremony so that helped a lot with planning. Fos' mother and aunt picked out my Nigerian dress which I saw just a few days before the wedding...and I LOVED IT, It was flown in from Nigeria and custom tailored for me. There was also something so DIGITAL.ISSUE 02.2012 . www.munaluchibridal.com

115

special about his family being such an intricate part of the whole process, even though they were an ocean away. As part of a traditional Nigerian ceremony, people eat while the ceremony is happening, so when we were picking a place to have the wedding we knew the whole wedding/ceremony/ reception was going to happen all in one place. For this, we chose Cuvee, a champagne bar, with a loft- style atmosphere in the third ward of Milwaukee. It is such a simple and elegant spot. For food, we wanted to support a local business, but also wanted a company that could cook Nigerian and American dishes. Zilli's was the perfect combo. Their team was impressive in the way they attended to our multicultural needs. www.munaluchibridal.com . DIGITAL.ISSUE 02.2012

116

FOR PHOTOGRAPHY, there was only one photographer in the WORLD that I (Sugarleaf Photography), someone whose website and blog I had been glued to for years because of her incredible gift of capturing moments in a way that I have never seen before in my life... And also someone who I knew would understand Efosa and I, and that we would feel comfortable with. Luckily for us, Lexia Frank, had a" Giving Back contest" to a couple that was having a multi-cultural wedding, and she was going to do a wedding for free, so of course, we applied...and actually won!!! It was truly the best gift we received... and one that just keeps giving. As far as my "American white dress" that was something that my mom and I did together. We traveled to a small town in rural Wisconsin to a clearance dress store and walked away with a dress that I loved :) As for owers...

117

because we weren’t going to have an aisle, or have a 'wedding party' we ended up having Zilli's put together simple centerpieces for a few of the tables, and that was it:) For the invitations, a good friend of mine is an amazing graphic designer, and so she made our incredible invites and program for the wedding ( we deďŹ nitely needed something to explain to everyone what was going on!) And for all of the planning, my sister, Angie, and my mother were amazing... I was in medical school, and was feeling a little overwhelmed, so they both did an incredible job basically planning and taking care of everything!

In addition to the wedding being simple, we wanted to honor our families. The wedding incorporated so many components that brought honor to all our family members present. We saw that day as not just a union of two people, but a union of two families and

ultimately, two cultures. Efosa and I are very blessed to have all the things we have so we wanted to let people know that we were grateful for their friendships and the blessings they had poured in our lives. SPENDER VS. SAVER 5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WORK

by TIFFANY “THE BUDGETNISTA” ALICHE

So you’ve fallen in love and all is right with the world, until you realize that one of you is a SPENDER, while the other is a SAVER. Incompatible financial habits can put a strain on any relationship, but this need not be your fate. Spenders and Savers can co-habitate successfully, they just need to know how. Here are 5 ways to make the SPENDER/SAVER relationship work…

1) CREATE A FUN FUND: Set aside money in a cookie jar, shoebox, savings account or money market fund. You and your Boo should decide how much money you want to save each month in the FUN Fund. Once the fund reaches the cap that the two of you agree upon, take turns deciding how it will be spent. You may choose a spa day on your turn and he may choose game tickets. The purpose of the FUN Fund, is to allow the Saver and the Spender to do what they do best, as well as enjoy a guilt free splurge on occasion.

124

2) AUTOMATE YOUR SAVINGS: Automation is the new discipline and is a useful tool, especially for the Spender. Whether you are the Spender or the Saver, do yourself a favor and automate your monthly savings. I suggest choosing an online bank account with no check writing abilities or debit card access (use bankrate.com to help you choose the best one). Choosing an online bank means that you’ll have to wait 3-5 business days to withdraw any money. The Spender will be forced to think twice about dipping into your savings, giving The Saver time to talk them out of it. 3) $20 DATE NIGHT: Impossible you say?! I think not… A couple times a month, challenge each other to plan the best Date Night that $20 can buy. One of my favorite frugal finds is a local chain restaurant. After 10pm on weekdays, most drinks are $5 and appetizers are ½ off. Sometimes the entire bill comes to $15! Not sure were to start? Try Groupon and Living Social deals. Spenders, even your Saver can’t object to a $20 date once or twice a month…

DIGITAL. ISSUE 02 . 2012

4) THE B WORD: I know, I know, no one likes a budget, but having one is essential, especially in a Spender/Saver relationship. It’s critical that you both have a clear picture of what your money is doing. A budget will help the Spender and the Saver understand why certain decisions about money can or cannot be made. Creating a budget is not as hard as you think. Use technology to your advantage to set it up, then automate it (saving, bills, retirement, everything!). Make sure to set aside money for both spending and savings, to satisfy both your financial personalities. 5) CAP THE KIDS: Much to the Savers dismay, I’m sure your kids just love the Spender. Unfortunately, constant splurging on unnecessary items for kids when they’re younger, not only takes from their future, it also teaches them poor money habits. Get your kids a Money Jar and contribute to it weekly/biweekly/monthly. The Money Jar is where their allowance, birthday, holiday and all other bonus money should go. Teach your kids to set aside a minimum of 10% of all of the money that they receive in a savings account in the bank. Instruct them to put the 90% left over into their Jar. The next time your child begs you to buy them some new, unnecessary item, point to their Money Jar. The beauty of this system is that you no longer have to decide whether to say yes or no to their nonessential, financial requests. How much money your child does or does not have in their Jar, will answer that question for you.

The Spender/Saver relationship can be a profitable one if you’re both willing to compromise and communicate. The Spender can help the Saver live in the moment and enjoy life a little more, and the Saver can help the Spender become more responsible and provide security and stability.

Live richer,

tradition FROM THE BRIDE

“Our traditional Nigerian wedding in Lagos, Nigeria was absolutely spectacular and it was all thanks to my wonderful amazing mother with exquisite taste. I was still in London and my husband in Holland and neither of us went back home to Nigeria until about a month before our wedding date. So my mum did all the planning and arranging of our wedding and I couldn’t have planned it better myself. I had to trust her with one of the most important days of my life. This was the biggest challenge for me having my day planned for me, as I always thought I would be in complete control of my own wedding. My only stipulations were that I wanted to wear blue, the venue had to be elegant, and I didn’t want our wedding filled with people I didn’t know.

132

This is because Nigerian weddings tend to be big and more of a community affair. My mother exceeded my expectations, what she planned was so lovely. As for the guests, she managed 350 guests, which was small for her! The day itself was lovely. I guess if I were to sum up the theme of our wedding I would say it was lively and colourful and filled with love. It was a long day but we had so much fun. I loved my outfits, it was the first time I was wearing my own traditional clothes. I had three outfit changes...my favourite was the traditional bridal wear from my husband’s state. The coral beads were lovely and I just felt like an African princess. “

FROM THE BRIDE “Our wedding was a traditional Pakistani wedding which means that we had a Mehndi, the Nikah, and the reception. The Mehndi is often one of the most important pre-wedding rituals. It's a fun filled ritual where a henna artist applies mehndi to the bride's hands and feet. The designs are very intricate and often hidden within the mehndi pattern is the name or initials of the groom. The groom has to find his initials or name in the pattern on the night of the wedding. Our Mehndi was held on November 11th, 2011 on the eve of our wedding and the color theme was turquoise and

139

pink. We had our Nikah (religious ceremony) on November 12th, 2011. The Nikah is the Islamic marriage contract between a man and woman to live as husband and wife. It's a formal, binding contract and is considered integral to a religiously valid Islamic marriage. It outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom and bride. The marriage must be declared publicly and our was declared in front of all our family and friends. The formal reception is always after the Nikah has been performed and ours took place immediately after we were officially pronounced husband and wife.” www.munaluchibridal.com . “I am of Pakistani descent and in our culture the groom's family asks the bride's family for her hand in marriage. So, Victor and his family came to Maryland to ask my family for my hand and to obtain their blessings. My family loves Victor and they were very honored that he had gone to such great measure to comply with our traditions. After Victor gained my family's approval he proposed to me privately and I excitedly accepted! -NAHEED

memories

“The most memorable part of our wedding day was walking down the aisle. As a gift to me and Victor, my best friend hired a violinist and guitarist and asked them to play “Amazing” by Bruno Mars as I walked down the aisle. The song is the first one that Vick dedicated to me. I had no idea that it was the song that I was going to walk down the aisle to. Hearing the live instrumental as I took that walk was very emotional for me and a memory that I will cherish forever.” -NAHEED

CLAIRE PETTIBONE

Narrowing Down Your Honeymoon Destination by KATIE FREDERICK OF EVERAFTER HONEYMOONS

Most couples that reach out to me for help with their honeymoon have no idea where they should go. And I don’t blame them - there are so many incredible destinations it is hard to decide! I always encourage couples to spend some time discussing what they envision doing during their honeymoon. Talk about what your ideal day would be like. And talk about your favorite things to do together. Your honeymoon doesn’t have to mean relaxing on a beach- many couples choose to spend their honeymoons being very active and having really unique experiences together. I put together a variety of types of destinations to give you some ideas on the amazing places you could go!

158

ADVENTURE HONEYMOONS Many couples are very active, and want to be really adventurous during the day, and have romantic evenings. You can go zip lining in Costa Rica, ride elephants in Thailand, or learn to surf in Kauai!

FOOD & WINE HONEYMOONS For couples with a strong interest in great food and wine, their perfect honeymoon would consist of taking cooking classes, visiting wineries, and dining at fabulous restaurants. Some perfect honeymoon destinations would be Italy, the Napa Valley, or Mendoza in Argentina.

CULTURAL HONEYMOON DESTINATIONS Some couples see their honeymoon as an opportunity to experience a unique culture together, and have some cool new experiences. Visiting the national parks and small islands of Croatia, experiencing the beaches and jungles of Bali, or exploring the incredible city of Paris would certainly be a honeymoon to remember!

PRIVATE HONEYMOONS After the chaos of a wedding, many couples want to get away to somewhere really private and quiet where they can disconnect and relax. A private island resort in Fiji, a secluded hotel in Riviera Maya Mexico, or a small hotel in Belize would all be beautiful and relaxing destinations.

Visit www.everafterhoneymoons.com for more honeymoon resources.

“The idea and concept for the shoot came from Elizabeth's Cake Emporium, who in seeking inspiration for a collection of unusual cake designs, noticed that in recent catwalk shows of major labels, a recurring theme was the use of tribal and ethnic inspired fabrics and accessories.

178

From Burberry (who changed the lining of their classic trench coat to an African print), Marc Jacobs, John Galliano to Michael Kors, colourful and black and white geometric prints, tubular chokers and pendants were featured in numerous pieces seen on the runway. This shoot is a contemporary interpretation of Africa’s diverse and unique cultural heritage and an homage to the modern day African princess. Using colours ranging from dramatic black and white, metallic gold to shades of coral; traditional African fabrics, jewellery and distinctive styling techniques were used to create the most splendid images that are indeed ‘Out of Africa’.” ELIZABETH SOLARU
