Editors Note

Welcome to the March edition of the Busy Mums Magazine. I cannot believe we are already into Autumn and I am struggling to understand where my time is flying to. This magazine brings together two of my favourite things: Babies and Home Delivery (of groceries, meat and fruit). Ever since I was a child I wanted to be a mum and have a baby of my own. I think pregnancy offers a very exciting time to women and have enjoyed reading the articles in this issue surrounding baby names, maternity wardrobe staples and morning sickness advice. Home Delivery equally is an important topic to me as a busy mum of three; I simply detest going to the grocery store with children. I find the convenience and simplicity associated with getting meat or fruit and vegetables delivered irresistible and hope that the articles and information within this edition can answer any questions you may have around this topic. In addition, this week I have launched a cooking challenge (#mumscookingchallenge) and each month we will change the theme. So join us on our cooking challenge to learn new dishes, find easy alternatives or simply increase the variety of your meals. As the challenge is only for one dish per week it offers an achievable challenge starting with Vegetarian meal ideas. Find out more on www.mumsdelivery.com.au Wishing you a happy and healthy month! Lorraine P.S. We would love you to let us know what you think of the magazine, what you would like to see in future editions and encourage you to contact us with your stories.

Would you like to become a contributor for Busy Mums Magazine? We are always on the look out for stories and mums wanting to share their experiences & tips Stay Connected

Popular Baby Name Trends

Naming a baby is harder than ever. There are so many fantastic names to choose from - and parents are taking advantage! Lots of change in the top baby names lists The top 10 names for boys and girls now include many names that were very rare in Australia a generation ago. More international names are creeping into the top baby name charts. Isabella and Sienna were once considered Italian names but are in the top 10 for girls. Names that never previously been very common; such as Noah keep climbing the popularity charts. But it is also interesting to see the wide variety of names now chosen. Even the most popular names are less common. The most popular names are now less popular Back in the 1930s 20% of kids were named one of the top 5 names. So, if your grandpa was born in Australia there is about a 1 in 5 chance that his name is John, William, Robert, Ronald or Brian. These days only 5% of kids has a top 5 name. More parents want to give their child less common names. So that means even if you pick one of the most popular names, there won’t be that many kids in the playground with the same name.

Everything old is new again

Well not everything, but the popularity of many baby names goes in cycles. Ruby is a lovely example of this. Ruby was a very popular baby name around 1900. Then for nearly 100 years it was very uncommon. Some people like to choose a traditional baby name from their family - honouring parents or grandparents. Others go further back, seeking something retro, that doesn’t remind them of any specific ‘old person’.

4

So, what does all this mean for pregnant couples looking for a baby name? Pick whatever makes you happy. Tell people it is a new trend.

What’s trending at the moment?

Here are the top 10 names from Baby Name Game players this week. This is based on the favourite names of all the people who have recently played the Baby Name Game to choose a name for their baby. So, these are the future most popular names! Rank Boys Girls 1 Conner Emma 2 Luke Amelia 3 Nicholas Piper 4 Leo Bella 5 Tyler Ella 6 Mason Isabelle 7 Eli Layla 8 Alexander Willow 9 Landon Caroline 10 Finn Natalia Article from Kate Patterson who built the Baby Name Game with her husband while she was pregnant with her first child. The game worked so well for them that they have launched it to help other parents. The Baby Name Game is fun and simple way to get baby name inspiration and find a name that both you and your partner love. Available from http://monkie.biz for iOS

Do I need to attend Antenal Classes

Baby

When you are preparing for the birth of your baby, it can seem as if there are a hundred and one things to sort out. However, the one item on your ‘to do’ list that you should not ignore is attending antenatal classes. It is here that you can address your concerns about the birth, learn what to expect and pick up some tips on how to care for a newborn. It’s not just mums who can benefit, as these days most classes are tailored to include dads. A good class will help prospective parents gain the knowledge to have a positive and empowering birth. Antenatal classes normally begin at around 28-30 weeks of pregnancy and cover pregnancy, birth and baby related topics. Most great antenatal classes will cover: • Changes in Pregnancy • Complications in Pregnancy • Signs and Stages of Labour • Pain relief options including non-pharmacological options • Labour and Birthing positions • Fetal monitoring for low-risk and high-risk births • Induction of Labour • Vaginal Birth After Caesarean Section • Complications that may occur in the labour and birth • Different birth options for the delivery of your baby • Models of Care • Breastfeeding • Bathing and settling your newborn • Normal newborn behaviour for the first week of life • Immunisation choices and newborn tests • Emotions/postnatal depression All antenatal classes are run either by Midwives or Childbirth Educators often with Physiotherapy and Dietician involvement. Traditionally antenatal classes are run by your local hospital for 2 hours one night a week for 6 weeks or a weekend class on a Saturday or Sunday. A benefit of having a baby in this day and age is that you can now attend your Antenatal Classes Online. Women and Men are finding the convenience of watching the classes at their own pace in the comfort of their own home a major advantage, especially for families that have their partner working away from home. You can now take your antenatal classes together when your partner is home from work on his week off. Although most people feel glad they had attended antenatal classes, some people find them boring or a waste of time, where others decide not to go at all. Every decision is up to you but learning as much as you can about the journey ahead to me is one of the most important things you can do for you and your baby. As Midwives we usually ask if have you have attended antenatal classes when you come into the birthing rooms, there is a reason for this. It is so important to be educated before you commence in labour. Once you are in pain it is not the time to be talking about pain relief options. Of course you will say ‘YES’ to everything once in active labour but you will not know the risks involved with which pain relief option you choose. As a woman it is important to be educated on what can happen to your body in labour and birth, after all it is the biggest thing to happen to your body in your lifetime. 7 Maternity Wardrobe

Autumn is upon us. Women across the nation are pulling out their curve hugging sweaters, light weight jackets, and stylish boots. Fortunately, being pregnant no longer means having to sacrifice style, making dressing your bump for the autumn season not only easy, but also quite fun. The use of the darker tones associated with the fashion of this season can be extremely flattering for a blossoming tummy. As with assembling any stylish wardrobe, there are a few staples that are a must have in order to create a fashionable maternity ensemble for this season.

Sweater dresses A good sweater dress is an essential piece of any successful autumn wardrobe. It can be worn alone, with coloured tights, or a pair of leggings. You can pair them with slouchy flat boots for a more casual appeal, or add a slender heeled boot for a dressier look. Cardigans Cardigans are a necessity to get you through the autumn season. They’re small enough to fold into your bag or carry on

6

your arm in case you need them. They can be tossed over dresses, tanks, or tees. You can’t go wrong with an earthy tone, it’ll sure bring an autumnal feel to your outfit.

Jeans Autumn is the time of year when you put away your pastels and turn to deeper tones. Pick colours that can be worn with black as well as brown to add versatility to your wardrobe. Wine and jewel tones are the best for adding a touch of colour and spice to autumn attire. These modern looking skinny jeans would look fabulous with a chunky sweater, a patterned tee, or a blazer, depending on your agenda. Pants Wearing skinny legged pants during this season will allow you to show off your beloved boot collection. When shopping for pregnancy, you’ll want to choose pants by versatility and comfort in order to avoid spending an excessive amount on clothing that you won’t be wearing for very long. Soft enough to lounge in, they are still stylish enough for a night out when complemented with a blazer.

Staples for Autumn 2015

Baby

Tops Pick a few solid long sleeved tees in jewel tones (black, emerald, plum, sapphire) for an easy way to add excitement to your wardrobe. Wear these deep colours with black, grey, brown, tan, or denim for a perfect seasonal look. Add a collar necklace or a delicate printed scarf to dress them up or down, depending on your needs. If you prefer wearing light colours, you can wear a comfy, white, soft top like the one pictured above when you’re out and about. You can also wear a simple top with leggings and a pair of slouch boots for a relaxed vibe. Pair the same top with dress pants or a pencil skirt for an at-work look. Jackets Cooler temperatures come with the autumn season, which may require you to pull out a jacket for those chillier days. Finding a great jacket that fits the belly can be quite daunting, but fear not - there’s actually many beautiful pea coats available that are specifically tailored to fit the contours of a growing baby bump but still ooze classic elegance and style. Scarves Scarves are an easy way to spice up a simplistic outfit. Cheaper than buying extra tops, you can match multiple scarves with solid tops for a different look and feel on your outfit. Pair a dressier black scarf with a solid coloured top for an immediate flair. It is important, when shopping for autumn maternity wear, to remember that your body is going through a lot of changes. On top of carrying more weight, your blood and water density increases causing you to feel warmer than you usually would at this time of the year. Keep this in mind when shopping, and choose the breathable tops of appropriate weight. Use cardigans, blazers, and jackets to layer so that they can be easily removed in case you begin

7

to feel overheated. Working with these essentials will ensure you have a stylish maternity closet ready for the autumn. Andrea is a fashion blogger from Brisbane, Australia. Top 5 tips for Managing Morning Sickness With Danielle Steedman, Blackmores Naturopath Morning sickness is generally experienced as nausea and vomiting and is an early sign of pregnancy. Typically this occurs from the fifth or sixth week of pregnancy and lasts until the fifteenth or sixteenth week. As many women will testify, this can often be ‘all day sickness’ rather than just in the morning. Here are some top tips to ease these symptoms and stay healthy through the important first stage of your pregnancy. 1. Eat regularly: It is important to maintain balanced blood sugar levels. Low or fluctuating blood sugar levels can contribute to the intensity of nausea and vomiting. Pregnant women are encouraged to consume small regular meals, choosing from a range of fresh fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrates and lean protein. Some women find that eating before getting out of bed can ease nausea in the morning, even if it is just a plain biscuit. Snacks such as avocado on wholegrain bread or biscuits, raw, unsalted nuts and seeds, boiled eggs, banana and plain natural yoghurt are all nutritious choices that are gentle on a sensitive stomach (and nose!). Avoid sugars and refined carbohydrates as they are devoid of nutrients, exacerbate blood sugar fluctuations and can make you feel worse in the end. 2. Enjoy adequate sleep: Fatigue can exacerbate feelings of nausea, and it is particularly important to get plenty of sleep in the early stages of pregnancy. Many women experience low energy levels in the first trimester and need lots of early nights in order to get enough sleep. An afternoon nap can help to ease this overwhelming tiredness and subsequent nausea. Get your partner on board to support you in this and let unnecessary demands on your time slide so that you can get the sleep you need.

8

3. Ginger & vitamin B6: Preliminary research suggests that supplemental ginger and vitamin B6 may help to alleviate nausea and vomiting of early pregnancy. Vitamin B6 can be found in a good quality pregnancy multi vitamin and mineral that is designed to support the nutritional demands of pregnancy. Ginger can be taken as a herbal extract or tablet or even as a tea. A tea can be made by grating fresh ginger into boiling water and let it seep for 5-10 minutes (or to taste), strain and drink. This can be enjoyed throughout the day. If you decide to take these supplements it is always important to discuss this with your healthcare professional to ensure they are safe and appropriate for you. 4. Acupuncture: Pressure points on the meridians of the body may help to alleviate nausea and vomiting. It is worth consulting a qualified practitioner to treat you, who may be able to show you acupressure points you can use yourself with finger pressure. 5. Essential oils: Aromatherapy can be helpful to ease symptoms of morning sickness. Oils such as lavender, rose, chamomile and tangerine can be used in an oil burner or added to a massage oil or cream. You may like to consult a qualified aromatherapist to choose the most appropriate oil combination for you and the best way to utilise the oil effectively. Preparing for Baby: Organic Carpet Cleaning Expectant mothers are very excited as they wait for the arrival of their newborn baby. The nursery is all ready but the one thing a lot of people forget is to get their carpets and furnishings cleaned before baby arrives. Our furnishings hold lots of dust mites and bacteria, vacuuming alone does not get rid of all the dust. You need to have your carpets shampooed, deodorised and sanitised to refresh your furnishings again. It is suggested to have your carpets cleaned at least once every 12 months. By replacing harsh chemical based cleaning solutions with organic cleaning products, it will not only benefit you and your family with safe and healthy cleaning but also help the environment. It is safe for all the family including your pets. Organic products are free from harsh chemicals and developed using pure eucalyptus, rosemary and citronella essential oils. There are numerous benefits to cleaning with organic products. Below are included a small list of them:  No inhaling of dangerous, harsh and toxic chemicals  Healthier environment  Improvement in the air quality within the home  No damage to the surfaces  Give off pleasant natural smells  Superiorly cleans, disinfects and sanitises  100% naturally derived from plants  Contains no bleach, no perfumes, no palm oils  100% Australian made & owned!  Safe for everyone that suffer from allergies Article provided by Maryanne Muscat- Owner of Organic Carpet Cleaning http://organiccarpetcleaning.com.au/

Toilet Training Child Readiness Checklist • She can be dry for a couple of hours at a time • Her poos are regular and you can see a pattern in the time of day • She notices or gives you a clue that she is doing a poo or wee – usually toddlers stop what they are doing, crouch down or bends their knees, clutch their nappy area or sometimes even go and hide when she is doing a wee • She simply tells you or asks to be changed after she has done a wee or poo • She is keen to wear underwear or training pants • She may look for a little privacy when doing a wee or poo • She is able to follow simple directions like ‘sit down’, ‘quick let go’ • She wants to co- operate with mum giving instructions • She can walk well – as she needs to actually be able to get to the toilet in a hurry • She can pull pants up and down – she needs to be able to basically get dressed and undressed we will make it easy though with clothing that easy to remove while training, no need to make it trickier than it is! • She has a basic understanding of what the toilet is for • She wants to please mum or dad, and is not in the difficult ‘no’ stage as they want to see what you will do about it….. You don’t need any battles about toilet training! • She can sit quietly for short periods of time say 5 – 10 minutes to do a puzzle, read a book? She will need too on the potty. • She can tell you that she needs to go? Or notices she is doing a wee.

12

You don’t need every one of these points on the readiness checklist to be present however your toddler needs MOST. The more that are there, the more successful toilet training will be for both of you. ☺ Nicole’s Tip If your child isn’t ‘ready’ then it can be frustrating and discouraging. If in doubt? WAIT a little longer, read this list and think about it again. I suggest waiting 8 weeks then try again. Checklist provided by Nicole from babysmiles. com.au

Toilet training tips “Toilet training accidents can sting sensitive legs – especially eczema prone skin, I recommend patting on some natural cornstarch powder to comfort skin and dry up the excess moisture. Chamomile and lavender can also be calming and soothing.” Michelle Vogrinec – mum of three, Creator of GAIA Natural Baby & MD of GAIA Skin Naturals. “when going out and beginning toilet training, take a pair of nail scissors with you in your handbag. that way if theres an unfortunate accident in public , its easier to cut the undies off at the seams to remove them , than smudge all the mess down the legs while trying to get the undies off.” Victoria “Patience... lots of it !!” Natalie Murnane Nan swears by using positive words when changing nappies. We find our selves saying "ew yuck, stinky", Which causes them to be embarrassed to say they need to go, so we celebrate poo with "well done, good poo!". Kellee Higgins

“If it is not working, not progressing and you are just getting angry and frustrated…STOP! Wait a week and then start again. You will be amazed at the difference this will make and you can do this a number of times. It’s better to stop and wait than to get really angry & frustrated and potentially instil a sense of failure” Lorraine Salvi

“Wet wipes (the toilet paper flushable ones for kids) are a great way to encourage wiping, there also another way to wipe away aby anxiety of kids going to the loo at school” Aimee Tatham “When you first stop using nappies, do it slowly. Do it for a few hours on a day, and increase it as yours and your child’s confidence increases.” Kathryn Clayton

Toilet training in As you know toilet training a child can be a time of testing the patience of parents. It can be a time of upsets, disappointments, one step forward and two steps backwards. And sometimes toilet training can be a very long and drawn out experience and something that we as mums can dread. Wet and messy underwear, surprises left on floors and the thought of “will my child ever learn how to take him/herself to the toilet?” My daughters are now 23 and 20 years old. They were toilet trained when they were about 2-1/2 years old. And they were toilet trained in just one day! Everyone laughed at me when I told them about this amazing accomplishment. Mums at dinner parties looked blank and thought I was deranged when I wanted to share my enthusiasm, until weeks later they were ringing me up asking me how did I do it? How My Children Were Toilet Trained In Just One Day When Alicia, my oldest, was about ready to be toilet trained I didn’t really know what to do, apart from sit her on a potty and hope for the best. Then one day I was shopping with a friend whose children were teenagers, but, she had used a system for toilet training her children in just one day. And she told me, “it really worked!” Well the next week I invited her for coffee and sat her down and I asked her for all the specific details of what she had done. I wrote down her instructions, added and modified them, got myself ready and away I went … then toilet trained Alicia in just one day the following week. There were some things I had to get to prepare for this day. I needed a doll that would wee itself. A very sturdy potty chair with a pot that could be emptied and reinserted back into the chair was purchased. A lot of drinks, salty food and treats such as lollies, chocolates, mueslie bars and fruit. I also needed knickers for

14

Alicia that were about two sizes too big, wipe cloths and an apron with pockets. The Toilet Training Day On the morning of Alicia’s training day I arranged for no one to be home, I put a note on the door explaining that I wanted No Interruptions and turned on my answering machine and turned off my mobile phone. For the rest of the day I gave Alicia all my attention and followed the instructions of the toilet training plan. First I had Alicia learn how to teach the doll that wees to go to the potty chair. This gave her the idea of why and how to go to the toilet. She learnt how to get the doll to the potty in time, take down its pants, wait for the doll to urinate, pull up its pants, then have the doll empty the pot (with the fake urine) into the toilet then reinsert the pot into the potty chair. I also taught Alicia that the doll would be praised and enthusiasm and rewards given when the doll went to the potty-chair and weed. We also practiced what would happen if the doll wet itself. I then taught Alicia to go to the potty chair for herself. One of the things that I did here was to give her a lot of drinks so that she had plenty of opportunities to have to go to the toilet. I taught her one step at a time, how to get her pants up and down easily (having two sizes too big really helped here), how to sit on the toilet (potty chair) and relax until she either urinated or had a bowel action. How to wipe her self, pull up her knickers and empty the pot into the toilet and then reinsert it her self into the potty chair.

Rewards And Praise She received rewards as she was learning for correct behavior. She learnt what to do when she had an accident, how to go to the toilet when she was playing and how to get to the toilet when she was playing outside. Rewards and praise were given to her for having Dry Pants, particularly after she had got the hang of going to the toilet for herself. That night she did not wear nappies in bed, we left a night light on for her and the potty chair was near to her bed. The next day we celebrated with her and she was given a Certificate Of Accomplishment for being Toilet Trained.

1. Prepare your child by reading to him/her books such as “I Want My Potty” by Tony Ross and “Max’s Potty” by Harriet Ziefert or “All By Myself” by Dr Bill Gillham. Have your child watch members of his/her family go to the toilet, so that he/she can see what happens and how to do it. 2. Prepare the items you will need, such as large knickers, wipe cloths, a doll that wets itself and a sturdy type potty chair, or make your house toilet suitable with an insert seat and steps or a box for your child to stand on. 3. Allow one day uninterrupted to teach your child to teach the doll to go to the toilet and then teach him/her the steps involved to go to the toilet. 4. Praise your child enthusiastically whenever he/she does anything and clap and cheer when he/she actually urinates or does a bowel motion in the toilet and/or potty-chair. 5. At the end of the day when your child is successfully toilet trained or the next day have a celebration and give your child a Certificate of Accomplishment. 1. Begin by giving your bonnet a coat of brightly coloured paint. 2 Assemble your bonnet and secure with glue. Allow to dry. 3 For a hat band, cut a length of crepe streamer and wrap it around your bonnet. Attach with glue. 4 You may also like to add a bow, if so, simply cut another length of streamer, tie a bow and attach to your bonnet with glue. 5 Cut two large ear shapes from foam. Cut two smaller pieces of foam for the inside of your ears. Attach with glue. Allow to dry. 6 To decorate your bonnet with tissue paper flower, stack six tissue paper squares neatly together. Fold the squares like an accordion until you reach the end of the square. 7 Twist one end of a chenille stem around the middle of the folded tissue paper squares. This will hold the flower together. 8 Round off both ends with a pair of scissors. Now, carefully spread out the pleats and separate each layer of tissue paper by pulling them towards the middle. Alternate each side, pulling one layer up at a time.

Easter Hot Cross Buns INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup Milk (of choice) 1/2 cup Apple Sauce (see recipe below) 2 1/4 teaspoon Yeast 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup 2 Eggs 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract 1 teaspoon Lemon zest 1 teaspoon Orange zest 1/2 cup + 1 Tablespoon Coconut Flour 1 1/4 cup Almond Meal 1/2 cup Arrowroot (plus1/4 cup extra for kneading) 1 teaspoons Salt 1 teaspoon Mixed Spice 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Dash of Nutmeg 1 cup Dried Mixed Fruit (can substitute for sultanas or currents) Cross Paste: 1 Tablespoon Almond Meal 3 Tablespoons + 1 teaspoon Arrowroot 2 Tablespoons Water Glaze: 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup 2 Tablespoons Water 1 Tablespoon Gelatin Dash Of Mixed Spice Apple Sauce: 4 apples, peeled and cut into small pieces 3/4 cup water INSTRUCTIONS: Hot Cross Buns: • Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat to a lukewarm temperature. • Put the maple syrup, yeast, salt, apple sauce, vanilla extract, zests and eggs in a bowl of a kitchen stand mixer with a dough hook attached. Pour the warm milk into the bowl and turn the mixer to low. (if you don't have a dough hook attachment use a normal beating attachment)

20

• Mix until fully combined (1-2 minutes) • In a separate bowl sift the dry ingredients together. • Add the dry ingredients to the bowl with the hook attachment and mix until smooth (4 min). You may need to scrape the edges of the bowl 2-3 times as it is a very sticky mixture. • Add the mixed fruit and mix until incorporated. • Remove the dough from the bowl and place on a wellgreased bench. • Add the extra arrowroot and knead the dough until the extra arrowroot is combined. • This can be quite messy as the dough is sticky and not easy to knead. • It helps to keep your hands and the bench wellgreased. • Knead only for 2 minutes (or until you start going crazy at the sticky mixture). • Place the dough into a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a cloth and place in a warm place for 1 hour. Ideally this will be in a sunny spot, but if the weather is against you go to plan B or C. View in full recipe online • After 1 hour, evenly divide the dough into 10 pieces. • Form each piece into a ball and place on a lined and greased baking tray. • Cover the tray with a cloth and place back in the warm place for 90 minutes. • After 75 minutes preheat the oven to 175C/350F. • Make the Cross Paste (see recipe below). • Pour the paste into a ziplock bag or piping bag. Cut a small slit in the bottom of the bag and make a cross on each bun. • The paste is quite thick and will need to be used as soon as it is made. Resist all temptation to water it down too much as it will be too runny then and not form a cross on the bun. • When the oven is at temperature, place the Hot Cross Buns on the middle rack and bake for 35 minutes. • At 30 minutes make the Glaze (see the recipe below). • After 35 minutes remove the Hot Cross Buns from the oven and immediately baste with the hot glaze. • The Hot Cross Buns are best eaten within 36 hours of baking and taste better when warmed or toasted. Indian Chicken Kebabs There are so many tasty uses for these chicken kebabs. They’re great to hand around as party nibbles. For dinner I like to make them into a tortilla wrap with salad leaves. And any leftovers are great to pack for lunch the next day. Serves 4 Marion’s Kitchen Butter Chicken, which includes: • BUTTER CHICKEN PASTE • DRIED CHILLI & SPICES • CRUSHED TOMATOES 4 Tbsp vegetable or canola oil 1 onion, finely chopped ¼ cup natural yoghurt 500g (about 1 lb) chicken mince 12 bamboo skewers lime wedges to serve roughly chopped coriander (cilantro) to serve STEP 1 First, make a tomato and yoghurt dipping sauce. Heat 2 Tbsp of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add onions and the DRIED CHILLI & SPICES and cook for 3-4 minutes until onion is soft. Add CRUSHED TOMATOES and simmer for another 5 minutes to thicken. Remove from heat and set aside until completely cool. Remove and discard cinnamon stick and bay leaves from the tomato mixture. Stir through the yoghurt and set aside in the fridge until ready to serve. STEP 2 In the meantime, place chicken mince and the BUTTER CHICKEN PASTE in the bowl of a food processor and process until well combined. Transfer mixture to a large bowl. Mould 2 heaped tablespoons of the chicken mixture onto each skewer. Cover and set aside in the fridge. STEP 3 Heat the remaining 2 Tbsp of oil in a large non-stick frying pan over medium heat (you could also cook the kebabs on a barbecue). Cook kebabs for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Serve with tomato and yoghurt dipping sauce, lime wedges and a sprinkling of coriander.

Prawn & Noodle Stir-fry This is another useful way to create something special from my Marion’s Kitchen San Choy Bow kit. Usually you would serve the san choy bow stir-fry in lettuce leaf cups but I often add more vegetables and serve it on it’s own. Serves 4 Marion’s Kitchen San Choy Bow, which includes: • VERMICELLI NOODLES • SAN CHOY BOW SAUCE • WATER CHESTNUTS • CRUSHED PEANUTS 2 Tbsp vegetable or canola oil 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped 1 long red chilli, finely sliced 600g (about 1.3 lb) peeled and deveined prawns 2 bunches bok choy, quartered lengthways 2 spring onions (scallions), ends trimmed, cut into 3cm strips STEP 1 Place the VERMICELLI NOODLES in a heatproof bowl and cover with boiling water. Leave to soak for 3 minutes until soft. Drain noodles and rinse with cold water. Cut into short strips using scissors or a knife. Set aside for later. STEP 2 Heat oil in a wok or frying pan over high heat. Add garlic and chilli and stir-fry for a minute. Add prawns and stir-fry for 2 minutes until almost cooked. Add bok choy and my SAN CHOY BOW SAUCE and stir-fry for another minute. STEP 3 Open up those crunchy WATER CHESTNUTS, drain away the liquid and pop them into the pan along with your softened vermicelli noodles. Toss to combine, then remove from heat. STEP 4 Sprinkle your stir-fry with the CRUSHED PEANUTS and sliced spring onion and serve.

Home Delivery

Fruit & Veg Delivery Vs. One of the questions surrounding online grocery shopping and getting fruit and vegetables delivered is whether or not you are getting value for your money. In an effort to show the value of online shopping the MumsDelivery team received a $45 box of fruit delivered from The Green Gorilla, documented the contents and then compared the cost to that of getting the same fruit delivered from a major supermarket. Here is what we received in our fruit delivery box from The Green Gorilla 1 Punnet of apples 4 pears 4 onions A 120g pack of Spinach leaves 1kg bag of carrots 1 red capsicum 1 x bok choy bunch 3 x lebannese cucumbers 3 x zucchini 1 x 400g Packet of beans 1 x 200g Packet of snow peas 5 x vine tomatoes 1 bunch of Spring onions 1 Iceberg lettuce The total cost of the box is $45 including delivery. The Green Gorilla (like most fruit and veg delivery services) offers set delivery days for areas and uses a Styrofoam box to keep the fruit fresh. He delivers the fruit at night and I unpack the fruit in the morning. I get great satisfaction as I mentally mark an item off my To Do list by 7am without leaving the house and using only minimal effort. When shopping online at the supermarket, the overall price of the items came within $1 of the box. However when I tried to checkout, I was advised that I hadn’t reached the $50 minimum order requirement for home delivery. In addition to this there was a $10 delivery charge and I couldn’t get delivery for the next day and depending on their schedule some of the time slots for the day after were taken too. From undertaking the process above; I believe the benefits of getting your fruit and vegetables delivered are: • You can customise what you receive in your box or get a general box that doesn’t include the items you don’t like. • You can order your items up to 24 hours prior to delivery. • You are supporting a local business, generally a family • In terms of quality, a good business will value repeat customers and will want you to come back for more, so they are likely to provide you with good quality items. • Boxes come in all sizes to suit your family requirements • The fruit and vegetable service providers offer friendly customer service to help you determine the right size box.

Supermarket Delivery

When looking to start getting fruit and vegetables delivered I recommend getting a mixed box to start and based on the quantities received and your family requirements, you can then determine whether you need more or less and how often you wish to receive delivery. I have been receiving a fortnightly box of fruit and vegetables from the Green Gorilla for over a year now and we have never had a problem. They have never missed a delivery nor have we had any quality issues. For me, the biggest benefit of getting your fruit and vegetables delivered is the time and effort saved. You do not have to take your children to the store, pick decent quality fruit or carry it to and from the car.

Save Money with Groceries online If you like planning in advance or working to a budget, you are going to love online grocery shopping. Apart from the convenience of having the goods delivered to your door, online grocery shopping offers the ability to know exactly what you are going to spend with the added convenience of being able to choose times or delivery methods to suit your needs. Here are some of the advantages online grocery shopping offers those on a budget to sticking to meal plans. • Getting what’s on the list. If you are big on creating monthly or weekly meal plans or are big on shopping lists then this guarantees that you will get everything on the list as you will not leave the list at home or forget anything. • Budgeting. If you only have a certain budget you wish to spend on the shopping for the week, online grocery shopping is ideal as you can see your subtotal as you add items to the cart. This gives you greater control to stay within the budget by keeping essentials and eliminating non essentials if required. • Delivery fee. You may question how online grocery shopping can be good for your budget if you get charged a delivery fee, however you will find that the delivery fees are nominal normally around $10. If you sit down and consider the value of your time in going to the shop, the cost of your petrol in getting there and back and then the effort of undertaking the shopping, you will soon realise that $10 is a great investment in gaining extra time for other things you need to be doing. Also if you have to return to the store because you forgot any items, then you would’ve spent more than $10 in petrol, time and effort. • With the ability to ‘favourite’ certain items you can even save time and effort in purchasing online as you can access and add your favourites to the cart in a matter of seconds. Search the MumsDelivery directory to find an online grocery store that delivers to your area.

Meat Delivery

Advantages of Meat Delivery I love getting meat delivered to my door and think that utilising a meat delivery service has a number of advantages for busy families: 1. You get Good quality produce at a reasonable cost. Online butchers and meat delivery services get their produce direct from the farms and then package it to send to their customers. Most meat delivery services offer good quality, hormone free meat that tastes nice and doesn’t cost a fortune. 2. Save Time! No more having to run back and forth to the shops and you can buy as much or as little as you like as frequently or infrequently as you need. With 3 young children I like avoiding the shops whenever possible, so I place a big order and store it all in the freezer, ready to be defrosted for meals as required. Placing a big order also means that you save on delivery fees. 3. Greater Variety. Often online butchers can provide a greater variety of products than your local butcher or supermarket. This is great when trying to find particular meats that are not everyday items. 4. Less Effort. There is no need to drive, queue or go out of your way after a long day at work. 5 -10 minutes on the computer and your order can be placed. Each order after your first is easier as you already have a profile and know what they offer and what you want. 5. Meal planning. For families who like to plan their meals for the week, you could order the meat to accommodate this on a weekly/fortnightly basis. • Restaurant quality meat, at wholesale prices, delivered to your door • All new customers automatically receive 20% off your first order and 15% off your second order • Money back guarantee. • If you are tired of supermarket quality meat, nobody can offer premium quality meat cheaper than butcherman. • Sydney’s best online butcher Winner of My Business awards for best E-Business
