I Hermēneus Conference. Corpus-Based Translation and Interpreting Studies Department of Translation and Interpreting of Soria (University of Valladolid), 26 and 27 March 2014
Presentation In 2014 the Project Hermēneus will celebrate its fifteenth birthday. Along with the emblematic Hermēneus Journal, the project has more than demonstrated its maturity. Conceived in the spirit of general interest, it has facilitated the dissemination of work in many subareas of Translation and Interpreting Studies, while not forgetting the necessary relation to other related disciplines. For this reason, the Project Hermēneus wishes to sponsor a series of conferences that will encourage dialogue and contact among young researchers and veterans in the subareas of Translation Studies which are currently in vogue in Spain. Some of the researchers in these subareas are professors in the Department of Translation and Interpreting of Soria who have been at the helm of hermeneutics during these years. The first conference will be centered on the use of corpus as a linguistic resource applied to the Studies of Translation and Interpreting. The Project Hermēneus wishes to contribute its grain of sand to the rise of this prestigious line of research, which already has world‐wide events, such as Using Corpora in Contrastive and Translation Studies (Zhejiang 2008, Edge Hill 2010). Research in corpus‐based Translation Studies was established in the 1990s. Laviosa (2011) believes that corpus‐based Translation Studies have matured to the point that it is now possible to carry out the aspiration formulated in its origins: establish a bridge between linguistics and cultural studies.
