10 only one daughter at home. It also shows three young boys under the age of ten. These boys would have been grandchildren as Sarah was to old to have had children that young. Sarah Arvin Thornton died sometime between 1821 and 1823. There is a Court Order dated, 12 December 1817, in the North Carolina State Archives for the support of Sarah for one year from the estate of William Thornton, deceased. Between 1818 and 1821, after the death of William, Sarah moved from Surry County to Iredell County, North Carolina. Iredell was the next county south of Surry County. It can be assumed that she went to live with her daughter, Elizabeth, and Elizabeth's husband, Richard Shelly, who lived in Iredell. Elizabeth and Richard made a deed to her brother, John Thornton, 23 December 1818, for her share in her parents estate. Elizabeth signed herself as "Betsy" in the deed. On 22 September 1821, Sarah Arvin Thornton, made a deed to one-tenth of her dower rights in the estate to her son, James Arvin Thornton, of Jefferson County, Tennessee, for $5.00. The deed stated that she lived in Iredell County. Most of Sarah and William's children eventually moved away from Surry County. William Thornton died intestate about 1816. The estate of Sarah and William was settled about 1823. In that year their children signed a petition for settlement. The names of all the Thornton children and their spouses were on the petition. Sarah's name was not on it, so she had died before 1823. The names and marriages of Sarah and William's children follows. Birth and death dates are not known with the exception of Nancy Thornton Arvin. =====================================
