A Liverpool estate agents is set to do its bit for charity when staff take part in a sponsored walk for Dog’s Trust. Staff from Whitegates’ West Derby branch will be trekking through Croxteth Country Park on Sunday 25 November at 1pm with their furry friends to raise money for the charity. And not only will the agents’ staff be taking part, they’ll be enlisting their friends and families too. The idea for the walk came from senior sales negotiator Kevin Williams. He says: “We’ve recently adopted two dogs from Dogs Trust. We fell in love with them and would have loved to adopt more but we couldn’t really manage three dogs so instead we’re going to do this walk and hopefully raise a lot of money for Dogs Trust to give something back.” Dogs Trust is the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Every year it cares for around 16,000 dogs through 17 rehoming centres. It also runs dog welfare projects in the UK and Overseas. 10TH BIRTHDAY AUCTION RAISES £2.5M Merseyside property auctioneer Sutton Kersh raised over £2.5 million at its penultimate property auction of the year. The event took place on October 25 at the Liverpool city centre Marriott Hotel in Queen Square.

From the initial catalogue of seventy-eight lots, three were withdrawn and five sold prior. The remaining lots attracted a packed out auction room and strong bidding. A total of 50 lots have sold to date with more sales to complete post auction. The best selling lot of the day was Bleak House Cottage on Chapel Lane in Bootle. The premises comprise a threebedroom Sutton Kersh team cottage,

two stables, outbuildings, gardens and a paddock. Planning permission exists for the construction of seven dwellings on the site, which extends to approximately 0.8 acres. Guided at £150,000 the vacant residential property attracted a high number of bidders before selling in the room for £200,500. Cathy Holt, auction manageress at Sutton Kersh, says: “This auction marked our tenth birthday and it was great to celebrate the occasion with a packed out auction room and a good result.” Sutton Kersh is now accepting instructions for its final auction of the year, which will take place on the December 6.

Stylist to the stars Mark Woolley regularly works with some of the biggest names in showbiz. He's a favourite of TV star Gok Wan and singer Paloma Faith and this month brings his 'Electric' salon to Liverpool, his fifth salon to date. We caught up with Mark to find out what he has planned and why he's blown away by Liverpool ladies' style.

INTERVIEW BY CHRISTINE TONER How does it feel to be opening your fifth salon? I can't tell you how excited I am. My original dream was to have my own salon and I've just been so lucky to have the opportunity to grow from one to five salons so quickly, although we plan never to grow too quickly or to have more than 10 Electric salons. It really helps to have a loyal team around you – it is the team’s passion and commitment that makes the brand. I’m really excited about being given this opportunity to be associated with Harvey Nichols. Why did you choose Liverpool? It was more a case of Liverpool choosing me. My product range has been a best seller in Harvey Nichols for a while so

the guys there were very familiar with the Electric brand and approached me about the Liverpool opening. As a lifelong Liverpool fan I was over the moon to actually have an official excuse to be here regularly! Liverpool has an unrivalled love for all things beautiful and a character and vibe that is highly regarded by the worlds best brands. What do you think of Liverpool girls in terms of hairstyles? To be honest the

glamour has blown me away – it’s like arriving in the land of Brigitte Bardots back in the 1960s/70s. Everyone seems to have that 'just stepped off a film-shoot bedroom scene' hair and the eyelashes are the biggest and best in the country. I can’t wait to see all the big sexy blow-dries stepping out the Electric salon. We're really lucky that we attract a mass of celebs in our other salons and I hope Liverpool won't be any different. I’m currently on location with Gok Wan and I love styling Paloma Faith too so hopefully they'll be popping in from time to time. Have you encountered any diva behaviour? Oh the odd moment but my lips are sealed! What are the big trends in hairstyles for this autumn/winter? Autumn is an absolute favourite for hairdressers with clients looking for colour changes, daring cuts, glamorous blow-dries, flashes of warm hues and slices of fiery panels added to their dos.

Tough Mudder: Your Move’s very own designer is currently in training to compete in one of the toughest events on the planet to raise money for a local charity. Rob Whyte will join a team of 30 local fundraisers taking on the gruelling Tough Mudder course in Cheshire in an attempt to raise £2,000 for Queenscourt Hospice in Southport. The demanding 12 mile assault course was designed by British Special Forces and comes complete with 27 obstacles. These range from walking through waist

deep mud, climbing over huge walls, jumping into freezing cold lakes and running through live electric wires. Rob says: “We're supporting an amazing local Southport charity and donations big and small are very welcome. All of our team has stepped up their training and we all can't wait to get stuck in. Hula hoop fitness craze A local fitness teacher is bringing the hula hooping craze currently sweeping America to Liverpool. Jules Portsmouth runs up to ten classes a week at gyms and centres across Liverpool. She began giving classes two years ago and says that the popularity of hula hooping is down to the

fact that it makes exercising fun. Jules, from South Liverpool, says: “Anyone who picks up a hula hoop in my class just falls in love with it. Hula Hooping burns up to 500 calories an hour and can tone muscles and put a smile on your face. You would be amazed at the work out hula hooping gives you.”

S

ue Weir is a selfconfessed fussy eater. The director of Amazon Management Services (AMS) admits she’s difficult to please when it comes to culinary delights. Having heard the glowing reputation Miller & Carter has gained since it opened in 2011 though I’m confident we’re on to a winner when I meet Sue there for lunch. The steakhouse in Liverpool’s stunning Albert Dock prides itself on its exacting standards and its passion, which means we can be sure we’re in for a good meal. It’s an approach Sue can relate to. At AMS the team is passionate about helping landlords and tenants work together. When the company was set up in Maghull in 2008, its aim was to take the hassle out of rental properties for both parties. “All these programs on TV make being a landlord look so straightforward,” says Sue. “You buy a property, refurbish it, move someone in and then all live happily ever after. Unfortunately it doesn’t always work out that way for landlords and tenants.” AMS manages properties for landlords and solves any issues for tenants. It has around 250 landlords and tenants on its books across Liverpool. As we order, an 8oz fillet steak for me and a steak burger for Sue, she tells me about the company’s core philosophy, which has kept business booming over the last four years. “We believe in a fair approach to solving conflicts and to price,” says Sue who has a background of working in accounts across the city and even for the Liverpool Archdiocese, before setting up AMS. The rental agent charges 10% on rent collected from properties as a management fee but if rent isn’t collected then there is no

charge. Our food soon arrives and looks as impressive as we’d hoped. My steak is huge, a prime cut of Ashdale beef sourced from a West Country farm, perfectly cooked with an appetizing signature Miller & Carter side salad wedge, drizzled in a classic cocktail sauce. Sue’s steak burger is cooked exactly to her requirements and comes with a side of chips. Tucking in, she tells me that one of the most important things for her when setting up Amazon was that it would be unbiased in its approach to filling properties. As such, it considers all types of tenants, welcoming those in receipt of housing benefit and disability living allowance. There is also an option on offer for those people who want to move but who can’t shoulder the initial expenditure of moving, which Sue says is becoming more expensive. “It’s the best part of a thousand pounds to move into a new property and a lot of people haven’t got that kind of money,” says Sue. AMS charges a £75 administration fee for new tenants moving into one of its properties and can allow tenants to pay their deposit and rent in installments to soften the blow. As we wrap up our meal and brace ourselves to leave the warming surroundings of the Miller & Carter Steakhouse for the distinctly chillier atmosphere of the Albert Dock, Sue is keen to stress that AMS is sensitive to

HALLOWEEN LANTERN FESTIVAL LIGHTS UP SEFTON PARK pectacular sculptures lit up Sefton Park at this year’s Halloween Lantern Festival. Crowds flocked in droves to see creations by French surrealists Delirium Lumens including a floating dreamer lantern, a field of floating fire flowers, dream doctors and fortune tellers. Projections and illuminations on the grass of the park added to the magical feel of the night which delighted young and old alike. The lantern parade saw hundreds of people march through the park showcasing their very own lantern creations. Even rain showers couldn’t dampen people’s spirits as this year’s festival went off with a bang.
