William Larkin to advocate for continued student aid. The freshmen successfully completed their first-semester service project, hosting 30 high school-age students in collaboration with the Newburgh Liberty Partnerships Program. The women’s tennis team captures an NCAA bid. Residence Life hosts 119 events, covering topics such as personal safety, alcohol awareness, community outreach and wellness. Students raise funds to feed approximately 170 people in Newburgh, and create 36 boxes of supplies to donate to victims of Hurricane Irene. For the first time in the college’s history, the resident population surpasses 1,000. The women’s basketball team makes it to the NCAA Tournament. The women conclude the 2011-2012 season with an overall record of 25-4. The men’s basketball team caps a record-setting season with an 88-77 victory over Brooklyn College in the championship game of the ECAC Metro Region tournament to claim the first ECAC title in program history. They finish the season with an overall record of 23-7, the “winningest” season in school history. Mount Saint Mary College’s Sigma Tau chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, is presented with an Achieving Chapter Excellence Award for outstanding programming in support of the society’s mission and strategic goals.

O.P., professor of religious studies; and the Irish Heritage Festival of Orange County. Fr. Francis Amodio, O.Carm. and Campus Ministry enact the Living Stations of the Cross during the season of Lent. Two students sponsored by the Center for Adolescent Research and Development (CARD) are accepted for the prestigious American Educational Research Association undergraduate research workshop in April. The College’s 49th Commencement is held on May 19, 2012 on the Dominican Center field. The year marks the 49th commencement for the bachelor’s degrees, and the 27th commencement for the master’s degrees.

Forty Mount students study abroad in Italy, England, Spain, France, and Ireland. At Oxford in England, four students undertake one-to-one tutorials with Oxford professors in topics of their choosing. These students all receive grades in the “A” range. A new joint degree program with Fordham University is established. Students who complete the program will receive a B.A. in human services from Mount Saint Mary College and an M.S.W. from Fordham University.

FALL 2011 The Board of Trustees approves funding for construction management of the Dominican Center renovation. The conceptual design process continues which includes a new library/learning center, student housing and dining. The Dominican Center Tower is lit in the evenings as a beacon, both on campus and across the NewburghBeacon Bridge. The Center for Student Success pilot program begins, providing a variety of academic and personal support services to ensure that all Mount students have the resources they need to succeed. Advising, tutorial services, time-management assistance, and instruction in study skills are among the services offered. The Chapel in the Dominican Center resounds with Christmas Vespers, directed by Durward Entrekin, Ph.D., Professor of Music. Nicholas Valentine, owner of Broadway Tailors, is recognized for providing tuxedos for the event since the mid-1970s. Later in the week, students join Fr. Francis Amodio, OCarm in the blessing of the crèche and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony where they also enjoy an ice-skating rink. During January break, selected nursing students and two nursing faculty travel to serve the poor in the Dominican Republic bringing along donated supplies.

SPRING 2012 The Habitat for Humanity Club travels to Huntsville, Alabama to help build a home for a needy family. Students, faculty and staff involve themselves in the Culture of Life: Love Yourself, Be Yourself, Be the Example campaign, geared towards broadening students’ awareness of the importance of respect, virtue, and moral development. Accounting students team up with PathStone Community Improvement to assist people with low to moderate incomes who need help with tax forms. Students train with an IRS rep. Mount students and alumni march in the NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade along with Fr. Kevin Mackin, President; Sr. Peggy Murphy,

SUMMER 2012 The Mount receives a $1,000,000 grant from the Dyson Foundation to fund expansion of the Center for Student Success and scholarships for 1st generation college students and underserved students. Five students will receive scholarships beginning in the fall of 2012. The Mount holds its 34th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament and Inaugural Tennis Tournament. The honorees for the 2012 Golf and new Tennis Tournament are Thomas Weddell of Vanacore DeBenedictus, DiGovanni and Weddell, and Philip DeAngelo of Focused Wealth Management, Inc.
