TICKETS ON SALE NOW! What is MBT Rep? In June 2007 MBT created and debuted the first Summer Repertory Theatre series, the first major production of its kind in our 80-year history and a significant change from what the Theatre typically does as a “road house.” The majority of MBT Season events are pre-designed national tours that spend one or two nights in town before moving on to the next city. In contrast, the entire Rep series is selfproduced, meaning MBT is directly responsible for selecting scripts, designing and building sets, casting, and directing. Now in its 9th year, Summer Rep continues to be performed inthe-round in the intimate Walton Theatre. This celebrated annual event includes three rotating plays featuring a combined cast of actors, some of whom take on roles in more than one show. The popularity of Summer Rep led us to add the Winter Rep series in 2011, which continues each year in February/March. Building on the success of other Rep productions, in October of this year we will be ushering in the inaugural Autumn Rep in the Walton Theatre with Forever Plaid. MBT Rep continues to grow in popularity, attracting audiences, performers, and artistic staff from across the Buy the northwest Washington region while gaining recognition for Bellingham as a supportive arts community. Series for $110* (reg. $135)

SUMMER REP 2015

Performance Dates: July 15, 18, 21, 24, 30; August 2, 5, 8 Neil Simon, America’s premier comic playwright, makes another hilarious foray into the world of modern relationships. Jake, a novelist who is more successful with fiction than with life, faces a marital crisis. Prompted into both real and imagined conversations with the ladies in his life, Jake finds the wildly comic and sometimes moving flashbacks playing in his mind are occasionally interrupted by visitations from actual females. Hoping to find a way to save his marriage, Jake matches wits with the revered first wife who was killed years earlier in an accident, the second wife who may be leaving him for another man, the grown daughter he recalls as a child, the boisterous and bossy sister who can’t help but meddle, the opinionated analyst with her own relationship issues, and even a prospective third wife. Sweet and spunky, affectionate and antagonistic, Jake’s women propel him down a path of self-reflection both witty and wise. “Fantastically funny...Jake’s Women are a wonderful crowd.” - The New York Post “One of Simon’s best.” - The Los Angeles Times “Wit and wisecracks aplenty.” - UPI “Jake’s Women (Neil Simon)” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

O t h e r D es e r t Cities BY JON ROBIN BAITZ

Performance Dates: July 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31; August 6, 9 In this dramatic comedy about a dramatic family, once-promising novelist Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her wealthy parents, her brother, and her aunt. The holiday reunion is thrown into chaos when Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up an explosive and tragic event in the family’s history—a skeleton they staunchly prefer to keep in the closet. Politics collide, tempers flare, and long-held secrets come to light in this powerful, spirited story of a family that must come to grips with its past. “A winner…funny and fierce, invigorating and intelligent.” - Daily News “Astutely drawn…juicy and surprising.” - NY Daily News “Spending time with these messed-up, complicated people is a genuine pleasure.” - New York Post “Power, passion, and superbly crafted palaver stippled with blow darts of wit—this is what Baitz does best.” - New York Magazine “OTHER DESERT CITIES is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.”

Performance Dates: October 2-4, 7-11, 14-18 Once upon a time in the ’50s, there were four young men who discovered they shared a love of music and entertaining. They became the Plaids, a quartet united with the dream of becoming one of the hit “guy groups” of the era. This dream ends suddenly on the way to their first major gig. Now, the Plaids have returned from the afterlife for one final chance at musical glory. Singing in close harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations, and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with overzealous precision, the Plaids perform a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they’re not humming along to nostalgic pop hits like “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing,” “Chain Gang,” and “Heart and Soul.” “Screamingly funny! Entirely enchanting, utterly entertaining, awesome! ...Will put a smile on your face, a hum in your throat, and a tap to your feet.” - New York Post “The laughter doesn’t stop! ...Delightful, original, and funny!” -The Associated Press “FOREVER PLAID” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI, 412 Weste 54th Street, New York, NY 10019. Phone: 212-541-4684 Fax: 212-397-4684. www.MTIShows.com

WINTER REP 2016

BY LARRY SHUE

Performance Dates: February 12-14, 17-21, 24-28 One of the funniest plays ever written, this extraordinarily inventive, sidesplitting comedy sees an ex-GI beset by a visitor who outstays his welcome with a vengeance. Now an aspiring young architect in Indiana, Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life in Vietnam. Having written to his savior offering to repay him in any way possible, Willum is overjoyed when Rick shows up unexpectedly on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday. However, his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless “nerd”—a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence, and less tact. As Rick stays on and on, his continued presence among Willum and his friends leads to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating drastic measures. “…the audience almost never stops laughing, handkerchiefs wiping away tears of merriment…” - Variety “…a spring tonic of side-bruising laughter…” - The Milwaukee Tribune “THE NERD is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.”
