Our vegetable growers, livestock raisers, roadside stands, tailgate markets and family orchards make the region stand out in our country’s burgeoning local food movement. Organizations like the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project help farmers and consumers connect in ways that benefit everyone, whether they carry a fork or a pitchfork. Anyone who loves a fresh tomato and the farmer who grew it has a stake in WNC’s food economy. That’s reflected in the winners of this year’s readers’ poll. Our region’s commitment to local and organic food has flourished over the past few decades. This dedication shines through in our Farm & Garden category. Voters used their keyboards to stand behind their favorite farms and products, proving our community’s devotion to our growers.
