Last year it was Garrett W. Lydic and the selection for 2007, announced at the district’s end-off-theyear recognition banquet held Saturday at Laurel Fire Hall, is second-grade teacher Yvette Jones Bourne, a Laurel native. Bourne graduated from Laurel High School in 1980 and Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. She received her master’s degree from Wilmington College. Bourne and her husband, Jonathan, are the parents of a 12-yearold daughter, Meagan. Bourne started in 1986 as a special education teacher but was soon moved to teaching second graders where she has been for the last 21 years. “I love it,” says Bourne. The banquet also featured the announcement of district employees who are retiring this year. They are: custodian, Leroy D. Drummond, 34 years; fourth-grade teacher, Rose Ann Hastings, 23 years; transition teacher, Richard E.
