RIVER REGION ARTS GROUPS Alabama Dance Theatre: An honor company in the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association, ADT combines professional and student dancers in a number of performances . The ADT studios are at the Armory Learning Arts Center, 1018 Madison Ave. Call 241-2800 for tickets and 241-2590 for class information. Alabama Center for Traditional Culture: Created in 1990, the group is dedicated to researching, documenting and preserving the state’s folk cultures. They offer a variety of programs and other activities. 242-4076. Alabama Jazz and Blues Federation: Founded in 1990 as the Alabama Jazz Federation, it added blues to its name in 1994. The group promotes concerts throughout the year, has regular jam sessions and school programs. Visit www.ajbf.com. Alabama Shakespeare Festival: Montgomery is home to one of the world’s top Shakespeare festivals, the centerpiece of Blount Cultural Park. Each year features a repertory season and other productions. The season’s lineup has Shakespeare’s classics along with new shows from ASF’s Southern Writers’ Project. 271-5353. Alabama State University: The university’s theater department prepares several productions each academic year. The productions are staged at the university’s Leila Barlow Theatre, 915 S. Arts Council of Montgomery: The council strives to enhance the cultural life of the city by promoting growth and quality of the arts through education of the youth. The nonprofit organization offers several specialized arts programs for schoolchildren throughout the year. The council also serves as a forum for arts development. 241-ARTS (2787). Capitol Sounds Concert Band: This volunteer organization is sponsored by the Montgomery Department of Parks and Recreation. Call 240-4661 or visit www.capitolsounds.org to contact the band and/or find out how to join. Faulkner University Dinner Theatre: A Montgomery tradition, this is the city’s only dinner theater. Each season features several productions. Auditions are open to the community as well as to Faulkner students, faculty and staff. Faulkner University Dinner Theatre is in the Pop Myers Fine Arts Center, 5345 Atlanta Highway. 386-7190. Huntingdon College: This college theater presents a variety of productions each year. In 2004, the theater moved down Fairview Avenue to its new home, 1125 E. Fairview Ave. 833-4292. Millbrook Community Players Inc.: A new community theater, the group will present several productions each year. In July, it will stage “Bless My Father” by Craig Alpaugh. Montgomery Ballet: A professional ballet company, the Montgomery Ballet presents several productions each year. The company’s annual Christmas season production of “The Nutcracker” is a holiday tradition. Two free performances are staged outside during the warmer months. The Performance on the Green is at Blount Cultural Park, and Ballet and the Beasts is performed at the Montgomery Zoo. The Montgomery Ballet studios are at 6009 E. Shirley Lane. 409-0522. Montgomery Chamber Music Organization: For more than 40 years, this organization has brought some of the world’s best chamber music groups to the Capital City. Concerts are in the Wilson Auditorium at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. 277-3505 or 277-2766. Montgomery Chorale: Around for more than 30 years, the chorale performs several concerts each year. The 50-plus members continue the tradition with both classical and popular music, often with orchestral accompaniment. The organization also offers youngsters an opportunity to sing with the Montgomery Youth Chorale. 265-3737. Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts: Throughout the year, there is a diverse schedule of

Troy University’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts: Each year, the Davis Theatre features a lineup of national touring productions of Broadway musicals and music-based entertainment. Way Off Broadway Theater: This Prattville community theater group debuted a few years ago with “An Evening of Culture” by Mark Landon Smith. 358-0297. Wetumpka Depot Players: This community theater treats its audiences to a variety of shows each year, and they’re heavy on Southern-flavored shows.
