The 1853 Society

Named to commemorate the year of Monmouth College’s founding, The 1853 Society recognizes alumni, parents, friends and organizations that make leadership annual gifts in support of the college. The society has five clubs, each representing a level of generous giving.

PRESIDENTS CLUB: Members contributed $25,000 or more in 2011–2012 Throughout more than 15 decades, Monmouth College has been led by just 13 presidents, making the average presidential term of office nearly 12 years. Thomas Hanna McMichael, MC’s fourth president, served a remarkable 33 years. Such dedication, leadership, and commitment to Monmouth College is exhibited by the members of the Presidents Club. Quinby Club: Members contributed $5,000 to $9,999 in 2011–2012 A pioneer banker, judge and philanthropist, Ivory Quinby was an early trustee who provided financial support and sage advice to the fledgling institution. Through many generations, the Quinby family has continued its loyalty to the college, including the gift of the original Quinby home—now the residence of the college president.
