Powering medical clinics means there is refrigeration for medications and vaccines and, of course, light.” Cutting edge Israeli technology developed in Hod Hasharon allows BorowichYa’ari to monitor the water systems in Africa from her home in Tel Aviv. In the four years the organization has existed, 52 projects have been powered in four African countries so far. Over 75,000 children have received vaccines because of electricity in medical clinics provided by Israeli solar energy. A solar powered water pumping system provides over 20,000 liters of clean water per day, enough for an entire village. Most non-profits working in Africa are focused on HIV prevention and women’s
empowerment. Borowich-Ya’ari believes bringing power to Africa should be the first step towards improving people’s lives there. “Personally I think before you get to women’s empowerment you have to alleviate the need for women to spend most of their day looking for water and wood.” Borowich-Ya’ari returns from a trip and can’t get the pictures of the children out of her mind. She goes to sleep with their faces embedded in her memory and an aching to return and help more. Her care and love for them is real.
