Kayaking is even more fun that it looks! Come learn how to paddle on flat water in recreational solo kayaks on Little Seneca Lake. Learn basic strokes, entries and exits, boat control, and more, taught by certified American Canoe Association instructors. We won’t roll, but you’ll get wet, so dress accordingly. You must be able to swim. All necessary equipment provided. Please wear water-friendly clothing and hat, strap-on water sandals or shoes (no slip-on sandals, please) and bring water and sunscreen. Mother’s Day Stroll

Take a gentle walk with a Naturalist on Crystal Rock Trail to enjoy the wonders of spring along Little Seneca Lake. What a great way to spend time with Mom in the great outdoors! Strollers welcome. Meet at the parking area across from the Park Office next to the maintenance yard. This is just past the contact station on the left hand side of Lake Ridge Rd in the park. Ladies Lakeside Mother’s Day Pontoon Ride

It’s Mother’s Day and Mom deserves to be given a treat. So bring her out for a sunset tour of Little Seneca Lake and let her enjoy the beauty around her with the people she loves. Civil War battlefields are preserved for their history and importance to our nation, but they also preserve natural beauty and important ecological sites. Join us for a visit to Monocacy National Battlefield and Antietam National Battlefield. The hikes will be moderately strenuous. Please bring a lunch and comfortable hiking shoes. Family Fishing Fun!

Fishing is fun for the whole family! We’ll show you how to set up a simple bobber rig, bait your hook, and give you some tips on casting. We’ll provide the bait and rigging supplies, you just have to catch the fish! We do have some fishing poles you can borrow, but if you have your own pole, bring it along so you can practice with your own gear. Please register only those planning to fish. Native Plant Sale

Shop for nursery-propagated native wildflowers for your yard and garden, many of which are nectar and host plants for butterflies. The sale is offered by the Friends of Black Hill (FOBH) Nature Programs, and all proceeds are donated to Black Hill Nature programs. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge’s Eagle Festival Spend the day with us at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge’s Annual Eagle Festival on the Eastern Shore. The event offers live raptor programs and demonstrations, an eagle prowl, photography workshop and more. Please dress for the outdoors; it’s a rain or shine event. A Monumental Paddle

Come view the iconic monuments of Washington, D.C. by kayak! We’ll travel by van from Black Hill to the Tidal Basin, and enjoy fabulous views as we paddle the Potomac past the Kennedy Center and Georgetown, with a stop at Roosevelt Island. This is not an instructional or novice course, so if you’ve never paddled, please try our Beginning Kayaking course first. We’ll do a quick review of moving water safety considerations and maneuvers.
