Source: AECP database Out of the 95,607 adult population (16+) screened in the period of 2003-2009, the AECP medical teams have diagnosed some 40,000 persons with at least one disease of the eye and adnexa. It makes up 42% of those screened. However, taking into consideration the specifics of the screened population’s demographics, this indicator cannot be considered an indicator of eye disease prevalence. The prevalence of different eye diseases were estimated after having weighed the AECP database results and are presented in the next paragraph. The regional distribution of the population screened by the AECP who have at least one disease is presented in the map below.
