PARKING Official festival parking is available for $5 at Veterans Park (follow the signs northbound on Lincoln Memorial Drive and turn right onto Lagoon Drive). A complimentary shuttle departs every 10 minutes to and from the Museum grounds. Parking is also available for a fee at the War Memorial Center North Parking Lot (enter from Lincoln Memorial Drive) and at O’Donnell Park on a first-come, firstserved basis. Disabled visitors and their companions may enter the festival through the west entrance on Lincoln Memorial Drive near the entrance to O’Donnell Park. Bike parking is always free on the festival grounds near the south entrance!

Volunteer program The festival couldn't happen without the support of our volunteers! For information on how you can get involved, visit mam. org/lfoa or call 414-224-3253.

GREENING EFFORTS This year’s festival has taken additional steps beyond its successful recycling program to embrace environmental responsibility. In fact, the festival has qualified for Travel Green Wisconsin certification. This program is being printed on recycled paper with specially engineered Enviro/Tech ink, which contains large amounts of renewable resources. The event reuses materials, such as signage, as much as possible. Vendors are encouraged to use less energy, and attendees are encouraged to take public transportation. Artists are asked to use fluorescent lighting instead of incandescent bulbs in artwork displays. And the free promotional items for artists will be provided in reusable cloth grocery bags.

INFORMATION

Questions? Information needed? Answers are just a red vest away. The red-vested LFOA Information Ambassadors will be roving the grounds to ensure you get the most out of the festival.

Volunteer for the Fun of It Volunteer program sponsored by Kaplan University

Yes, the Lakefront Festival of Arts is a special event, but many may not know it’s also a fundraiser for the Milwaukee Art Museum. Still fewer know that the Friends of Art is behind the weekend of fun, freely giving thousands of volunteer hours to raise money to purchase art and support exhibitions at the Museum. It’s rare to find a volunteer who helps at LFOA only once. “Many people – even some with generations of volunteer history

– take a week out of their summer every year to work on the festival,” says Kathy Schnuck, a co-chair of this year’s event. And this year, because it’s the festival’s 50th anniversary, the experience may be even more gratifying. Scott Wallace, co-chair, says, “It’s rewarding to see all the dedicated volunteers who return year after year. We hope people say, ‘I can’t wait for the 75th anniversary.’” — Laura Patten
