The Research Center has over 10,000 archival materials and reference books on the 5history of Southampton. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. $4 adults, free for members and children 17 and under. Thurs 8/12 Plein Air Peconic Art Roundtable Forum 4:00 pm Free Landscape, Art, History, Preservation - A Roundtable Forum with John Halsey, President of the Peconic Land Trust, Alicia Longwell, Parrish Museum Chief Curator, and artists Gail Kern, Eileen Dawn Skretch, and photographer Kathryn Szoka of Plein Air Peconic. The participants will discuss the interdependence of art, preservation, and history in shaping the East End landscape. The work of well known Plein Air artists like William Merritt Chase, Thomas Moran, Sheridan Lord, will be discussed along with contemporary artists like Jane Wilson and Jane Freilicher. These artists, along with Plein Air Peconic artists, have greatly influenced how we perceive our environment and as a consequence how we preserve, develop, and value it historically. Thurs 8/12 The Intersection of Land Conservation and Art: A Special Roundtable Discussion 4:00 pm Free A moderated roundtable led by artist Kathryn Szoka will include Trust President John v.H. Halsey, Alicia Longwell, the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator for the Parrish Art Museum, and fellow Plein Air Peconic artists Eileen Dawn Skretch and Gail Kern. The roundtable will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rogers Mansion and will be followed by a reception.
