June 2015

Colin Reid belongs to the same generation as Tessa Clegg and Peter Layton of the first among the British-glass artists formed just ten years after the arrival of American Sam Herman in 1966, started the New Glass in the UK. While studying at the St Martin's School of Art (1970-72) is in the Stourbridge School of Art (1978-81) where Colin Reid discovers glass, learning the techniques of blow molds and working with torch or candilón. With the latter technique makes his early series of "Perfume Bottles". Over the years it has become a master of the process and lost wax casting, sometimes taking molds of natural elements for his works.

His mastery of technique allows him to undertake large works carrying them out in numerous commissions for public or private entities, not only in the UK: Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (1996 and 1997), National Museum of Scotland (1998), Shanghai Public Library, China (1999), etc. But perhaps where Colin Reid finds himself either in the works in natural open spaces like gardens, woods or along lakes: Cutlers Gardens Estate in London (1996), "River Rocks" on Lake River Lune, UK ( 2000).

Your stay for two years in these distant lands specially marked him acquiring a taste for the porous textures in memory of his splendid volcanic landscapes and collecting the powerful tradition of Maori and Polynesian art. Simple or spiral triangular shapes with very elaborate, well roughened and mateadas, well polished and transparent textures contain sufficient strength and beauty to make your work a landmark in the contemporary British glass.

One of the first exhibitions In the early 90s he held by the MAVA after its worked as Artist in opening in October 1997, Residence at the was dedicated to the work Carrington Polytechnic of of Colin Reid Auckland, New Zealand.

Lewis Olson began working with the handling of glass in his native New Zealand in the 70s. Later in the 80s, his passion for glass led him to Australia, Africa, Canada, England, Scandinavia and Italy, where he worked in the studios and glassworks. 

A storyteller by nature, Olson is attracted to the endless possibilities in the use of glass as a medium for communication. His pieces embody his fascination with the sensual, sculptural, functional glass optical properties; whether they are representing the

human figure as exotic animals or scans surface design or architectural form. His work can be seen around the world in private and public collections.

It stands in blown glass works with skill and has received numerous awards, including the Australia Council for the Arts, New Construction Award. As an artist of South Australia, most of his work is influenced by the wildlife of the Mount Lofty Ranges near his home. While working in Japan, Andy was fascinated by the use of details as an important means of expression and uses it as the central element in the story of many of his works. Andy has been a finalist on several occasions in the Ranamok Glass Prize.

I did a course here long ago, when I was still studying. I have also recently had a solo exhibition in the halls of the National Glass Centre of the Royal Site. I have great memories of this space. What will convey to students in his lecture scheduled within these workshops? Large-scale construction within the project European Glass Experience (EGE) I'll tell you a little as we work to bring works to large installations and architecture. Demonstrate the possibilities of glass, and I think the problem is that glass by the technical complexity many people stay in very small sizes, ranging works object attached to a base. My mission within the glass sculpture is elevate to large installations. We are talking about large formats, works of five meters that occupy architectural spaces, which are adapted to each character of that architecture, works outdoors. I started work on the subject too, but over the years I've realized the possibilities of glass in large format. The tool we use is very good for this, since model level can not create a space and imagine exactly how it will be that in a building of ten meters. With these 3D tools that give us new technology, you can recreate the space, you can do your work within that space, see how it works, such a dialogue, you can,

say, working from within, not from outside to inside. It gives results that the old way would be very difficult to reach.

A Polish architect has designed a surprisingly bold project: a tennis stadium located entirely under water, which would be located off the coast of Dubai. Viewers could watch the games, and marine life above their heads, through a glass dome.

Krysztof Kotala architect of the now 8 + 8 Concept Studio, has chosen Dubai for its innovative concept because according to the opinion, it should be located "where there is a tradition of tennis."

Guillermo Solana (Madrid, 1960) has just completed a decade as artistic director of the ThyssenBornemisza Museum, one of the essential pillars of the Art Walk of Madrid near the Prado and Reina Sofia. Professor on leave from the University, his whole museum experience is linked to Thyssen, a public establishment, under controlled by the Ministry of Culture Foundation, which has suffered major national museums as the huge budget cuts since the beginning of the Crisis in 2008.

Indeed, in the last meeting of the Board it announced that extends for another year the free loan of his collection to the museum. It is unfair to confuse the museum with the Baroness and say that she benefits. The collection and finance the museum and hers are sealed worlds. Have nothing to do. Q. The great dome flag representing Italy at Expo 2015 in Milan bears the stamp "made in Spain". Berciana multinational Tvitec has supplied nearly 3,000 square meters of glazed dress 'La Vela', the dome of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan, designed by the Roman study Nemesi & Partners. The processed and transformed by Tvitec for the Palazzo Italia architectural glass shaped, with a composition of photovoltaic glass, indoor distinguishes this unique building. This is a total of 2,800 square meters of rolled products and high performance double glazing for which has been used extra-Low-e glass.

Thus it contributes to the ultimate goal of the promoters of achieving energy efficient construction beyond its exceptional aesthetics. One of the technical difficulties of supply for this spectacular project was the transformation of dozens of large parts with very different geometry; triangular, rectangular and trapezoidal. The dome designed by Nemesi Studio is an innovative and futuristic steel and glass candle developed by the company Stahlbau Pichler. Sustainability and energy saving The glass dome by Tvitec reaches a height of 35 meters above the inner square of the Palazzo Italia, where mass radiates

Tvitec, Stahlbau Pichler and Nemesi Architecs selected a Sunguard Light Blue 52 HD for compositions, with the goal of contributing to the achievement of a zeroenergy building. The total weight of the steel and glass dome is about 350 tons. In addition to the technical criteria for energy saving and efficiency in the transformation of architectural glass they have been taken into account strict guidelines to contribute to the safety of 'La Vela'.
