Portugal Brings The Wines From The Tejo Region To Miami Beach Arquimedes Trujillo Publisher
On this evening, Smith & Wollensky, the landmark South Beach restaurant overlooking Fisher Island and the Miami skyline, was overflowing with excitement as wine lovers from around the world discovered the wines of one of the most coveted regions of Portugal.
This private wine tasting event brought 100 distinct wines hailing from the hillier areas that rise out of the River Tagus (Tejo in Portuguese) in southwest Portugal. The Tejo region offers a range of gentle, easy-drinking reds, roses and fruity wines, and aromatic whites to more complex wines from the drier hills. The earlier part of the afternoon catered to the local
trade and media, while a select group of oenophiles, wine connoiseurs, delighted in the indisputable quality of these marvelous elixirs in the evening. Excellent entertainment by the Latin band Bikini Jazz was also a great complement. The event provided a unique business opportunity to South Florida firms, as the winemakers are seeking for distributors in our area.

Private Wine Tasting Event Presented 100 Distinct Wines From Ten Producers The exclusive presentation of more than 100 wines from the Tejo region in Portugal featured products from Quinta Atela, Adega Cooperativa do Cartaxo, Casal do Conde, Quinta da Lapa, Fiuza & Bright, Casal da Coehlheira, Agro-Bartoreu, Quinta do Casal Monteiro, Quinta do Falcao and Quinta Vale do Armo. The Do Tejo certification encompasses almost the
same geographical area as Vinho Regional (VR) Tejo, with three wine production zones —Bairro, Charneca and Lezíria— on either side of the River Tagus as it flows gently along in a southwesterly direction towards its estuary at Lisbon. The region, with its diversity of fertile soils and large wine farms with low production costs, was formerly
known for supplying the internal market and colonies in Africa with quality white and red wines at an extremely competitive price. In Tejo people practice extensive agriculture: horticultural and fruit crops, rice, olive trees and vine fill the region’s wide plains. The River Tejo is one of the elements responsible for the climate and the soil.
