Bartholomeus Spranger: Splendor and Eroticism in Imperial Prague A major force in European art in the late 16th century, Bartholomeus Spranger (1546–1611) was an excellent painter, draftsman, and etcher who employed a bravura technique and elegant style. This is the first exhibition in the world devoted to his rare paintings, drawings, and etchings. Made possible by the Placido Arango Fund and The Schiff Foundation.

Kimono: A Modern History The kimono is a simple T-shaped garment with a complex history that continued into modern times as Japan was reshaping its national identity on the world stage. Featuring more than 50 spectacular robes, most created from the late 19th century to the present, this exhibition tells the fascinating story of a traditional Japanese garment confronting the dominance of Western fashion design. Made possible by The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Foundation Fund.

El Greco in New York The Met holds the most comprehensive collection of works by El Greco outside the Museo del Prado in Madrid. To commemorate the 400th anniversary of El Greco’s death, it is exhibiting its superlative collection of nine paintings together with six from the Hispanic Society of America, creating a miniretrospective of one of the most original artists of the European tradition.
