A MEMPHIS STARTING FIVE • For the first time in over 20 years, the Tigers put a starting five on the floor all from the city of Memphis in their Nov. 12 season opener. • The starting five from the Bluff City were Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson and Adonis Thomas in Memphis’ Nov. 12 game versus North Florida. The same all-Memphis lineup started the Nov. 17 Samford and Nov. 22 VCU games. • Prior to this year’s season opener, the last time the Tigers placed an all-Memphis starting five on the floor in a season opener was 1987-88. In that year’s season opener versus Jackson State, the all-Memphis starting five were Rodney Douglas, Sylvester Gray, Marvin Alexander, Dwight Boyd and Elliot Perry. • In overall games, the last time an all-Memphis starting five played for the Tigers was on “Senior Day” in 1994-95 season. That game’s (versus Dayton) starting five were Justin Wimmer, Marcus Nolan, Lorenzen Wright, Leon Mitchell and Jason Fox. • The Tigers’ all-time record in which an allMemphis lineup started is 134-42 (.761 winning percentage; includes 2012-13). • The most-successful, all-Memphis starting lineup was the one consisting of Baskerville Holmes-Keith Lee-William Bedford-Vincent Askew-Andre Turner. That all-Memphis starting five went 28-3 in the 1984-85 season. • For a complete historical list of all-Memphis starting fives in the program’s history, look at the box on page 6. Game #6 • Memphis vs. UT Martin • Page 6 TIGERS SELECT TEAM CAPTAINS • The Tigers selected Tarik Black, Chris Crawford and Joe Jackson as their captains for the 2012-13 season. • The team voted for its team captains Nov. 9 prior to its season opener Nov. 12. JOHNSON NCAA-IMPOSED SUSPENSION OVER; TIGERS GUARD BACK IN ACTION • Geron Johnson is back in action after serving an NCAA-imposed, three-game suspension to start the 2012-13 campaign. Johnson was held out of the Nov. 12 North Florida, Nov. 17 Samford and Nov. 22 VCU contests. • The NCAA sanction was the result of extra benefits received by Johnson from a family friend who assisted the family with his educational expenses prior to his enrollment at the University of Memphis. • In his two games of action, Johnson averaged 3.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in 19.5 minutes. • The 6-foot-3 guard came up big late in the Northern Iowa win. With the Tigers clinging to a 45-41 lead, Johnson’s steal led to a Joe Jackson three-point play to push the advantage to 48-41 with only :35 on the clock. CRAWFORD, STEPHENS SET CAREER HIGHS IN BAHAMAS • Despite going 1-2 in The Bahamas, Chris Crawford and D.J. Stephens posted careerhigh numbers. • In the Nov. 23 game versus Minnesota, Stephens netted a career-high 15 points (5-of-7 FG, 3-of-3 treys, 2-of-4 FT). • The 6-foot-5 forward also hit a career-best three treys and tied career highs for FG made (5) and three-point attempts (3). • Crawford pulled down a career-high 12 boards in the Tigers’ 52-47 victory over Northern Iowa Nov. 24. • Crawford also scored a season-high 18 points against Northern Iowa, posting his first career double-double.
