Stewart graduates Lauren Stewart, the daughter of Clyde and Gayle Stewart of Old Church, graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor of science degree in mass communications. She also was awarded the Kappa Tau Alpha National Honor Society in Journalism Award and the VCU Mass Communication Top Scholar Award for Highest Class Ranking. Lauren has been accepted into the accelerated master’s program in mass communication at VCU.

This year’s recipients are: Chad Garrett, Lee-Davis High School; Blake Baudean, Atlee High School; and Jimmy Thorne, Hanover High School. According to the squad’s website, www.ehvrs.org, the Executive Board voted several
years ago to award a deserving student from each of the three high schools it serves with $1,000 to continue their education into medicine (emergency or otherwise) upon graduation. The rules and regulations of the award are considered strict and left to the discretion of the schools, making winners the best students attending those schools.
