A principios de los cincuenta, Ingmar Bergman compró una cámara de 9.5 mm y comenzó a registrar su vida privada y su actividad como realizador detrás de cámara. En un estilo casual, vibrante, el realizador de El séptimo sello y Persona se filmó en su silla esperando la luz adecuada para alguna toma, comiendo con su equipo de rodaje o simplemente charlando con sus actrices Harriet Andersson y Bibi Andersson. Medio siglo después, el periodista y cineasta Stig Björkman compiló todo ese material en dos películas de corta duración (de las cuales ésta es la primera), agregándole únicamente fragmentos sonoros de entrevistas con Bergman y sus actrices y una introducción especial de parte de Martin Scorsese. Por si alguien necesita otra razón para decidirse a ver esta película, vale aclarar que el material que compone a Images from the Playground ha sido agregado al archivo de la UNESCO para la Memoria del Mundo.
In the early 50s, Ingmar Bergman bought a 9.5 mm. camera and began to film his private life and his work as a director. With a casual and vibrant style, the director of The Seventh Seal and Persona filmed himself sitting in his chair waiting for the right light for a shot, eating with his film crew or simply chatting with actresses Harriet Andersson and Bibi Andersson. Half a century later, journalist and filmmaker Stig Björkman compiled all this material in two short films (of which this is the first), adding only voice recordings of interviews with Bergman and his actresses and a special introduction by Martin Scorsese. In case anyone needs another reason to see this movie, the footage used in Images from the Playground has been included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Program.

Stig Björkman Nacido en 1938 en Suecia, Björkman trabaja desde la década del sesenta como crítico e investigador cinematográfico. Entre 1964 y 1972 fue el editor de la publicación sueca Chaplin y en 2004 recibió el premio Mrs Sorenson’s Memorial Fund por su labor como periodista cinematográfico. Como realizador ha dirigido Georgia, Georgia (1972), The White Wall (1975), Behind the Shutters (1984) y Tranceformer - A Portrait of Lars von Trier (1997), entre otras. Born in 1938 in Sweden, Björkman works since the sixties as film critic and researcher. Between 1964 and 1972 he was the editor for the Swedish magazine Chaplin and in 2004 he received the Mrs Sorenson’s Memorial Fund award for his work as film journalist. As a filmmaker, he directed Georgia, Georgia (1972), The White Wall (1975), Behind the Shutters (1984) and Tranceformer - A Portrait of Lars von Trier (1997), amongst others.
