Un prophète A Prophet / Un profeta Si en su película anterior, El latido de mi corazón, Audiard se apoyaba en un clásico norteamericano de los setenta como El precio de un hombre (James Toback, 1978), su cine parece seguir ubicado en esas coordenadas. Aunque esta vez el nombre clave sería el de Martin Scorsese –sobre todo en cuanto al retrato de universos masculinos–, además de las series televisivas norteamericanas sobre el mundo del crimen, como la influyente The Wire u Oz, con la que comparte tema carcelario. En Un prophète, Malik El Djebena ha sido condenado a seis años de prisión. Cuando llega a la cárcel está completamente solo, y parece más joven y frágil que el resto de los reclusos. Tiene 19 años y no sabe leer ni escribir. Desde el principio, se une a un grupo de presos corsos cuya palabra es ley. Malik aprende a endurecerse rápido, y usa su inteligencia para tejer discretamente su propia red de alianzas. Filmado con vértigo en cada plano, aridez atmosférica y virtuosismo infrecuente, el film ganador del Gran Premio del Jurado en el último Cannes depara como gran revelación al debutante cinematográfico Tahar Rahim, perfectamente acompañado por el veterano Niels Arestrup, quien interpreta al líder de la banda corsa.
Audiard´s previous film, The Beat That My Heart Skipped, was based on the American classic of the seventies Fingers (James Toback, 1978), and his films in general seem to run along the same lines. But this time the key reference is Martin Scorsese –especially when it comes to the depiction of masculine universes–, and television series about the world of crime, such as the influential The Wire and Oz, which is also set in prison. In Un prophète, Malik El Djebena has been sentenced to six years in prison. Upon entering prison he is completely alone, and looks younger and more fragile than the rest of the inmates. He is 19 years old and can’t read or write. From the beginning, he joins a group of Corsican inmates who run the place. Malik learns to toughen himself up fast, and applies his intelligence to discreetly weaving his own web of alliances. Filmed with vertigo in each frame, atmospheric aridity and an unusual virtuosity, through his first film, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, Tahar Rahim proves his talent, accompanied by veteran Niels Arestrup, who plays the leader of the Corsican gang.

Jacques Audiard
Nació en 1952 en París. Originalmente fue montajista, y luego, durante los ochenta, fue guionista de más de una docena de películas, entre ellas El profesional (1981). Dirigió las películas Regarde les hommes tomber (1994), Un héros très discret (1996; ganadora del premio al Mejor Guión en el Festival de Cine de Cannes), Sur mes lèvres (2001) y El latido de mi corazón (2005). Un prophète ganó el Grand Prix en el Festival de Cannes 2009. Born in 1952 in Paris, he started his career as editor and in the eighties wrote a dozen scripts, including Le Professionnel (1981). He directed the movies Regarde les hommes tomber (1994), Un héros très discret (1996, which received the Screenplay Award at the Cannes Film Festival), Sur mes lèvres (2001) and De battre mon coeur s’est arrêté (2005). A Prophete (2009) won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2009.
