One Earth, One Humanity, One Spirit By Mark Sheehan “The world is not a problem to be solved, it’s a living being to be related to, and it is calling to us. Forty years ago, Oscar Ichazo, founder of the Arica School and contributor to theories on the enneagram, warned about climate change and the cascading impacts of ecological overshoot: overpopulation, pollution and misuse of the earth’s dwindling resources. Oscar developed a system of enlightenment to help people overcome ego patterns that keep humanity trapped in self-delusion, perpetuating scarcity in a world of abundance. While the enneagram information has changed psychology and the Arica trainings have transformed thousands of lives, the world’s problems have only gotten worse over the decades. If we have lost our sense of the sacred and our connection to the earth, as so many sages claim, then how can we restore the balance? How do we go from plundering a resource to reclaiming the land and restoring harmony between man and nature? How do we stop the insane raping of the natural world, and learn to live in the world rather than off of it? Fresh insight into our collective predicament was offered at the Wailea ‘Youthing’ seminar in early May when Sri Prem Baba, a humanitarian leader and enlightened master from Brazil, paid a special visit to Maui. He came to bless two initiatives: the report on

climate change that was just released by the United Nations, and the SHAKA Movement ballot initiative. To change our approach to nature, he explained, we must change our selves because what we are doing to the earth is a reflection of our inner state. Prem Baba’s master told him that to understand a society, you need only to observe how it relates to the mother – to the feminine. The true feminine is accepting, but the distortion of this principle is ‘neediness’ – a need of the ego for constant attention. Prem Baba claims the root of ‘human dis-ease’ is a compulsive need to receive exclusive love at all times. This egoic need also distorts the masculine element – the power of action and realization. These crippling needs prevent realization of the self, which will help us wake up. “It’s like sadomasochism,” he said. “Whether you are the controlled one craving respect or the dominator demanding it, both are crippled by a desperate need for attention.” This bad dream, he is certain, is a spell of the mind that causes us to forget our true nature, and prevents us from seeing reality objectively.
To understand your own illusions, he recommends you look at your experience – your shocks of abandonment, rejection and humiliation. To avoid feeling such pain, we turn to sex, money and power – instruments that could work to release us, but which we instead use to keep ourselves enslaved in a fear-based dream. So many of our emotions get hampered when we are stuck in a story from the past, often leaving us unable to love. When we are unable to love, we play the victim and we blame others. “Then, of course,” he said, “jealousy and envy have a party in your head; lust, attachment, ownership – all these do whatever they want with you.” These ego states lead us to dominate, control and exploit nature; we believe that it will always be there to serve us. Prem Baba believes that rescuing human spirituality is key to the salvation of humanity. His hope is that we are being drawn to such a love for the earth, nature and all its creatures. He summed up our challenge: in order to love, you need to forgive; to forgive, you must understand; to understand, you must see yourself. This requires self-knowledge. “You will only benefit from the grace of freedom,” he said, “when you are truly able to love earth and all its sons and daughters, including the animals and nature itself.” For further wisdom from this master, visit PremBaba.org or read his book, From Suffering to Joy: The Path of the Heart. When I was a child - 5 or 6 years old - I remember dipping my cupped hands and enjoying a pleasant sip from what appeared to be a natural spring on the campus of Vassar College in upstate New York. GMO Countdown Begins
By Courtney Hayes “Aloha aina, love the land.” - Alika Atay, one of the creators of the SHAKA Movement As of Tuesday, May 27, the SHAKA (Sustainable Hawaiian Agriculture for the Keiki and the Aina) Movement had collected over 18,000 signatures to support a ballot initiative for the November 2014 election. Organizers expect they have reached their goal, with verification from the county due by mid-June. To qualify for the ballot, 8,465 verified signatures are required. On the first round, of the 9,768 signatures that were turned in only 4,720 were verified, according to the Maui County Clerk’s office. The others were tossed out for a variety of reasons. According to their website, the SHAKA Movement seeks to place an initiative on the ballot which “calls for a temporary moratorium of all genetic engineering (GE) operations within Maui County until the Biotech companies finance a detailed Environmental and Public Health Impacts Study (EPHIS), administered by the county, showing current scientific data and proof that open air experimentation of GE crops and associated mixed pesticide use is not harmful to people and the land.” Joe Marshalla Ph.D., one of the founders of the SHAKA Movement, says, “There’s a whole series of chemicals that have never been used anywhere else in the world and new life forms that have never existed on earth before; both are present here in Maui County.” Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds Of Deception and executive director of the Institute for Responsible Technology, has traveled to over 40 countries and has spoken about the health dangers of GMOs for 18 years. Jeffrey visited Maui in May and he states, “In Maui, the situation is far worse because not only are people consuming GMOs, they are being exposed to them through the air, the water, and all of the associated agricultural chemicals.” Assuming it is successful, the initiative will be on the Nov. 4 ballot. What Brings You Joy Now?
By Liah Howard The need for fun and nourishment from our soul is always there, but the means for fulfilling that Divine inner calling can change with both time and experience. What used to lift and inspire me in my 20s has shifted. Now in my 50s, I experience delight in my life in new ways. I chuckle inside when I find myself saying a past belief like: “Yes! I love to ride horses, it brings me great joy and makes me feel alive!” The truth is that in the past, galloping a young and fast steed on an open trail brought an adrenaline rush to my entire body. I felt alive, strong and connected with both the horse and the universe. Now, however, I no longer ride horses, especially since a car accident a year ago where I hurt my neck. I am more cautious about my spine and I don’t push my body by riding like a wild cowboy. The point I’m trying to make is: let’s get real with ourselves about what brings nourishment to our souls now, rather than try to live in a memory of what was exciting or fun back then. Are we reminiscing about our joy, or living our joy now? Consider how many people now have children who are growing up too fast, and elders in their families living much longer life spans. This leaves some folks in the middle, caring for both children and elderly, with little time to have fun or nourish themselves. Perhaps they harbor memories of going to the spa or taking a nap in the afternoon, but the reality is more likely one

of taxi-ing kids around, picking up medicine for an aging parent, and falling into bed exhausted and depleted on many levels. It is to these individuals – the ones who have allowed the busyness of life to creep in and steal away the simple joys of a hot bath with candles, or a long hike in nature – that I speak. By Maurgana Stiastny Sitting, resting and recovering from surgery has been insightful. I have had to find my inner wellspring, as I have not been able to do my regular running, dancing, swimming, jumping and playing. That is hard for someone like me who is used to being very physically active. Where does one find joy, particularly when in pain or incapacitated in some way? I have found that a great way to dip into my wellspring is through creativity. I love to express my creativity in a myriad of ways. Even if you are not a skilled artist, you can take a very enjoyable journey with color using many different media. Art brings inspiration and joy, which results in faster healing. Inspiration, move me brightly…to breathe, to inspire. The breath has become my ally as I have been sitting so much. In our breath is our connection to source. It is available to us at any time. When I do a good pranayama practice, I successfully move my energy enough and I feel happier. Whenever and however I connect to the Great Spirit, I dip into the endless well of love and bliss that is who we actually are – our true nature. I also notice how great it feels to be on the earth barefoot, taking a few deep breaths, looking at the sky and absorbing nature like a sponge. I stand like a mountain, breathing and feeling connected. Another wellspring we can tap into is practicing gratitude, which brings joy and lifts spirits. Kiss The Sky
By Chandrika McLaughlin A wellspring is an original and bountiful source. This is the cradle of love, energy, healing, creativity and beauty, hinting of a divine, limitless nature. Perhaps the poet William Blake was inspired by a wellspring when he wrote, “If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would be seen as it is, infinite.” Jimi Hendrix added, “Excuse me while I kiss the sky.” Every day, a beauty so stunning that it fuels the dreams of people worldwide, bombards Maui residents. It is as if we live in the Louvre of the Lord – by whatever name, gender or conception. The dolphins and whales leap lovingly and playfully. The sculpted lava, sand and waves inspire awe. The rainbows grant the ephemeral magic of magnificence etched in mist. Waterfalls mesmerize and carry away all cares. Krishna, in the Bhagavad Gita, spoke, “Of purifiers I am the wind.” Maui lavishes wind. The sunsets paint with passion, then fade to darkness, only to be lit by the stars and changing face of the moon. From the shadows spring soothing silvered light to calm the restless soul. What does it take to consistently harmonize our thoughts with this splendor? Buddha revealed, “Our life is the creation of our mind.” Our challenge is to totally be, see what we see, and effuse our gratitude. Recent research confirms that those who express their appreciation have the greatest rise in happiness. Trauma and other adverse life experiences often generate negative thinking. When reprocessed with compassion, the thoughts transform automatically to ones that enhance life. We gain valuable insight by staying open to the messages, regardless of their intensity. Allow yourself to connect with the meaning behind the impressions you receive. Unique Approach For Whiplash By Erin L. Elster, D.C. A chiropractic treatment focusing on the alignment of the top vertebrae in the neck, known as upper cervical care, provides a unique approach for whiplash injuries. The upper cervical area of the spine refers to the two vertebrae located at the top of the spine, directly underneath the head. C1 (known as Atlas), along with C2 (known as Axis), are chiefly responsible for the rotation and flexibility of the head and neck. During an auto or sports accident, an individual’s head may be jerked back-and-forth or side-to-side beyond its normal limits, an injury commonly referred to as ‘whiplash.’ This rapid movement of the head and neck may cause ligaments supporting the head and upper neck to be sprained (stretched), which forces the upper vertebrae out of their normal biomechanical position. Because so many nerves transmit through the upper cervical region – to and from the brain – trauma to this area may result in neurological symptoms throughout the body. Symptoms include neck and back pain, blurred vision, irritability, depression, fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, headaches, numbness down the arms, nausea, ringing in the ears, jaw pain and/or face pain. These can be triggered immediately following a whiplash injury, or they can take months or years to develop. Unless the injured cervical vertebrae are addressed, the symptoms can persist. Upper cervical chiropractic care utilizes two diagnostic tools – thermal imaging and digital x-rays – to accurately assess a cervical injury. After determining a diagnosis of cervical injury, each patient’s injured neck is corrected by administering a precise adjustment by hand on a specially designed knee chest table. Waking Up To Love Within
By Nadia Toraman and Shakta Love is the wellspring of vitality. Love is bountiful and abundant and it flows like a stream. But where is its source? I believe the source can be found within. It is said that the heart is where the Self resides – that which is Divine and unified with all, the soul, the One which is our true nature, the bliss of love. The word yoga is defined as ‘union.’ This is also the goal – to live in unity with the path of the heart where love lives, and experience oneness with all of creation. When we realize this even for a fleeting moment, fear and negativity stop, unable to cross the bridge we’ve spanned. The following is from the Chandogya Upanishad: “…bees suck nectar from many a flower and make their honey one, so that no drop can say, ‘I am from this flower or that.’” What better time than now, in the glorious springtime, to consider this? Taking the experience of unity everywhere we go naturally allows the wellspring of love to bubble up. My students and teachers are nothing short of inspiring. When I can see my own reflection in each of them and love them equally, everyone can feel that sense of oneness. The fountainhead of bliss, eternal and infinite, is always waiting for us to simply acknowledge it and let it flow through us and all our relations. Play in the ocean and waterfalls, keep companionship with pets, enjoy the bounty from the garden – the connection felt within the whole community produces a rainbow fountain of joy. Yoga Sutra 1.36 states, “Visoka va jyotismati,” which refers to concentrating on the supreme, ever-blissful Light within. You Are Kumu
By Maribeth Theisen In Hawaii, a teacher is called a kumu, which is a wellspring or source. The term affords huge respect to the teacher, who is viewed as having limitless wisdom and skill. As I thought of the term ‘wellspring,’ I pondered its meaning. The dictionary defines a wellspring as: 1) the source of a spring or stream; fountainhead; 2) the source of continual or abundant supply; 3) an inexhaustible source or supply. A constant source that can never be depleted – now, that is exciting! Everyone is looking for unlimited sources – more money, happiness, love. And as soon as they think, “Eureka, I’ve found it!” it’s gone. An unexpected expense comes up or the relationship ends. This is the problem with perceiving your supply as limited. If the origin of abundance is your job, then you can only count on how much you will earn from the hours you worked last week. But what if you expand your vision to see that prosperity can come from everywhere? Maybe you receive an unexpected financial reward or you discover you’re due a refund. How would your thinking and behavior change if you truly believed you had an inexhaustible reservoir? Similarly, what if love came from avenues other than your partner? What if you saw it in the eyes and smiles of coworkers, friends and store clerks? What if you felt love flowing from the sun, sky and sea? It is believed that there is an intelligent, loving and abundant Unified Field, in which all creation exists; and that awareness of it initiates a process by which one can experience continuous and steady joy, peace, prosperity, etc. Once you connect to it, it wells up from within your own being. Take time to unite with this infinite supply – through meditation, yoga, prayer or ceremony. Then you will never look outside yourself for what you desire. Stinking Thinking Can Ruin Your Day By Paul O’Brien In this age of anxiety, multitasking, and myriad distractions, it’s easy to overindulge in too much thinking … even when you don’t want to. We dwell on the past, worry about the future, second-guess ourselves – sometimes endlessly. Against this epidemic of stinking thinking, meditation is a crucial skill for mental health – not to mention a good night’s sleep. Once I spent a couple years in ashrams and monasteries. When I came back to the States, I taught adult meditation classes and served as meditation minister at a New Thought church. There, I facilitated a how-to class and a 10-week survey course entitled “Styles of Meditation,” where we received a weekly presentation from purveyors of different styles of meditation – including Transcendental, Buddhist, Christian, electronically-assisted, Japanese Tea Ceremony and others. In my how-to class, I taught an ancient but simple mindfulnessof-breathing technique – a method that does not require any particular beliefs, visualizations of wrathful deities, or special rituals. We learned to do mindfulness exercises in line at the bank or during a traffic jam. One year we used the book The Three Minute Meditator as class text. As my teacher, Ayya Khema, used to say, meditation is just a matter
of being present. As long as you are grounded in an awareness of the present moment, you are meditating. Considering that our ego dwells on the future or past, a meditation experience – even a short one – is a sort of ‘vacation’ (as in vacating the ego). Fairly often, students would tell me “I just can’t meditate; no matter what I do, I can’t put a stop to the thoughts.” This is an understandable complaint, but based on a misunderstanding about the very nature of meditation. I would explain that thoughts almost never come to a halt. After all, they arise of their own accord even when you don’t want them! If so, how can the thoughts that arise be your thoughts? If you don’t want them around, if you did not invite them, but they arise in your mind anyway, what makes them yours? Thoughts arise uninvited and they always will. It is impossible to stop them from coming and that is not what meditation is really about. It’s about changing how we relate to thoughts that arise. Do we identify with them – as in “my thoughts?” Do we invest in them by thinking about them? Of course we do! The skill of meditation is not about shutting out thoughts or shutting down the mind. Rather, it’s about divesting ourselves of thoughts that arise when we need to get away from thinking. This is a practice of noticing the thoughts that arise and then letting them pass by, turning your attention to an object like your breathing or some mantra. It doesn’t really matter what object of concentration you use. I suspect that like me, you are fairly addicted to thinking. All the more reason we need to turn it off sometimes! As long as you remember the distinction between thoughts arising and thinking about them, anyone – even you – can let go of the ego’s urge to think about things when they pop up. Practice noticing thoughts arising and intervene by letting them go before you react, lest the ‘stinking thinking’ of regrets and worries ruins your ability to enjoy your life. Dying to Know: The Movie
By Mike Crall “Dying to Know” is a documentary film that tells the tale of the lifelong friendship and spiritual connection between Richard Alpert (Ram Dass) and Timothy Leary – two iconic, complex and controversial figures who helped shape the evolving social consciousness of an entire age. With interviews spanning 50 years, the viewer is invited on this journey to understand how two Harvard professors became counterculture icons. Gay Dillingham, the director, recounts that this film “started on a whim in 1995” when Timothy Leary found out that he was dying of cancer. The first person he called was Ram Dass. In this provocative film, the viewer is a fly on the wall, observing an intimate conversation between Leary and Ram Dass just months before Leary’s death. Ram Dass and Leary share their perspectives about death and dying, encouraging viewers to ponder questions about life and the biggest mystery of all – death. Narrated by Robert Redford, the film includes interviews with Dr. Andrew Weil, Huston Smith, Roshi Joan Halifax, Ralph Metzner, Joanna Harcourt-Smith, Lama Tsultrim Allione, John Perry Barlow, Peggy Hitchcock and Zach Leary. Dillingham says, “I’ve seen this film touch people of all ages from those that have no idea who these men are to those that knew them well to those that don’t care about them. For me this filmmaking journey has led me further down the path to ‘think for myself’ with ‘unconditional love’ and my hope is that it can do that for you.” She adds, “This film has been a labor of love since 1995. It feels so good to be ‘delivering this baby’ for the first time, publicly with Ram Dass.”

Pain Has A Beautiful, Priceless Purpose By Jenny Grace Shaw I often receive questions and comments about the need for pain. “Why me, Miss Jenny?” “What did I ever do to deserve this?” “When will the hurting stop?” While I can sincerely say that I would not ask God to inflict pain onto someone else, I can equally and faithfully express that I view pain as a gift. Pain has a purpose – a beautiful, priceless purpose. Rarely does a person grow from contentment or calm. Pain is an opportunity; it’s a real instigator for personal growth. In fact, an individual’s growth and evolution from a painful experience can also serve communal growth. In other words, just as negative energy spreads like wildfire, a person’s courage, strength and hope can also spread to others. Pain is a perfect messenger of the need for change. Pain is the universe’s way of saying “I love you so much that I am giving you this painful situation so you will be forced to get better.” The universe provides you with a unique, personal intervention based on your current lack of self-love, and the presence of ego confusion and self-destructive behaviors in your life. Pain takes a person to their knees. It strips them of their vices and unhealthy coping mannerisms; it sends them into shock. It then places certain people, places and things around them – gently, yet assertively – at strategically designated moments. Now, you may ask, “But how about when

pain keeps coming?” “What if the pain seemingly clings to me, despite all my efforts?” If pain is residing, it doesn’t mean your work is for nothing. And it doesn’t mean you failed or that you are forever deserving of pain. It simply means there are parts of your healing that need your further attention. I recommend taking another inventory of the self and situation. About what are you not being brutally honest? To whom or what are you still giving away your power? And as for ‘failing,’ I don’t believe in failure. Failure, if we need

to use that word, simply means stepping stones to success. Don’t be afraid of pain. Instead, ask yourself, “What is my pain trying to tell me?” “What am I willing to do now to grow through this gift of pain?” Then, the beloved icing on the cake… “When I find myself on the other side of this pain, what will I do to pay forward my courage, strength and hope?” Finally, I do not mean to sound as if we should all run out in search of pain. Nor should we cause pain upon someone else because we think they need to grow. That’s not our business. I am simply saying that when pain arrives, embrace it and don’t fight it. Listen to it with love, and don’t yell at it with criticism and punishment. Be open to its message and give yourself the opportunity to grow. The gifts being birthed are nothing to be feared; rather, they are blessed love symbols that you are alive and well. Wai: Sacred Waters
By Jeana Iwalani Naluai Ancient Hawaiians were masters in the art of listening to nature’s symphonic rhythms; watching the synchronistic patterns in the stars, the land and living organisms; and most importantly, understanding how all elements come together to support life. The most significant element necessary for our Hawaiian ancestors to have survived here for thousands of years was our relationship to fresh water, or wai. Even our word for wealth – waiwai – was measured by an honoring of this relationship. The natural watershed not only quenched the thirst of our predecessors, it also nourished our native forests and wildlife, fed our lo’i kalo (taro patches), and flowed to the sea carrying nutrients necessary to replenish our fish ponds and cultivate limu (seaweeds) for ocean stability. Hawaiians believe that mo’o, or lizard deities, are the keepers of fresh water. They maintain and protect the delicate balance of our water passages. A white mo’o goddess protected certain pools considered sacred to our ancestors. Two such pools of brackish water, situated side by side on our Maui coastline, are the pools of life and death. The pool of life is beaming with light, filled with abundance of mullet and rare opae (shrimp). Babies were birthed and cleansed in its sacred waters. A few feet away is the pool of death. This pool is as dark as night, with very little life forms within reflecting the heavens and forests of shimmering trees on its surface. This pool was a portal; those who reached the end of their life would take the leap into Po (“the realm of spirits”), where the aumakua (family guardians) awaited them. These rare pools are in danger of losing their fragile ecosystem, as water is being diverted and the springs feeding them no longer flow freely. We cannot fail to listen, watch, understand, respect and then take action towards preservation of our precious wai. If we do not begin now, we stand to lose the natural splendor, cultural value and spiritual significance they have provided for generations. Dissolving Negative Beliefs Brings Freedom

Have you ever heard the saying, ‘like attracts like?’ What if I told you that all the people you are interacting with are walk-on players in the movie called “Your Life?” For example, if you have always experienced pain and suffering in your intimate love relationships, you will continue to draw that experience to you over and over again. This is because your emotional pain and anguish around love is encoded within your subconscious, and it is influenced by your ancestors' belief systems contained within your own DNA. In all likelihood, your parents or grandparents experienced these types of relationships as well. Just because they stayed married for 40 or 50 years doesn’t mean they were happily in love. Their negative belief systems are like virus-filled programs in a computer and they are active in your DNA and within your thought patterns. These subconscious beliefs and programs continuously attract similar types of unsuspecting folks to play out specific roles in your life. Envision your subconscious mind is like a computer’s hard drive, which controls the ‘life’ of the computer. Similarly, your subconscious mind controls your life – good and bad. You can download tons of great software, but if the hard drive has a virus that’s affecting its performance, the new software will be defective or won’t run at all. Those negative programs are hard wired into your brain through electrochemical responses to traumas or intense events in your
life. These connections create your brain’s neuronet, and heavily influence your present and future reactions to all new events. This patterning ensures these negative experiences will continue to occur, regardless of how many workshops, seminars or ‘warrior weekends’ you have attended in an attempt to stop these uncomfortable behaviors and patterns. Do Animals Have Souls?
By Rich Ralston As a clairvoyant energy worker and healer, I use my psychic abilities to identify and communicate with the souls of the dead. Occasionally, while crossing over human souls, I encounter the soul of an animal that has not crossed over. The animal’s consciousness continues to exist after its physical death, and it can decide to remain in a dimension connected to humans. A woman named Jane came to me asking for help due to what she thought was a spirit attacking her legs. I discovered that Jane’s aunt, Mary, died in 2012; and her dog Whoopie (a lovely Shih Tzu lap dog) died a year prior to Mary’s death. Jane and Mary had had a family dispute, and when Whoopie died, its soul went to Jane instead of crossing over. In spirit form, Whoopie repeatedly scratched Jane’s ankles, thinking it was protecting Mary from Jane. This continued for two years, and Jane’s ankles became infected and needed medical treatment. She asked me to take care of the problem. I located Mary’s soul and asked her to bring Whoopie with her. I explained that she could cross over with her dog and choose another life to reincarnate with Whoopie. I also asked her deceased father’s soul to escort them to the other side. Mary was happy to see her father, and they readily entered the vortex to return to their soul group. I observed Whoopie following Mary, and just before he jumped into the vortex, he turned to me and barked twice as to say “thank you.” Afterwards, I received a call from Mary confirming that the scratching had stopped and her legs had begun to heal. Many of us now sign petitions regularly on issues close to our hearts. We write letters and call our elected officials so that they know we are paying attention. It’s crucial, and it’s working. A massive awakening of consciousness on the GMO issue is supporting progress in many states across the country. Labeling laws are expected to pass in many states this year as more citizens demand to know the truth about our food. A Moratorium Until They Can Be Proven Safe? The information about restricted use pesticides (RUPs) used in Maui County (to the left) is from a March, 2014 Monsanto report to Mayor Arakawa. Because they are highly toxic, RUPs require special application procedures. Because they are used at sites on Molokai and Maui, The Shaka Movement has launched a ballot initiative to impose a moratorium on the open field testing of GMOs along with chemical cocktails including these highly toxic pesticides. Monsanto has taken a first step in disclosing what they use. But how are they used? How often? With what other chemicals are they used? When are they used? Where are they used? How long do they persist in the environment? After being applied, can they blow in the wind? How far? Just how toxic are they? Why I Love To Channel
By Debbie Dehm About 12 years ago I became a channel for Quan Yin and other beings of light. At the time I had been attending a Spiritualist church where I practiced hands-on healing work. I had no big interest in becoming a medium because I didn’t want to talk with dead people. They can tell you what heaven is like and that they love you, and that is usually about it. I didn’t need any more convincing that heaven is real and that our soul goes on. Still, I wanted to speak to the ascended masters. I read a lot about them, but had never made contact with them before. One day a psychic friend told me there was a man trying to contact me from beyond. As I sat quietly, I was amazed to hear words in English with a French accent. The first person I channeled was Pierre Teilhard de Chardin – not an ascended master, but a respected philosopher of his time. I wrote down what he told me. The second person was Abraham Lincoln. When I channeled these men, I could feel their personalities and emotions. The next person I was blessed to channel was Quan Yin, the goddess of compassion. She shares her wisdom, answers questions, and imparts healing tones when I channel her. Sometimes she says things that are very surprising that I never would have thought of myself. She is the reason I love to channel and I feel so blessed that she is in my life. When her energy comes through me, I feel total peace. I feel loved unconditionally. Finding The Wellspring Within

Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer. ” - Rilke I was born Lisa Danielle Evans. For 45 years, I’ve clung to that name as a sense of identity and independence. Despite my practice of signing the last name of every man I’ve adored since junior high school, I kept my maiden name when I married. I was fiercely attached to who I was and the things my name has been associated with in my life up to this point. And what point am I at now? Chronologically, I am potentially halfway between birth and death. Spiritually, I am in the middle place of mystery and meeting my destiny. Experimentally, I realize I’m just getting started. There is much to learn, experience, know and live. When we’re willing to look deep and wide into who we are, our sense of self and the way in which we view the world can’t help but change. I believe there’s a difference between how we express ourselves and how the divine is expressed through us. Wellsprings are discovered when you open up rather than shut down. Wellsprings are born when you revel in new discoveries instead of insisting on the status quo. Wellsprings are sourced from the depths of what’s most divine in you – love. Wellsprings, once found, will transform you. As Rilke says, live everything. I am at that point where the answers I seek are no longer outside myself. By Courtney Hayes When I think of a wellspring, the first thing that comes to mind is ‘pure life force.’ What does this mean for us humans? Well (pun intended), I think it means finding our own inner peace and at the same time our drive for existence. I find that I have to juggle many different positive interests to keep my connection to this ‘force’ – satisfying body, mind, soul and spirit. But this takes work! And yes, at times you will find yourself on the end of searching for the wellspring. You may have to find this force again and again as life’s trials pop up, as they will sometimes set you back and pull you out of synch with your intuitive living and decision making. At these times we can remind ourselves that life itself is a meditation, and trust in the journey and remember that our essence is pure love. If we’re feeling disconnected, we can always remember how good we felt when we found this wellspring. We can encourage ourselves to get back on the bandwagon of love; to keep motion and our emotions in check with a plethora of habits and hobbies so that the waters of happiness continue to flow. For me this means making meaningful connections with family, friends, animals and all of Mother Nature; practicing yoga and other toning exercises daily; walking; jogging; reading; writing; listening to and playing music; frolicking on land; cleansing in any water source that Maui has blessed us with; singing; dancing; doing a job I’m proud of; painting; creating healthy meals; etc. This is what works for me. When you feel you have drifted to any extent from ‘finding the wellspring,’ simply decide to make the positive choices that you trust are best for your happiness and your journey through this amazing, loving and beautiful life.
By Barbara Ensign A wellspring is defined as: “the source of a spring or stream,” “an original and bountiful source of something,” “a source of continual or abundant supply.” Wellspring can apply to ideas and talents. Where do your ideas and creativity come from? What does your wellspring look like? Try looking within, which is where all the answers lie. What do you believe? Is your subconscious mind creating a life based on old beliefs? Is your subconscious believing and behaving in alignment with your conscious mind, or are they in conflict? Many of your old beliefs may no longer serve you, or match what you believe to be true. Some of your beliefs may even be someone else’s beliefs that were imposed on you when you were much younger, when you didn’t know you had a choice. Ultimately, whatever your subconscious mind believes is what it will act out. The conscious mind cannot be the director of your life until the subconscious is in agreement. You can change the script to work with your conscious intentions instead of those old, limiting, unconscious beliefs. Direct your subconscious mind to work with you in a positive way, to achieve your goals and create the life that you want. In the words of Jungian scholar Marie-Louise von Franz, “If a man devotes himself to the instructions of his own unconscious, it can bestow this gift {of renewal}, so that suddenly life, which has been stale and dull, turns into a rich unending inner adventure, full of creative possibilities.” Hypnosis is one of the simplest, most powerful ways to replace old beliefs with new, life affirming beliefs. A Passion For Reiki
By Shalandra Abbey My divine spark is Reiki Natural Healing. I am truly a Reiki aficionado. After almost 25 years, I still simply cannot get enough of it. After all, what could be better than filling your body with healing life force energy? My journey with Reiki has taken me to places few people get to experience. Hints To Release Trauma
By Rhonda Felix Having been a Heal Your Life teacher for some time, I have seen Louise Hay’s work transform lives, my own being one of them! What we find when we visit every area of our lives through her work is that the inner child runs our world if he or she has not come to terms with, or has not healed from, a time in life that left an emotional scar. This is why we do inner child work. Affirmations are not enough if feelings and thoughts are not in alignment; the feelings will ‘trump.’ Our emotional body holds trauma and wreaks havoc in our lives if a trauma has not been released. Trauma, which can take place in a moment or over the course of many years, brings belief systems into place. We can release trauma by looking at our reaction to a present circumstance and asking ourselves if we have ever felt like this before. The feelings we experience as adults are not new ones that we are experiencing for the first time, so we follow the feeling back as far as we can. Coming into awareness of the first time we experienced the feeling allows us to ‘do our healing work.’ Having someone you are comfortable with to support you in this work is crucial. Once you have the format in place, you can do it on your own. I truly believe that what transpired in our childhoods is fertilizer for our spiritual growth. Hints For Blissful Living
By Star Stone 1) Drink plenty of water. Rehydrate and renew upon waking with a large glass of purified water. Place a crystal quartz in your water, or stickers on it that say “Love,” to remind yourself how loved you are and that what you are taking in your body is love and nourishment. 2) Lather your skin with oils. Oils also have a sensual nature and by massaging organic oils like sesame, coconut, or cacao on your body, you are giving yourself sensual nourishment! Affirm to yourself as you rub yourself, “I am loved, I am healthy, I am enough.” 3) Holy Food. Bless your food by holding your hands over your meal and giving it your own energy. Silently thank the farmers, the chef, and Great Spirit. 4) Water Therapy. Soak in baths with roses, honey, and vanilla by candlelight. Plunge your body in cold water (then jump in hot waters if you can!). 5) Get Naked. Sleep naked, eat naked, swim naked, and lay in the sun naked. Be Kind To Yourself
By Laura Van Wagner I start each day by going within and making a connection with myself. I sit quietly in meditation, watching different emotions come up. Then I check: is that someone else’s emotion or feeling, or is it mine? If it’s someone else’s, it will easily release. If it’s mine, then I love and accept myself for what I’m feeling. Anger, grief and other difficult emotions need to be given the same space that we give feelings of joy and gratitude. Feelings are part of a normal human experience. When we accept our negative feelings and love the part of ourselves that is experiencing them, then our body relaxes and it is easier to move through those emotions. I was sitting in a circle and a woman came in very upset. She said she had been on the spiritual path for many years and had been working very hard on her spiritual growth. She was distraught because she was not feeling happy. She went on to express how disappointed she was with herself. Others in the room immediately jumped in to console her and give her advice. I realized that the frustration she was feeling was caused by not accepting the entire spectrum of her emotions as valid. She was punishing herself for not being perfect. She was resisting her full range of feelings, and judging and punishing herself for experiencing something other than happiness at every moment. I explained this to her and she immediately relaxed and was able to let it go. When you experience uncomfortable emotions, be kind to yourself. That makes you free to live and enjoy life. Reach For Your Goals
By Vanita O’Neil You may have heard of people using dream boards as a way to get what they want in life. If all I had to do was cut out pictures and paste them to a board so that those things would magically appear into my life, then why didn’t this work for me? I think this is the biggest misconception to creating dream boards. They do not magically produce a life that was not meant for you to have. Oftentimes, people create boards that are full of money, cars and houses; and absent of purpose, true intention and results. A dream board is a collage made up of anything that inspires you. It serves as a tool to help you visualize and achieve your goals. Some people believe that if you want ‘it’ bad enough, it will come to you. Unfortunately, this was not my experience with dream boards. No matter how much I cried and complained and hoped my situation would change, nothing happened. I have come to understand that you cannot just will something into your life by cutting out pictures and putting them on a board. The journey to achieving my dreams evolved during a time in my life when I needed a break from the monotony of life. I needed to know that this period in my life was just a moment in time and that things would change. After much prayer and self-reflection, I completed my first dream board. My board was a constant reminder of hope that began to unfold and reveal my dream life. Today, I create dream boards and share my faith with others as a professional career, staying true to my passions and sharing information that has helped me to reach my goals. Finding Your Path Of Joy
By Eliza Bassett A wellspring can be a personal point of connection to something greater than ourselves. Most people, as children, are shown the acceptable manner of connecting to this place, which is usually intangible. Depending on the intensity of the beliefs of the parents and teachers, this place can be real to children. Thus, we model our behavior to fit in. As we mature and experience life’s lessons, these indicated source points may not prove to be the right place from which to draw comfort and creativity. If we aren’t given any sort of instruction regarding interaction with a spiritual source point, then we may go down a path of pain, seeking release from that via selfmedication of many types. So, off we go, seeking emotional and/ or mental constructs to anchor our understanding of life. Perhaps we seek a place on the planet that resonates deeply in the body, feeding us that intangible bit we know we need. How many of us have stepped off a vehicle that has brought us somewhere new, and breathed in the joy of being ‘home?’ Some places and their teachings are united – India, Tibet, Japan, Israel, as well as various native cultures around the world. We are lucky to be able to travel to these places. And those unable to travel can read the writings of, or attend classes with, others who have gleaned lessons from these locations. Teachers from many spiritual paths are available through various media presently flowing on the planet. Yet, as many spiritual teachers indicate, we don’t need to go anywhere but within to find out what we need for our wholeness. All of the different paths I’ve explored and incorporated into my life fit into the container which shamanism provided. May we each find the path of joy that fills us deeply. Reliving The Power Of A Moment By Eve Hogan It has been well over a year since the flash flood that took The Sacred Garden’s original labyrinth away. The morning began like any other rainy upcountry morning. The Maliko Gulch river was flowing happily, if not aggressively, within its banks. For me, the seasonal river is much akin to the return of the humpback whales – it adds a special magic to the normal (although beautiful) surroundings. On this particular day, however, the normalcy quickly changed to intensity. The rain simply kept coming and coming until the stream threatened to overflow its banks. And that is precisely what it did. The river rose and completely flooded over the labyrinth. I thought for sure it was washed away forever, but I did not have time to concern myself with only that. My house, The Sacred Garden, my neighbors’ homes, and everything else within the river’s reach were all being threatened by the continuously rising water. Then, just like a tsunami, the water receded a bit and we did exactly what you aren’t supposed to do. Thinking the worst was over, we went to investigate the damage. I was relieved to see that the labyrinth was, for the most part, still intact. However, minutes after exploring the uprooted trees and washed clean canvas of the stream-front property, the second swell – much larger than the first – rushed down Maliko Gulch. Fortunately, we had returned to safety in the nick of time, but in a matter of a minute, the labyrinth was completely gone.
My first reaction was devastation and grief, not only for my own loss, but also for that of the thousands of people who journey to The Sacred Garden to walk the labyrinth. I also struggled with the time and money needed to rebuild it. Then, some anonymous friend on Facebook sent me a video clip of Buddhist monks creating beautiful sand mandalas. In the video the monks worked for days to create this magnificent work of
art; and then, the Dalai Lama himself scooped up the sand with his hands, destroying their creation. This is done as a tradition to remind us of the impermanence of all things and that suffering is caused by attachment. The Dalai Lama then walked to a river’s edge and threw the sand in the river so it could spread all over the world and offer blessings. In the instant of viewing this, I knew the labyrinth was my mandala and that it, too, had simply been scooped up and thrown into the river, sending love downstream. In the moment of that instant reframe, I was relieved of my suffering. Detachment is what sets us free. Then again through social media, I put out a call for help. The first donation came from Australia, then California, and Hawaii…and they kept on coming along with helping hands. Help came from all over the world to rebuild the replica of the 11-circuit, Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth, and to replace our rain and wind damaged roof. Now a slightly bigger, slightly stronger labyrinth is nestled in Maliko Gulch at The Sacred Garden, beside a mostly peaceful stream. ~ Wisdom From My Heart ~
By Salini Teri Apodaca I listened to my heart one day, and asked her what she was feeling. “Broken,” she replied, “and waiting for the healing to come.” “What can I do for you?” I asked her. “Love me. And make a pathway for love to come and go from inside me so I might feel the love around me and within you.” “But how do I do that?” I asked my heart. “You must surrender your fear of being hurt, lay down your guard, tear up your fences and let the energy flow in,” my heart answered. “But what if no one loves me and I stand alone, bare, naked and vulnerable?” “You are never alone,” spoke my heart. “I am always with you, loving you.” “But who are you?” I queried my heart. “I don’t really know you.” “And therein lies the problem. If you really let yourself know me, you would know that I am always loving you and creating love for you.” “Aren’t you just a muscle? A part of my body?” “No, I am your soul, your soul that is connected to the Universe. I bring you the energy of Spirit to sustain you, guide you, heal you, nurture you.” “What do you look like?” “Like the stars in the sky, the shimmering water in the river, the sand on the beach, the birds in the trees, the babe in your arms, and the Mother who holds you and loves you always.” “Why can’t I see you?” “Because you don’t love yourself.” “What can I do to change that?” “Sit still with me long, quiet and patiently. I will come to you then.
Tell me when you feel my presence.” I sat still in the meadow, under a tree, near a brook one day. I tried to find my heart, tried to feel her. Then I heard it…. “Chirp, chirp, chirp…….trickle, trickle…..sshhhhsshhh……” Soon, I stopped trying and I just sat. And I just listened. And I just felt. I just was…… Then, softly and sweetly, I began to feel…and then came the tears, rolling so slowly down my cheeks. Then I heard something. “Feel me now?” I felt my heart leap. The sound of a cricket chirping synchronized with my heartbeat. The babbling brook rippled in unison with my pulsing blood. The wind gently whistling past my ears matched my breath. And the setting sun warmed my skin all the way to my heart. Everything was in harmony. As I listened, relaxed and felt it all, underneath was a tiny sound. “…sshh...you.” I listened again. “I love you.” And then I cried……thank you. Thank you for loving me anyway when I could not love you back. Now I feel my love for you. My heart cried back. “Thank you, too. I need you just as much as you need me, for you are the vessel and I am the love. Together we are whole. Now we can go out in the world and really live, and share the love with all.” And that was the first day I loved. And I’ve been doing it ever since...
