Sugar Hill was a planning and phasing proposal for an art community in downtown Detroit. The overall scheme was to denote pathways, define edges, and create spatial distinctions through a series of vegetative, installation, and reclamation strategies. We also were proposing light projection and art installations to produce interest in the developing site. | a ll wor k c r ea t ed b y Mat t he w S t o l l , und e r d i r e c ti on of Meg S tud er a t S toss La nd sc a pe U r ba ni sm SUGAR HILL ARTS COMMUNITY . 5.30.2012 07 | m a t eri a l an al ys is I l l us t r at o r | current c ondi t i on | pr oposed i n ter ven ti on Photo s hop AVERY STREETSCAPE COMPETITION Rhino | Illustrator | Photoshop | dia g ra m of t relli s s t r uc t ur e as s e m b l y R h in o + Ph otosh op | conc ept ua l elev a t io n s t ud y R h in o + I l l us t r at o r MILLENIUM PLACE COMPETITION . 5.30.2012 09 CLIFTON LITERARY CENTER Revit | Illustrator | Photoshop | drawing | physical model | split sec tion pe r spe ct i ve Re vit , dr awi ng + Pho t o sho p | de ve lopm ent a l m od e l | con ceptua l colla ges h a n d + Ph otosh op | p arti s ke tche s The de s ign of t he Cli f t on L i t e r ar y C e nt e r b l ur s t he bound a r i es between ur ba n a nd na tur a l c ontext thr ough the dis inte gratio n and wrapping of form a nd pr og r a m . The house is designed for Kohyama Yasuhisa, a ceramic artist, and was particularly influenced by contemporary Japanese ceramics and its interest in the raw characteristics of natural materials and asymmetrical composition. The living and studio spaces are separated and rotated off axis, providing varying views of the surrounding landscape. | d esig n s ke tche s p e n + g raphite 15 TECTONIC DESIGN Rhino | Illustrator | Photoshop | digital fabrication | physical model | stre et elev a t i on R h in o , m o d e l + P h o t o s h op The plan of the College for Fashion and the Culinary Arts is created from 3 main planes that programmatically divide and organize the building’s layout. Where they intersect they begin to fragment, and create the major entry lobby for the school. Classrooms are plugged in along the major walls, with public facilities such as a restaurant and auditorium arranged in the tower rising from the crossing. | te ctoni c s ec t i ons R h in o + I l l us t r at o r | i n ten si fie d de tail Rhino + dig ital fabricatio n 17 SPATIAL CONSTRUCT Woodshop | final spat ial confi g ur at i o n | spa t i a l i t era t i ons 19 CREATIVE WORK | ‘A r t and A r chit e ct ur e ’ pe n sk e t ch | ‘ Cla ssi ca l Ga tew a y Desi gn ’ gr a ph ite The ha nd a nd the m i nd a r e the m ost impo rtant to ols that an archite ct po s s e s s e s , and c r a f tsm a nshi p a nd d eta i l s sti l l pl a y a vital ro le in mode rn de s ign.
