The Story of John Guy and the Cupids Settlement for Educating the Young to Adults The historical replication of Cupers Cove settlement is an example of how educators can bring stories to life where there is an emphasis on active rather than passive learning and engagement with historical content in new and innovative ways. Description: In 1610, John Guy led a ship of intrepid English settlers across the Atlantic to a sheltered inlet named Cupers Cove in what was then known as the New Founde Land. It was the first English settlement in what would become Canada. The land was as rugged as it was wild but John Guy and his fellow settlers made it their home. The community he founded is known today as Cupids, Newfoundland and Labrador. The oldest English-‐speaking settlement in Canada. (Cupids 400 Year Celebration. http://www.cupids400.com)
