Pioneers feature 31 lettermen in 2012

arietta College will have a wealth of experience returning to the gridiron for the 2012 campaign. The Pioneers return 31 lettermen, 13 on the offensive side of the ball and 18 on the defense. The Pioneers will look to utilize that experience and continue building a winning attitude under fifth year head coach Jeff Filkovski. The Pioneers return a total of 54 players who have worn the Navy Blue and White. The 31 lettermen feature 14 seniors, 11 juniors and six sophomores. Marietta also welcomes back six starters on offense and eight on the defensive side of the ball. Filkovski also returns his punter from 2011. The Marietta offense will call on its experienced backs and receivers to step up with the departure of quarterback Andrew Keller. Keller rewrote the record book during his time in the Navy Blue and White. Keller, for his career, was 484-871 for 5733 yards with 35 touchdowns, which is good for second place all-time in each category. Quarterbacks: The signal caller will be the primary position for the Pioneers after losing Andrew Keller to graduation. Seniors Tom Fulton and Willy Ervin are the most experienced candidates to take over the Pioneers’ offense. The Pioneers have nine newcomers to the team who also are listed as quarterbacks on the roster. Running Backs: The rushing attack for the Pioneers will feature the pair of three-year lettermen Quincy Bell and Tevin Dones. Dones rushed for 262 on 86 carries and scored one touchdown in his junior season. Dones ranked first on the team in net rushing yards. Bell saw action in all 10 games last season but was limited to just 14 carries. Wide Receivers: Leading receiver Kirby Harris returns for his junior season after grabbing 61 balls for 840 yards and six scores as a sophomore.
