Scandrett regional park Visitors to the Mahurangi East Peninsula should be sure to visit Scandrett Regional Park, on the southeastern side of Kawau Bay, about three kilometres past Algies Bay. The park is named after the Scandrett family who farmed on the land for more than 130 years and affords views of Kawau and the Hauraki Gulf. On site is a collection of farm buildings, as well as the original Scandrett Homestead built in 1884. Fishing is popular from the rock shelf below Mullet Point. Access is on foot along the beach and cliff base, and can be accessed at most times other than an hour either side of high tide. Sandspit is the stepping off point for Kawau Island and Mansion House, the stately home of Governor George Grey, which is currently receiving some much-needed maintenance.
