A SUPPLE ASSET SET-UP OR DEVELOPMENT Francois-Xavier Bautmans arrived in The Emirates six years ago as Director at the heart of one of the private local banks. Today he is an associate of the Office of Pierre & Placements, who, this year, celebrates ten years in existence for support and advice to expatriates. To create savings and develop them, âMadame Magazine â therefore asked Francois-Xavier Bautmans to give us some simple pieces of advice that are easy to put in place. Madame Magazine: With the lowering of interest rates on savings accounts, what are the alternatives to place liquid assets? François-Xavier BAUTMANS: With a payback at 1.75% on âAâ saving accounts except for some âsuper-saversâ offered by certain banks on-line, (*2) the first alternative is still life insurance in France which still benefits from a privileged fiscal status for non-residents. Pierre & Placements proposes to its clients so-called ânew-generationâ contracts that offer attractive returns with a permanent guarantee on the capital. The contract SĂ©rĂ©nipierre is an example (+4.15% net in 2012). With minimum very low amounts and free or programmed deposits, anyone is able to establish financial assets, at oneâs own pace. The second alternative is this time life insurance in Luxembourg, which offers today a maximum security of assets with a total absence of taxation if one is resident in The Emirates. The management of these contracts can be both very conservative, without risk, or more dynamic with a performance in the two-figures, if a slightly more risky approach is desired. MM: In the context of the crisis that Europe presently knows, where should one invest in the long term? FXB: If a longer timeline is in play, investments in emerging countries, in particular Asia, South America and Africa should be favoured; raw materials, water or again new energies.
