Lynch continues to invest BIG in new equipment! Lynch have continued their ongoing investment in new equipment from top names — Terex, Doosan and Merlo — ensuring their customers get the best quality service supported by the very latest modern equipment. In one of 2013’s biggest articulated truck deals in the UK, L-Lynch Plant Hire has purchased 12 Terex® TA300s from TDL Equipment as part of the company’s £12 million investment in new equipment. The trucks will be used by Lynch’s customers on mainly civil and tunneling projects. Merrill Lynch, Lynch’s Operations Director, says the strengthening of the plant fleet fits with the company’s

goal of becoming the number one plant hire service provider in the UK. “Many companies are not investing in their equipment right now, but we are taking completely the opposite approach. Our goal is to ‘Meet Hire Demands’ by providing the best service out there and you can only do that by providing your customers with top quality equipment and by being responsive. Everyone at Lynch knows

Lynch Plant Hire & HAULAGE — Meeting Hire Demands

Lynch adds ‘multi-role’ Roto MCSS to fleet The MCSS is the ultimate development of the Roto concept, originally introduced by Merlo in 1991. The MCSS digital control system, developed and produced in-house by Merlo, provides a highly sophisticated safety and monitoring system, designed to make the absolute most out of the lifting capabilities of the Roto, in total safety. The MCSS is very much a true multi-role vehicle, doing the jobs of forklift, lifting equipment and work platforms on site. It is the most sophisticated Roto configuration, with sliding, vertical outriggers and a slewing system with continuous rotation. Cab instruments are completely digital.

Lift height The four original MCSS models are based upon the same chassis, 145HP Deutz turbo engine and hydrostatic transmission. All models have hydropneumatic suspension and a 40 kph maximum travel speed. Four and five-section boom assemblies are used, keeping the travel length overall to a minimum, by comparison with competitive machines. Lift heights up to 26m are possible.

Stabilisers The four stabilisers are hydraulically actuated in pairs. Both the sideways extension and vertical displacement of the outriggers are independently controlled. A unique feature of the

MCSS system is that the overload and stability monitoring system is completely independent of the stabiliser position. This means that the Roto MCSS continues to work safely, even with stabilisers partially or asymmetrically extended, e.g. operating against a wall or in narrow roadways.

Wave goodbye to the Watford GPO… Say hello to the new Morrison superstore

From April 2012, all MCSS machine feature a single-button auto levelling system, making the job even easier!

Continuous slew system A unique centre joint, designed and built in-house, transfers electrical power, digital command signals, hydraulic fluid and even cab heating water from the undercarriage up into the turret. This is continuously slewing, so there are no mechanical locks (except a road transport locking pin).

Boom assembly Three, four and even five-section boom assemblies provide lift heights from 10-26m. Chain drive mechanisms reduce parasitic weight of the boom sections and contribute to the excellent working load capacities, even at full reach.

MCSS System The Merlin Continuous Slew Safety System (MCSS) is the secret behind the performance of the Roto MCSS. Instead of a modified ‘off the shelf’ crane system, Merlo have developed a uniquely capable system in-house.

Dunton Plant Ltd, based in Coleshill Birmingham, is undertaking the enabling works of the old Watford General Post Office. Lynch Plant is supporting Dunton, its exclusive supplier of plant and haulage. The Managing director of Dunton Plant Chris Rawlins commented: “Lynch Plant plays an invaluable role in supplying first class plant provision & haulage services, together with a fast and efficient backup when called upon, all of which are essential to meet our clients demands.” Each of the four outrigger legs contains a pressure transducer, which is constantly interrogated by the central processor unit (CPU). The CPU works out the stability of the Roto from those pressure measurements. It does not rely upon a preset load chart or preset attachments, like the other systems. For this reason, it does not need the outriggers to be completely extended, greatly extending the versatility of the Roto in actual use. The digital display screen gives all the information required by the driver, both in forklift or lifting modes. The driver is also able to preset limits for slew angle and lifting height, enabling him to concentrate on the work area.

Lynch Show Roundup

Lynch meets Stage IIIB hire demand with new £2M Doosan order As part of a successful Plantworx exhibition, Lynch have announced a new £2 million order with Doosan Construction Equipment Ltd. A major part of this order comprises of the new Doosan DX300LC-3, DX340LC-3 and DX380LC-3 Stage IIIB compliant large crawler excavators from 30 to 38 tonne, as well as smaller crawler and wheeled excavators including the new DX140LC-3 and DX160LC-3 Stage IIIB compliant crawler excavators recently launched by Doosan in the UK. Merrill Lynch, Operations Director at Lynch, said: “Our company slogan is ‘Meeting Hire Demands’ and with this latest order from Doosan, we are

focusing on meeting new requirements laid down by our customers for Stage IIIB machines. These are now being demanded for projects such as Crossrail as well as the legacy works after the 2012 Olympics, and it is this type of machine which will form the bulk of our investment (over £12 million) in the next 12 months to meet this need. “All the new machines are supplied to the exacting Lynch demolition and utility specification, offering safety features such as automatic dual-locking quick hitches, audible reverse alarms, reversing cameras and demolition cages as standard, at the same time as exceeding the high performance,

fuel efficiency and reliability standards required by our customers.” Available for hire via the Lynch National Hire Number 0845 400 0000 from the Lynch London ‘super depot’ in North London, the Lynch Midlands depot at Rushden in Northamptonshire and from various satellite depots around the country, the latest order follows hard on the heels of over £4 million worth of Doosan crawler and wheeled excavators supplied by the Doosan over the last two years. Every Lynch machine and attachment goes through an extensive pre-delivery inspection before it arrives on site, ensuring that when it starts to work it is in perfect condition. In order to extend the Lynch health and safety ethos onto every site a range of extras are available, such as safe-load indicators and height restrictors. This means that all machines are to the very highest health and safety standards. The same commitment to health and safety can be seen in the extra training that Lynch personnel undergo, covering environmental and sitespecific inductions as well as that for sector-specific training cards (National Grid, Rail, Thames Water, etc.) This is supported by accreditations to the Building Confidence Scheme (Achilles), FORS (Transport for London), 14001 (Environmental ISO), Constructing Better Health and other important schemes.

Lynch chooses Wacker Neuson 10 tonne wheeled excavators for South West operations expansion

Lynch shakes hands on deal for another 50 new machines to be secured with Meck Lock

At the Plantworx exhibition Lynch finalised an order for 10 tonne wheeled excavators from Wacker Neuson.

Security is a major issue for the plant hire industry. Recent statistics reveal that in the UK around £90 million worth of hire equipment is stolen with only 5% recovered.

Commenting on the deal, Lynch Operations Director Merrill Lynch said: “A couple of years ago we established a new depot at Bridgwater and we are currently building up the fleet of equipment in order to cope with a significant growth in our business in the South West.”

Therefore Lynch is always looking at the very best products on the market and continues to invest in security for its plant, especially with MLS and its Meck Lock System.

Lynch selected Wacker Neuson’s 9503 model to meet customer demands for the very latest machines with the highest possible levels of specification, performance and Merrill Lynch with Richard Harrison, reliability. Having used 8 tonne Wacker Neuson UK Managing Director wheeled excavators previously, Lynch has now decided to switch to the new 10 tonne versions as they provide a greater all-round capability. The 9503 model is powered by a Yanmar diesel engine developing 51.1 kW (69.5 hp) @ 2100 rpm and is capable of digging to a depth of nearly 4m. The machine offers a choice of 4-wheel or crab steering for maximum on-site manoeuvrability as well as front wheel steer only when travelling between jobs. Lynch added, “In line with our company policy of ‘Meeting Hire Demands’ we plan to significantly increase our fleet of Wacker Neuson rubber ducks over the coming months, which should help spearhead the company’s rapid expansion across SW England.”

A patented and proven anti-theft system sold worldwide it has Thatcham P2, P3 and H3 approval in the UK. The Meck Lock System stops the vehicle being driven away by isolating the hydraulic or pneumatic system – a simple and effective concept which Lynch is happy to invest in to ensure the security of its modern fleet.

Merrill Lynch shakes hands on the deal with Mike Ford, Managing Director of MLS

Lynch acquires 22 new machines from Finning Following an investment of £2 million in CAT equipment at the start of the year, Lynch finalised a new deal with Finning at Plantworx 2013, involving the acquisition of 22 new machines including six new CAT 432F Backhoe Loaders and four CAT D6N Dozers.

levels of handling and comfort, another factor in the decision to invest in four of the new Backhoe Loaders.

The initial Lynch investment of £2 million is part of a £12 million expansion programme to strengthen its fleet with more environmentally friendly machines. The stage IIIB compliant CAT machines supplied by Finning allows Lynch and its customers to have a bigger role in London’s Crossrail Project.

Commenting on the deal Merrill Lynch, Operations Director for Lynch, said: “The significant investment we have made in CAT machinery supplied by Finning is driven by the Lynch commitment to supply its customers with the best construction equipment on the market. We believe the deal with Finning at Plantworx is further evidence of this ethos and the feedback we have had from our operators is a testament to the quality of the CAT equipment.”

Lynch conducted extensive operator testing on the CAT 432F at one of its sites prior to investing in the machine. The feedback was extremely positive, with operators praising its superior

He added “Many of our customers are now focused on working on projects where stage IIIB emission standards are essential, such as the Crossrail Project in London and ongoing work at the

Olympic Park. We will now be able to supply them more readily with the best machines for these kinds of jobs, ultimately helping our clients to become more profitable.” The total deal agreed at Plantworx 2013 was for six CAT 432F Backhoe Loaders, four CAT D6N Dozers and 12 CAT 308E excavators, all equipped with Finsight machine monitoring system. Dermot O’Connor, Sales Manager from Finning said: “Having established a solid working relationship with Lynch, it is encouraging to see the positive impact the CAT machines have already had for its customers. The deal done at Plantworx is a further endorsement of the quality of CAT machines and the excellence of the service Finning is able to provide.”

which we know, from previous experience, we can rely on.” Having previously purchased six Generation 9 Terex trucks in 2011, Lynch have more than pleased with the TA300’s performance and reliability but, with such a large investment it was important to select the right machine to meet their customers’ requirements. He commented:

Lynch invests £4 million in Doosan Excavators Lynch Plant Hire Ltd has taken delivery of a wide range of new Doosan excavators which together are worth nearly £4 million from Berkshire-based Promac Solutions Ltd, the authorised Doosan dealer for South East England. This forms part of a £12 million purchase plan for machinery for 2013. The new Doosan machines are available for hire from the Lynch London ‘super depot’ in North London, the Lynch Midlands depot at Rushden in Northamptonshire and from various satellite depots around the country. Merrill Lynch, Operations Director at Lynch, said: “The Doosan range offers an excellent return on investment, meeting the high performance, fuel efficiency, reliability and safety standards required by Lynch and our customers. Added to the high standard specification of Doosan wheeled and crawler excavators, all the machines offer safety features such as automatic dual-locking quick hitches and many are fitted with audible reverse alarms and reversing cameras to further enhance safety. Coupled with the excellent aftersales service from Promac Solutions, the Doosan brand ticks all the boxes for us.” As part of the order placed with Promac Solutions, Lynch has chosen the Doosan DX300LC 30 tonne and DX380LC 38 tonne large crawler excavators, but the overall investment encompasses all areas of the Doosan wheeled and crawler excavator range covering weights from 3 to 38 tonne. The Doosan wheeled excavator range features prominently and includes standard configuration DX140W, DX160W, DX190W and DX210W excavators. Lynch has also purchased the articulated boom version of the DX190W wheeled excavator more commonly seen on the continent. The latter machine is a perfect illustration of the ‘Can Do’ attitude adopted throughout the Lynch business. Merrill Lynch added: “At Lynch, we will always go the extra yard to satisfy customers’ needs; overcoming factors such as access, slew, height and safety restrictions to come up with solutions that really get the job done for the contractor. We work closely with suppliers such as Promac and Doosan to procure products that make these solutions a reality. “The Doosan articulated boom DX190W wheeled excavator is a good example, where we purchased a machine to meet a special requirement from one of our rail customers. We have also had Doosan DX140LC 14 tonne excavators specially modified with diesel particulate filters to meet strict environmental restrictions for work in shafts and underground.”

“We were extremely pleased with the Terex trucks and the service we received from TDL Equipment so our inclination was to return to them. However, this is a huge investment and we wanted to make sure we were making the right choice for our customers’ profitability. After competitive analysis of several truck brands, we were certain that the TA300s and the offer from TDL Equipment could help us provide the best package for our customers in terms of reliability and value.”

The return on investment of the trucks for their customers was also big factor in the decision-making process for Lynch, who said: “It’s vital that our trucks perform well for our customers. Over the past year, we’ve been pleased to hear feedback that, since the trucks changed to Generation 9 and Tier 4i, many of them have seen an impressive fuel saving. We feel that, in meeting emission regulations, the Selective Catalytic Reduction system utilising Diesel Exhaust Fluid technology has proven to be a great solution for the trucks as this is the best technology for machines that typically work in low-duty cycles.’’ Lynch’s Terex trucks have worked on large-scale UK projects over the past few years, including the London 2012 Olympics and major Crossrail developments which we know, from previous experience, we can rely on.”

Lynch Plant South West are currently working with contractors such Galliford Try and Balfour Beatty on the M5 project. The SW operation is headed by Simon Gleed who was previously with Hewden Plant Hire in Bridgwater.

Lynch and Balfour Beatty ‘building bridges’ in Bridgwater Nearing completion of a £5 million contract for Hallam Land, Balfour Beatty can look back with pride on a year of intensive work on the A38 dual carriageway where with the help of Lynch it has been constructing new road facilities at Bridgwater, including a bridge over the main south west rail link to Birmingham as well as a new roundabout.

The work provides a new means of access to the Morrison distribution depot, now a familiar and very substantial landmark in the south west. The primary objective of the construction project was to ensure that with a lorry entering and leaving the depot every ninety seconds every day of the week throughout a full 24 hour operational period that there would be an uninterrupted flow with no logistical problems. John Rogers, Balfour Beatty Works Manager, comments: “The facility of

Lynch Plant already operating from a yard in Bridgwater prompted us to consider the many positives of working together. In the first instance Lynch offered an up to date range of machines fitted with the latest safest technology and provided handrails, zero tail swing ballast/counterweight and fully automatic quick hitch fitted machines all compliant with Balfour Beatty Zero Harm Standards.’’ John went on to add “It has been an added bonus to witness the skill of the Lynch operators who have had to navigate through stringent and demanding operating requirements, in particular working on drainage issues and the diversion of pipes and cables for water gas, electricity and other services. Lynch has helped us meet the strict date targets set by Hallam Land, Network Rail and Somerset County Council and has carried out work assignments on time during a difficult period with constant delays caused by bad weather.’’
