President’s Update

Chamber Lives Up to Tagline: Business in Motion 2011 has been a year of moving forward and keeping business in motion for the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce. This year the Chamber has launched a new website, Chamber Leads Groups, Chamber 101: Get Plugged In and a smartphone app. The Chamber staff is continually working to help member businesses, and Lee’s Summit as a whole, to thrive and prosper. On January 1, 2011, the new lschamber.com went live. The fresh, new, vibrant look allows for easy navigation and high visibility of Chamber members. Additional features of the site include a Chamber Events Calendar, Community Calendar of Events, membership information, health care directory, press room, general information about Lee’s Summit and much more. I invite all Lee’s Summit residents and our members, when looking for a product or service, to visit our website (or smartphone app) and select a Chamber member.

The Chamber is proud to offer two new programs to our members this year, Chamber 101: Get Plugged In and Chamber Leads Groups. Chamber 101 teaches our members (new and existing) how to get the most bang for their buck and how to put their business in motion by plugging into all the programs and services the Chamber has to offer. Our new Chamber Leads Groups serve as a credible and legitimate source to gain business leads and referrals. May 5, 2011, we held a party to launch our highly anticipated LS Chamber app. Our smartphone app is available as a free download for all iPhone and Android users. Other phones, such as Blackberry, can access the app by using the web address lschamber.mobi. Our app is not only useful for our members, but the community as a whole. For example, if you are looking for some weekend fun just click the app and

Email Archiving Email archiving is becoming more important as businesses continue to use email as its major form of correspondence.

and compliance officers can access historical emails in the archive quickly for litigation and compliance purposes.

Email’s popularity is impacting businesses in many ways. The large volume of emails sent daily make it difficult for storage and accessibility. These same end users struggle with email quotas and find themselves spending hours managing mailbox capacity. In addition, new laws and regulations require access to historical emails.

When looking at email archiving, there are two types of solutions. In-house and hosted solutions.

So what does email archiving do for you? It manages old email in its archive which reduces storage costs on the email server. It is easily accessible as regular email while allowing you to keep years of emails easily at your fingertips. Legal

In-house: Installed on a dedicated server in the same data center as the email server. The email archiving server will access the email server locally for data capture. The archived email can be searched as many times as needed and are customizable and available from multiple vendors to support. Hosted: This option is for customers who don’t wish to install their own solutions. For a monthly fee, a number of mailboxes can be archived off-site with no on-site setup required.

You can access archived emails via a web-based search application provided by the hosted service provider. Make sure you consult an IT professional before choosing a solution that works for you. By DJ Good, LK Communications Brought to you as a service of the Chamber’s Technology Committee
